This makes me sentimental. My dad, rest his soul, bought me one when I was 9, and I had a blast with it. He researched the rules, was so into it, and it made me really happy that he bought one for himself so he could battle with me. These toys were such a happy part of my childhood.

I had BDaman in 2004 and I thought it was so cool that the toys were designed to be more powerful by adding pieces that increased resistance… until I broke an hourglass

one of the things we did as kids with these was to literally try and blow out each other’s fingers. it turned into an endurance test more than anything and what we quickly found was that the cheap fake versions had faster speed in them. we did go crazy when the special marbles were introduced and pretended as if they made a difference
They actually did, it had less impact
I remember finding what were probably bootleg sets in a strange gift shop attached to a supermarket. A supermarket which oddly enough stocked Battle B-Daman. Though I recall that gift store sold yugioh packs for like $12 Canadian if I recall, probably enough of a ripoff that I never really got into Yugioh until the end of High School.
Yeah bootleg b damans had more powerful shots than Hasbro once ..
Actually,if you put a piece of paper or something into the core where the grip is supposed to be, it will be pretty powerful. though you might hurt your finger because of how tight it is

I'm not sure how it worked in the west, but here in southeast asia, we had tons of tournament support! When I was like 7 years old I'd join the almost weekly tournaments for battle b-daman! The cool thing was entrance was completely free, and there were limited edition b-daman to be given to those who'd make it to the podium! Was such a great experience growing up with those competitions, and even taking the championship myself a couple of times! Good times

Haha, holy cow, one of the fuzzy memories I have of Battle B-Daman lore is how the big magic cat dude invented a new, standardized build system for the little marble shooters that allowed for increased customization, and it turns out that's exactly the toy line that the show was advertising. To get the full experience you needed the previous gen Japanese toys. Amazing.
I actually grew up with B-Daman being my first ever 'anime' alongside Megaman NT Warrior, so I'm glad to see it's finally getting some coverage. It was such a weird premise but I loved it all the same. Especially getting to construct the B-Daman and also customize them if you had different ones.
As someone who was a kid when beyblade first dropped, I gotta say, building the sprue kits for ANY toy was an absolute highlight. sprues forever.
This series was almost as big as bakugan for me, and I was real sad when Crossfire didn't get very big, because it was the only series I actually GOT as a kid
I knew I wasn't crazy that early B-Daman is related to Bomberman. It felt strange looking at them why they look like the Bomberman characters and thought they were knockoff versions. Pretty cool video

Just for those who are interested, right now the b-daman franchise is not actually dead. Takara tomy is currently selling a similar product call bottle-man, in which instead of shooting marbles, they are shooting bottle caps instead 😂

Sounds pretty practical lol. Got a bunch of bottle caps at home, so I imagine it's way cheaper to sustain their ammo, not to mention how the bottles are less likely to roll away and disappear.
Think Im gonna get myself one of those.

I am not sure how connected the series is, but there is a similar series to B-Daman called Cap Revolution Bottleman in Japan. Each little launcher is themed after a different drink, such as cola and ramune, and shoot plastic bottle caps instead of marbles.
Think of it more of a transition to be more “eco friendly” while still maintaining the blasting style of gameplay
They are 9000% connected, they just changed the name because dama is ball or sphere and they weren’t shooting balls anymore, there even are recolors based on b-daman
I LOVED b-daman as a kid I so wish it would come back in the US. As a tip, you actually missed a few series. Battle B-Daman had a second season called Fire Spirits that as far as I know never got imported out of Japan, and between Battle and Crossfire there was actually another entire series called Crash B-Daman that was never imported, most likely because every B-Daman was designed to look like a gun (no joke, those bottle loaders were replaced with ones that looked like actual magazines, just upside down)
Actually Fire Spirits was Dubbed though they had different voice actors then Battle and stopped Dubbing During Winners which meant the lore of the Season and the truth about Aqulas was never revealed outside Japan

@@bigfan10-gaming79 actually if you look in the comments of that video the guy who uploaded it confirms that that’s actually the Singapore dub that they made because they have some English speakers there. Fire spirits was never released in the US unfortunately.
Crash b daman was released back in my country tho , but when it comes to toy releases we mostly got bootleg crash b damans ...
I also bought one when I was a kid , mine one was totally like a revolution...
I had great fun discovering and sampling the Battle D-Daman toys in South Korea localized by the toy company Sonokong, and then it was novelly surreal seeing them in America when I moved there.
If I’m guessing correctly, there’s going to be a part involving the transition of B-daman to Bottleman.
I didn't have MUCH time to talk about bottleman in the next script, but if folks like the B-Daman stuff I'll get around to Bottleman. It's a big enough topic for it's own video.

B-daman had soo much potential.
When i was a kid i used to have a set of Crossfire B-Damon and now I like model kits I probably would have enjoyed the first series better
The Bakugaiden anime was made when the Bakugaiden toyline was already at its 4th iteration and year.
There's an earlier version of the DHB system on the mech suits in Bakugaiden 2 (1996), hitting the target at the crotch of the mech suit would eject the pilot B-daman in a dramatic fashion. No customizable parts yet though.
No one else remembered these!! I remember they came out around the same time as that one chibi gundam show that I already loved and since they looked pretty similar I jumped on it
DHBs were my favorite thing to do back then with my neighbors. Next to Beyblade, this is one of the most interesting and fun toy-line I've ever come across as a kid. Seeing this video reminded me of childhood very much and I couldn't thank you enough for making me wish I was still a child and never grew up. Adult life is so much different and complicated 😅
I had to stop my self from crying when I saw the thumbnail, b-daman was my favorite as a kid, me and my sisters would each buy one and then take them apart and make our own b-daman, I wish I was a kid again.
Burst Ball Barrage!! Super B-Daman transition from bomberman being real characters to kid battling with toys make sense in the context that the anime was an adaptation from a manga published in Coro Coro Comics, a magazine for children where most of the mangas are tie ins for toys and videos games like Dash! Yonkuro, Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go!!, Beyblade.

I miss this so much, this the first ever toy line that I got crazy about growing up, this came before Bakugan so it snowballed from there. One of the best years for the toy industry in my opinion.
I was with the series at the very start of the US release, but what really deepened my interest in the toys was after seeing JP imports in a shop when on a trip in Hawaii. I got stuff like the awesome Cobalt Blaster and a bunch of accessories. I really wish the line had continued in the US. It also re-enforced why i liked stuff like the original run of Beyblade and Bdaman; the model building aspect.
Thank you for talking about this series, it’s so good and does not get as much appreciation as it deserves, I remember seeing the commercial and instantly begged my mom to go down to toys r us and my first one was dhb chrome zephyr after it was all put together it was so awesome

All I remember was watching crossfire and fireblast b-daman. As soon as you started showing battle b-daman, that re-unlocked a memory. I got the main b-daman from fireblast, unfortunately I didn’t put all the stickers on it.

almost every hand-me-down bin of Lego I interacted with, or bags of lego at Goodwill had either a full B-Daman or an arm of one mixed in with the random toa limbs and bricks, I remember getting one and like the naughty boy I was I took the marbles and used them in my Zamor launchers since they basically use the same launching mechanism.
So weird I recently been watching old unboxing and reviews from rollout reviews after years of them being gone. How convenient your video came out.

I was that boy who was horrified by the sprus (funny as today model kits are probably my biggest money sink). I remember being both shocked and confused by how in the anime (as far as I know) the figures were pretty much just bb guns shaped like robots rather than actual robots. Even today I find it to be a strange creative decision, why didn't they make the small robots be their own characters running around and causing mischief? Never would have guessed the series was connected to Bomberman though.
Wow, I get kinda big into Medarot/Medabots a while back and Jett makes a video on... B-Daman. I have vague memories of the second line and playing with a few as a kid (though, being a dumb kid I never really got the organized game aspect)! Anyway I saw Medabots briefly in there. I am simultaneously shocked and not at all surprised to learn it had a toy battling game, mostly because there was already a video game.
I actually played the medabots GBA game. Didn't know it actually had toys.
I loved these so much, freaken had a few of them and me and my brother use to play them with them so much just blasting marbles away

That aside I used to have 1 Battble B-Daman as a kid. A bunch of mates had 1 or more as well and they were just fun to mess around with.
A couple of years ago I found a few online listings for random B-Daman stuff on the cheap and I managed to rake up a small collection of both DHB and Crossfire.
Even bought a few brand new Crossfire's from Japan which I thought looked neat. They're just fun to fiddle with and are very cleverly designed.
B-Daman was one of my most beloved toys back when i was young, i only had one launcher and the bottle loader, but i spent days and nights shooting the 20-30 beads into a tablecloth with no reason, and for me, the best part, was to build the toy by myself, i mean, when i was a kid, all the toys (except for LEGO) they came pre built, just break open the box and that was it, go and play. B-Daman, added two of the functions i was craving so bad: The pew-pew and the DiY, so this little guy (a White knight with wings) pushed all the buttons at the same time. I used it until it broke due to continuous play

I had some of these as a kid and remember enjoying the show quite a bit. Specifically a vivid memory of a kid who designed a game type of B-Daman that needed to be hit 3 times instead of a single one.
You do know they reimagined B-Daman to shoot Bottle caps instead, right? It's called Cap Kakumei Bottleman

Jett is going to have to change this title when Spinmaster finally ends up admitting they fumbled Bakugan again.
Spinmaster was on the right track, but fumbled pretty hard on the card game in balancing. Now they're going down the "MOAR PLASTIC" route that ended Bakugan the first time.
I dont know if anyone did this, but i used to modify my battle Bdaman I put a piece of paper on the side of the marble holder hence the increased tension which equals to much stronger shooter so sometimes the triangle thing will be destroyed, just like the good old days of a full metal beyblade our Bdaman becomes a weapon.
I really wish these made a proper comeback. I think with the proper promotion they could've been as big as Beyblade or Bakugan for sure. The actual molds of the toys themselves are really well done and each one is so unique looking. The actual game itself, specifically the direct hit battle thing, is really simple but really fun for anyone to play.
I have 2 big Ziplock bags full of B-Daman parts and marbles. I had the playset with the puck and targets. I watched the anime on YTV. I even had the B-Daman video game for the Game Boy Advance. Needless to say, I was a big fan of B-Daman growing up.

I recently got back in collecting B-Daman and I was really surprised in how many people are still collecting these guys. I still got my origial Knight Cavalry I got way back 2005.

5 year old me learned how to build and play bdaman from my brother and cousins. Now im building gundam because i just love putting the plastics pieces together
Me and a buddy had our birthdays fairly close together. descided to save our birthday money one summer and blew almost all of it on a bunch of B-Daman and a bag of chips. Only played it for that one weekend and never touched it again. Don't regret it a thing.

@@JettKuso The franchise goes some wild places. Inculding a crossover with Wario on the Gameboy, to being a playable character in the shoot 'em up "Star Parodier", to even having a version of Pyramid Head and Solid Snake appear as guest characters in Super Bomberman R.
Sadly the franchise doesn't have many toys that I know of though so not the best fit for your channel, but I'd still recommend researching the it if you have time to wonder down a wacky rabbit hole.

I have some units and field setup for playing Direct Hit Battle at home, but since I work in another place, I cannot play it anymore, except when I get days off and go home.
I still tried to play it together with my cousins. It's really interesting.
I remember the local toy store here hosting a bdaman battle event just before it went out of trend. Also I realized that I've played bomberman as a kid and had those marble bdaman toys too, so little did I know that I was unintentionally following this franchise since its beginnings.
I remember back in 2010 ish times buying a B-Daman because of the anime. It was... interesting to say the least. I only had one and never bought any attachments. There was one time in a mall where they held a B daman... event(?) where you could compete with others with your B daman. It was fun... If I brought mine. That was the last time they held that event
I just hope in part 2 you also talk about crash b-daman and the new bottleman
I will never forget my last b-dman. It had a function in where I kid you not. You can load in a shotgun like shell which held 2 marbles and allowed you to launch both at once, with the shell needing to be ejected after use. Again. A shotgun like b-dman, where you used shells that needed to be ejected after use.

I played this when it originally came out. It was my first essentially gunpla. I now have an actual one and it was my lead into gundam
Me and a friend were the only ones who had B-damans in elementary school so during breaks we would go to like an underground storage room and play against each other with the rest of the boys from our class watching. But I was still too poor to get any of the shooting galleries or additional ball holders.
Ayy I loved B-Daman! Also loved that arc in Yugioh still have my Orichalcos Chaos duel disk! Got it sitting to the right of me as we speak lol. Thanks for the blast from the past inspired me to look around for some of the toys on ebay 😄

i can’t remember when i first encountered bdaman. i think it was the first round in north america, but i don’t remember it being a model kit. most distinctly i remember having one toy and thinking oh! this looks really cool! and having no idea what to do with it beyond making it go shooty.

when I was a kid, I remember I got a bomber man b Damian DVD box set when I was still in hong kong. really liked the series as a kid but soon moved to the uk and didnt recognize the b daman fight toys as the same thing. I never even realised until like 2014 when I first saw crossfire and got semi invested into it
