  • Have you ever wondered why there are 2 separate versions of NFS: Hot Pursuit 2? Yeah, so do I. It's so strange that this game had 2 different versions across 2 different developers: EA Seattle and Black Box. So for this episode, I'll be looking over both versions of Hot Pursuit 2 and try to determine why the PS2 version is better... er... try to determine which version is better.
I tried to be fair to the Seattle version. I really did.
Gameplay captured on PCSX2, Dolphin, and real PS2 hardware.
(I used patches and ReShade for the footage, so yes, I cheated. Point and laugh.)

CORRECTION: Upon playing the PS2 version more, I've found out that you can reset your car's position. It's bound to the Select button on the controller, but you can only use it if you're either going backwards or have a really bad collision.

In terms of nostalgia, the Seattle version. Now for extra facts:

There is a mod that limits you to just one Strike

I completely agree with everything you said, but the controls part I still think the PlayStation 2 version is better

I disagree that the car models look worse on the Seattle version. The HSV GTS looks much better on PC on PS2 it looks like garbage accuracy wise. The atmosphere on the tracks feels a bit better on the Seattle version. The Black Box version can sometimes be flat. Other than that i still prefer the black box one. I wonder what the Seattle version would have been like if they focused on one version instead as some things were cut due to time constraints like a dynamic replay mode and weather...
