BYD is very protective of their battery. Their BMS is set up to not allow the battery temp to go above 45 degree. And its for maximum battery longevity. Will be good for resell, once people know. BYD cars will have a long life battery. Tesla using the same BYD battery allow it to go 59 degrees. On a 18 degrees Melbourne night, I can got 152kw from 20% - 54%, Then between 55%-65% it goes down to 130kw. from 70 ~ 80% its chargers at 80kw. These are best charging conditions. If its a hot day, temp protect will come into play. However the Seal's 82kwh battery which is more than 25% more than model 3, gives you some much range. seldom I had to fast charge for 400 km day trips. (actually not once). Longer trips. I think 10 mins will give you an extra 150km. so 550km range will cover most trips.
That's good info, cheers for that
Agreed.

As an owner of BMWs and Mercedes (and former VWs) as well as some Japanese cars, BYD is actually a decent car. I've driven the Atto and its really a pretty damn interesting car to drive. I would highly suggest anyone who are looking for an EV to try it out as an alternative to other EVs on the market right now.
You make an excellent point with the Aussie V8s. I've had a Commodore SS for the past 8 years and I have a BYD Seal Performance on order. After a test drive of the Seal I was immediately sold on it, and a worthy replacement for the V8. Great review.
This car has the coolest design 😍 and a complete package.
For some reason it always looks cooler if you bring it side by side with another card.
For the prices, Seal is a steal.

And your name says I can trust you@@user-xl2xg3jv5r
BYD is the most sold EV brand in China.
It sells roughly more car than the next 5 EV companies' sells combined.
And also just from your name, it seems like I can trust you@@user-xl2xg3jv5r

Looser.
I have reported your comment.
Great looking, feature packed car. I know I’d pick this over a Model 3. I’m mean come on, it has karaoke 🎤 and stalks!
Agreed!
In person it looks even better
BYD been making and using LFP battery for a long time, they got a reason for not pushing the fast charging speed..imo that reason is to prolong the life of the battery..
If the Seal was available back in Aug 2022 when I bought my Atto3, 100% I would have forked out the extra $.
Atto is still a great car.

In NZ I believe the next model down, the Premium, with the same size battery but single motor, is the sweet spot. Apart from the extra motor and power the only things you lose from the Performance is electronic child locks and a heated steering wheel. You save $NZD11000 and gain 50km of range. I have test driven both the Performance and Premium.
The tow rating, according to the brochure is 750kg unbraked and 1500kg braked. Android Auto is wireless and I assume CarPlay is as well. 95% of my charging is at home, so peak DC charging rate is of lesser concern. I’d rather have the benefits of safety and longevity that LFP provides.
I believe this car is more a competitor for the Ioniq 6 and Polestar 2 than the Model 3 or offerings from BMW and Mercedes that you mentioned.
We agree. We pick up a Premium next week for a trip from Auckland to Christchurch.
I agree Premium (or Premier😂) is the sweet spot but I need to spend that difference on panels. Till then the Dynamic I feel for me will be a great intro to EVs and priced at upgraded Atto3 (shouldn't that be Otter keeping to ocean theme?) or Dolphin.

There you go driving past my house again and not even stopping to let me look! :-)
It’s back now, come check it out!
You are aware of the silver coating on the sunroof which as Tom(Ludicrous Feed) has shown dramatically reduces the heat into the cabin compared to other panoramic roofs. Isn't it a fantastic car though, sat it in Sydney at FCL/EE. I wanted to get a selfie with you but unfortunately every time I saw you were busy. :(
Sorry about that. Will be back next year!
That’s not the grey. It’s white. Also, I might be mistaken but did you say this was the performance model? I thought that model didn’t have the frunk due to the second motor.
Are you sure that's Shark Grey? looks exactly like my Arora White.
Any chance of a review of a Seal Dynamic? Thx.
We are trying the Premium next, and then will try for the dynamic.
does anyone else find the inconsistent bezel size and their rounded corners between the two screens as odd?
Not available in Canada unfortunately,,dum US gov sanctions controlin us 😢
Move to this end of the world!

Heatlight hook? Itwasnt nicked from porsche, cos porsche nicked it from the toyota supra!
Has seat position memory for two people, but you have to through the Screen to access it, which is a bit of a pain.
Agreed. It would be just a slight adaptation to make it a lot more ergonomic.

A shame the display behind the steering wheel isn't rounded to match the wheel a bit. Anyway, result: the steering wheel slightly obstructs the display...In the Seal U it's done better in my humble opinion: the display is rounded at the top corners AND integrated which looks cool and in balance. Ow, I've heard on other channels that the average consumption is quite high: some refer to 24 kWh/100 km...which is actually really high.
Screen... never felt it blocked anything. Efficiency... you'll only average 24 if driving for performance. Normal driving we rarely topped 20.

Not a problem in the Atto 3 and Dolphin. pity really
be blessed there is a display in the Seal whilst the competitor has none....
@@fatdoi003 which EV competitor without display are you referring to??
Much better than any Tesla

@@EVsBeyondI am planning to buy BYD Seal. I read an article from UK saying that when the car is passing rough surface road the driver can feel quite strong vibration on the steering wheel. Is that really the case, please kindly share your experience on this matter.
It's rubbish.
we didnt ask about your car.

Such a helpful and constructive comment, thank you!

NZ Price is too higher, 83k nzd for performance model, in China, this one costs 279k RMB, is about only 66K NZD. Entry Seal model is only about 40k NZD
