So, went out there together with Dez Fam and we put this into test vs normal game sounds and the OG Gnomefather's historical realistic gun sounds.

Hey, current updater of Gnomefather's here. Just wanted to say a big thanks for featuring sound mods on your channel again! The stock game sounds have definitely come a long way over the years, and I know that sound mods aren't for everyone, but at least for me, they've helped to get a lot more enjoyment out of the game -- both as a long-time user AND more recently in researching new guns/engines to add the mod (and yes, Gnomefather's is still being updated with new sounds, NOT just long-term maintenance!). If you've been wanting to change up your experience with WoT's atmosphere, I'd say give them a shot -- the right sound mod for you can make a tremendous difference!
By the way, question for Dez: I'm not sure if they're included in Aslain's pack, but another big aspect which both Gnomefather's and War Mod changes is engine sounds. Can't speak for War Mod (though, I know JohnTankPL has put in a lot of work on engines over there), but as far as Gnomefather's goes, this is a big part of what contributes to the filesize -- since taking on Gnomefather's mod from Zorgane, I've added over 100+ new engine sounds to the mod (and I do know that many of John's updates to War Mod have historically include many engines as well). Likewise, I know many who've chosen to use these mods for the changes to engine sounds alone -- and perhaps I may be a bit biased here (as a long-time user of Gnomefather's), but at least to me, they contribute just as much (if not more) to the change in atmosphere/feel of the game as the gun sounds. May I ask, is there any chance for engine sound mods to be covered in a similar manner at some point? (I could put together a list of some vehicles with notable modded engine sounds if it'd be of help + could contact John for a similar list from War Mod, etc.)
Regardless, thank you again for shining some light our way -- me/Zorgane (authors of the Gnomefather's revival), John (author of War Mod), PYmods (creator of the core mods which make sound mods feasible to maintain), and many others put a lot of work into these mods (as do you with your videos), so it is nice to see them get some time in the spotlight. Salut!

There were a few factors that lead to the in game gun sounds and I have to say that I agree, as wg has experimented with more realistic sounds over the years and when it comes down to it, they don't want guns to sound similar so you can tell who is firing where. This also means over distance it has to be consistent. Testing realistic sound mods with WOT devs versions and the modpacks, they just become annoying and even distracting. They have that cool novelty factor but that wears thin after a while. One of those factors is that louder does not equal better. Which is defo a problem with the higher caliber guns. I do like the trace sounds if they are accurate but sounded a bit like what you might hear in movies. I do like this though and like how you featured them. @FasterClassic has done some great work with that Zorgane have done great and I know a lot of people enjoy it. I don't use the gun sounds but I do find the engines to be so clutch I always use them. They need to have the big engine deisely valve noise high torque and turbo boosted sounds

Very nice! The War Mod really benefits the lower calibers, however I think I prefer the game sounds for the 150 mm plus.

Finely Dez! I was waiting for this kind video. As you sad, not new, 10 years old. Really good! I was missing some guns, like 75,85, 105, 110mm. But no worries. For me was the secong sound the best, the third had too much other sounds and backsounds.

I love the 240 sounds, but man War Mod got the echo across the map down. I always felt like it should be heard from the entire map to some extent even if it wasnt spotted just because of how powerful the 240 is

    nice one @DezGamez!
I watched it on TV and turned on volume a bit - don't ask neighbors if they liked it too LoL. Need to watch it again on PC with headphones.
What i missed a bit - and maybe the mod will support it - is a more detailed comparisson for different guns in a tier or on certain vehicles. As example, how does sound change when you use an tier5 VK30.01H (having lots and lots of different guns available) with long 5cm/L60, 7.5cm/L24, 7.5cm/L48, 7.5cm/L70 and 7.5/5.5cm conical gun .. and compare it maybe to 8.8cm/L56 on VK36.01H. One gun i missed especially: 152mm on KV-2!

I think from a competitive pov it would be a little bit confusing. Tracking enemy shooting and etc would be difficult. After getting used in a few years with the game sounds, it would be a nightmare to go to one of other sound mods. But if you play just as a tourist then it's fine

Well the sound of both gnomes father and war mod are really good and I personally think that both are quite accurate but both are a bit too much in a game where there are cannons fired left and right. I think there would be too much sound effects going on(especially with the eco of War mod) that it would either hurt your ears or it would just bug out

  • @marvinschonfelder9113

    * Historical Gundound mod: To be honest, gnomefathers mod, now kept alive by another one, accompanied my for 10 years and still sounds the most immersive while being a balance between loud fierce sound but not too much to get distracted for the ingame spot sounds and else.
Also is really sounding pretty realistic! At least for the older tanks (sadly I think the new ones which keeping it alive don't have access to the real sounds, like the 152MM which is pretty new. So I'd guess they're searching up the internet for sounds which could be similar sounding) - but just listen to the 88 gun of the Tiger 1: it's pretty much 1-1 like the real thing.
    * War Sound mod: If you want the "wartape" impact and gun sound, you go with War mod- this is bassically if you'd be standing right next to the the tank while it's shooting. At least the volume and impact sound like this.
If the gunsounds of the specific tanks sound actually 1-1 realistically I'd say it's not always the case.
I always said since mods existing, sometimes you don't want it to be "ultra realistic", but just immersive and feel it. If it's fitting and well made no one would deny it.
But as you noticed youself, you might put the vo.lume down for the gunsounds because you don't even hear the spoting sounds and else.
    __
Clearly said the standard gunsounds of WOT are just terrible... Besides being too silent on too less echoing for such large explosions and shells they sound dull and like "pop, the crisp can" opened. Even Warthunder and Armored Warefar doing a better job.
Also as you said already, hit sounds, flying sounds nearly muted on the original.
It may be specially made since it could distract from the gameplay itself- but I totally want a more immersive and dangerous sounding environment, letting me feeling the real danger.

  • @Kahleem-RAHTheAQUARIUS2001

YES WE NEED THESE SOUND MODS IN GAME RIGHT NOW😤😤 for me it's between the pz1c, Is7, T92 The NUKE was probably the best one ngl

  • @Sir_Freud

Is it me, or the War Mod Gun Sounds changes the paterns of gun flashes and smoke?
The original's and Gnomefather's flashes and smokes are to the side of the barrel most of the time (an infinity or 8 shape), where as they are mostly centered for War Mod.
Edit: I think it is the most visible with the Obj 703 V.2.
