Jesus says that this ONE particular thing could send you to hell...and most people worry that they won’t be able to avoid it.
Let me ask you, have you ever been confused and concerned by this passage:
Jesus says, “If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where ‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’” (Mark 9:43-48)
To most people, it sounds like Jesus is saying that if we don’t cut off our limbs and gouge out our eyes, we’re going to end up in hell. But is that REALLY what Jesus is saying? Is there actually more going on here that helps us to understand what Jesus TRULY wants us to watch out for, and how we can be sure to avoid it?

I believe I am truly saved! And if anyone believes and has a relationship with Jesus , and follows him will see the kingdom of Heaven, and will see god, don’t give up! Sometimes I get confused if I am going to Heaven, but I remember that Jesus died for me, and I love him, and want to follow his commandments. I have to trust god daily for everything!

1. Realize you are a sinner.
2. Realize the wages of sin is death and hell.
3. Realize that Jesus paid the wages of sin for us.
4. Confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, and call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth to save you.
The Bible Way To Heaven
1. We are all sinners.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
Romans 3 KJV
“10 As it is written, There is NONE righteous, no, NOT ONE:
23 For ALL have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”
2. The wages of sin is death and hell.
Romans 6:23 KJV
“For the WAGES of sin is DEATH; but the GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.”
Here, the Bible says the WAGES of sin is DEATH meaning HELL, the SECOND DEATH.
Revelation 20:14 KJV
“And DEATH and HELL were cast into the LAKE OF FIRE. This is the SECOND DEATH.”
3. Jesus paid the wages of sin for us.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV
“1 Moreover, brethren, I DECLARE UNTO YOU THE GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 BY WHICH also YE ARE SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

If you believe the gospel of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, tell God you believe them and say this simple prayer.

When we get saved, we receive the Holy Ghost, which is the same as the Holy Spirit!
Jesus breathed the Holy Ghost onto his disciples after they saw him risen from the dead, and they believed, this is the same as us! After we believe that Jesus rose from the dead, we receive the Holy Ghost.

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:”

Thank you Brandon, I was just skimming through youtube and saw your video and when I read the title I was part curious and mainly part terrified. I've had my ups and downs in my faith with The Lord. A lot of backsliding, something changed this last time for me for once after renouncing sin I believe The Holy Spirit opened my eyes. Now the desire for the old ways are gone the very thought of them makes me uneasy and sick. I surrendered myself my life to The Lord. Best way I can explain it is when the Holy Spirit was upon me, really made the verse "Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved" hit home. Now I'm on fire filled with Holy Spirit and my life is now solely on serving The Lord, our God is an awesome God. Praise the Son of God The Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. I'm happy The Spirit lead me to your channel, keep up the good work and let us keep fighting the good fight until the day we rejoice in the Kingdom with our Lord. In Christ's name we pray in. Amen.

your journey resonated with me as it was similar to mine, the day I finally stopped running and told Jesus I wanted Him to take over my life and wanted to serve Him forever with all my heart, things changed in that moment as never before in all the altar calls I went to, times in and out of church....I believe the difference, as in your experience was the Holy Spirit opened my eyes that it was a decision that would be now (at that time) or never. I was changed in an instant, no longer desiring anything to do with past life desires. Praise God! He is so merciful and full of Grace and pursues us till we say YES and mean it!

Brandon, thank you for addressing this chapter. Reading or hearing it read in the past, I never associated the child with the reason for cutting off body parts. And, when it was mentioned in a conversation regarding the Sermon on the Mount betweenJesus and Matthew in Season 2, Episode 7, it still wasn't clear. You made its meaning very clear. It is so gratifying to be able to turn to you for these questions.
If you need Matthew 5 you'll see how Jesus talks not only about cutting off body parts, but about breaking even one of the least of the commandments of the Law and the Prophets and teaching others to do the same. I agree with what Brandon says, but I believe it goes even further than that. When there are people in our spiritual house or family or congregation who are willfully sinning and causing others to do the same, it is our duty to cut them off before they lead innocent souls to literal hell through their deception. The church is also called the body of Christ. In Matthew 5, Jesus says, "for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell." We are all members of the body of Christ. And we do what we can to lead all in life, but when there are "cancerous" members who willfully sin and lead the weak astray, it is our duty to cut them off from the body of Christ. Paul advocates for the same thing in 1 Corinthians 5. It is our responsibility to protect those who are weaker in the faith from the who walk in rebellion. The willful sinner who misleads others must be expelled. Of course the leaders can and should keep contact with that person in the hope that they will repent. But they cannot be left to contaminate the innocent and vulnerable.

Yes! I always took this to mean : I am a sinner -and i must strive to be as much like jesus as i possibly can . However , the master knows we cannot be like him due to our carnal nature .
He is making a pointed remark to STRIVE as much as possible with all your might to resist sin - and renounce it .
Roughly translated to mean : It is better to be a sinner with as much sin /hacked off/ kicked away/ fled from and shielded your eyes from - than to embrace FULLY the total surrender to sin and the absolute blatant disregard. Of HIS principles -and therefore your yoke

I really like your take on this, Brandon, and agree wholeheartedly. It is vital to take context into consideration and cross references when interpreting passages like this, as well as asking the Holy Spirit for revelation. I have been doing just that regarding this exact passage for a while now. In a similar passage in Matthew 5, Jesus talks not only about cutting off body parts, but about those who break even one of the least of the commandments of the Law and the Prophets and teach others to do the same. I believe what Jesus is saying goes even further than getting our ego out of the way of what God is doing. In that same chapter of Matthew 5, Jesus directly says the righteousness of the Pharisees is not enough for salvation. He's effectively saying they are misleading their own congregations with their outward application of the Law, but their refusal to deal with the heart of sin. This passage is about the body of Christ, If a member of the body causes an innocent to sin then he or she is to be cut off until they repent so as not to infest the whole body with lies/confusion. If they repent then they are to be forgiven seven times seventy . God bless , I hope you hear this .
I understand what you are saying. The ones that were able to cast out devils had faith in Jesus and not in themselves. I understand what He meant about removing a body part, I have not lost that but I have come close to completely loosing my hearing and my eyesight is poor as well. Jesus made a good point about children because they may have not had much status then but in a way it still is that way in many places.

Fantastic presentation. This is how Catholics are taught to read the Bible. Context is everything. This is why so many protestant sects go so far astray. And many do go far astray, due to their insistence upon taking the Bible literally. This is a huge problem for them. Sadly, most of them are unteachable.

@@cornbreadatheist2137 I'm not condescending. I'm factual. Remember that context is very important. It's only been about 130 years or so, that more than a handful of people could read. They DID allow the Scriptures to be translated when there was a reason, like people could read it.

Back in the day, the majority of people were illiterate (there were no public schools where kids were required to attend)….the only ones who could read, were the rich and nobility, and they all had to learn Latin( church Latin) from the monks….Only when enough people became literate in the local languages did the church feel the need to translate the Bible, which was not an easy task, and took time…. Yes, it was easier for the priests just to tell the illiterate whatever they wanted, but that was never the official policy of the church itself!

If your hand touches someone or something that will make you sin. Like someone else wife or drugs, etc, touch not handle not.
If your feet take you places where you know you're going to sin. Like for me, it was the clubs, liquor stores, and some family and friends' houses.
We must shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. We must allow God to order our steps accordingly to his Gospel
Samething goes for our eyes what you're watching porn or lusting for the flesh or material possessions.
That's how I look at the scriptures. We must die to our fleshy desires and become obedient like little child. We're a new creature. What we would do we don't do. Amen!!

Good job Pastor Brandon, you do a proper job of reading the Bible in context. One can easily get confused by reading verse only. It’s important people studying the Bible know it wasn’t first written in that fashion. You also tie together the Old Testament nicely with Jesus’s words as he would do. After all he is the word and the word is Christ.
