Over 50 years ago I saw a very large eel swimming just below the surface of the water at a place then called Hammerbank House. A large country house on the shores of Windermere the Eel appeared to be between 5 and 6ft long. As some Eels are known to live to a ripe old age, could this explain Bownessie

i also would love it to be a eels it fits if landlocked and if a male can't find a partner they can misss sexual maturity and keep growing but unfortunately, there is 1 huge problem with the eel hypotenuse, that is locomotion. Eels swim side to side(shark) every lake monster is reported to swim up and down(dolphin)

I think this is all silly. I've been to Windermere 4 times and each time thought that the lake is way too small to hide a 'monster' compared to loch ness and all these years later in 2006 (when I happened to be there on my second visit) why is it only now being sighted? Clearly just trying to profit from loch ness!

Exactly! Experts, the ones who actually have sense and honesty, have given ample and visual proof that these monster sightings are nothing more than floating debree and well-known animals out for a swim. People see what they want something to be instead of what is actually is.

I've never heard of this monster before even though I live only 30 miles south of it and go to the Lake District several times a year. The line of otters together theory at 30 minutes seems the most convincing and most likely IMHO. Possibly the otter at the front might be on look out and stick its head high out of the water. This would create a long silhouette with what might look like a tall head sticking up at the front.

I’m not saying I believe the sightings or that I don’t, but what’s silly is that the guy who owns one of the shops says that tourists are the only people who have experienced or seen the animal, but the swimmer owns a hotel and his coach lives there, too! Did he just happen to forget that? You can also get a feel for people by watching and listening to them as they talk about their experiences, and they appear to be well educated, professional people for the most part, and are obviously not cranks or people on the make, so I’d give them the benefit of the doubt, for sure. On the flips side is the scientist who’s been mapping the lake for so many years, with data stretching back several decades, showing nothing. Cool mystery!!

The true nature of the paranormal is such that materialistic science will never, never be able to grasp these anomalies. Lake monsters may not be what people think they are that's too simplistic. It's possible there's a spiritual and dimensional aspect potentiality attached to these sightings along with associated UFO sightings in this and many other lake and mountain areas worldwide.

Either people are using too many narcotics around The Globe are there is something in the Lake's and it supposed to be extinct but apparently not since each sighting of these Lake Monster's are said to exist.
My conclusion I've come away with Champy's/Nessie's all over The World, Strange Aquatic Plesio's plus Giant Eel's is that all 3 critters occupy the Lake's.
There not seeing one creature there seeing more than one and from Unsolved Mysteries too TV Series Sighting's the detailed descriptions haven't changed they are seeing these animal's I just don't think people are aware they're looking for 3 Marine Reptiles and Giant Eel's.
What hasn't been considered is the fact the Plesio's could be venomous like the Sea Snakes, these aquatic creatures are really bashful they like making appearances when all is quiet on the Lake save for 1 vessel or people back up on the Lake shore.
In seeking for those Giant Eel's search for Burrows up on The Land not too far from The Lake, it'll be a way up on The Bank, and fair warning too the scientist's the Burrows will blend into the environment.
Giant Eel's in Brazil and Peru are known for making Burrows not too far from the Lake's & River's that they swim within.
Like snakes or Sea Turtles they can slither ashore into their Burrows then tired of their Burrows slither back into The Lake or River. Again these are Giant Eels.

One more comment i laugh at marine biologist who think they know all in the lake, as a for instance a ten year study looking for green sturgeon and not one sighting, they were publishing the green sturgeon was extinct, and hilariousaly a guy fishing caught half a dozen of them in a afternoon only hundred yards from their research facility lol
Just like in many body waters, i have in ottawa river over 120 species yet science thinks only ninety, not until mid eighties did they even discovet largemouth bass in the river yet bass contests heald already for years lol. I have a phoro of a bowfin i caught there 70s, only three ever caught since 1800s. Daily piles new species found yearly and even in ponds to streams in major cities.
So do not be over skeptical there is fish to animals world wide yearly diacovered in waters often searched for ages by science.
