    After driving around for a year we have noticed our ride quality had started to degrade. The weight of the conversion was taking its toll on the suspension. As it pans out it is very hard to upgrade a parabolic spring which is a commonly found in this style of cargo van.
    The best solution i found was to upgrade the stock suspension with helper springs and aftermarket permanent bump stops from SuperSprings International.
    Front Coil SumoSpring amzn.to/3c9afki
    Rear SumoSpring amzn.to/3RxuPLy
    Rear SuperSpring amzn.to/3RG5y1Q

    Hi I have RV mobile home that’s on a Ford Transit 350HD Chassis which I just got in January. I wasn’t aware of SuperSprings I just know about the sumo springs for front and rear. So I know I’m not overweight or sagging in the back and everything is pretty even in the RV. So next week having the Sumo Springs and a Hellwig Sway Bar added. So now I will monitor the back very closely and see if in the future I may need to add SuperSpring to my RV. Excellent video.

    Thanks for addressing this issue. Like you said it’s not talked about. I’m about to get some springs in my sprinter lwb this week so great timing in this episode to have a better understanding of how it works. I know when I built my van I focused on not going above the GVS but I should have focused more on keeping it as much under that as possible. I too am experiencing it more on drivers side as more weight that side even though I tried to distribute weight evenly. So my Xmas project is doing a van renovation to help reduce some weight. Cheers to a better ride ✌🏼

    This video was so needed I have been going crazy removed everything out of my van just put some plastic in to lighten it up and I am still dealing with issues and I really don't have that much.

    We just built out a 2023 Ford Transit AWD 250. It’s GVWR is 9070. We are about 700 lbs over that. This van rides nice but the leaf springs are slightly inverted and the bump stop is sitting (no gap but not compressed) on the axle. We are looking at the Stage 4 TOPO 2.0 System. Ever heard of it? How would you compare your kit to this kit? Price wise, big difference. I just wonder if I’m going overboard if I go with Van Compass’ TOPO 2.0 system. Thank you for this great video!!

    I've been wondering, wouldn't it be better to make the Assister-Spring tighter on the right side, by setting it to middle-position, instead of lowest position? Wouldn't that bring it perhaps closer from 845mm to the 885mm on the left side? Just wondering why you haven't decided to do that? Thank you so much for the explanation!

    • @SALTYVANVENTURES
      @SALTYVANVENTURES  Před 14 dny

      Interesting. I haven't looked into that option, although I suppose this would only solve the issue of the van swaying around corners more due to the weight of the conversion. This might be an option for some people if they are experiencing that, but with this Supersprings and Sumosprings system, it gave us back the ride height that we lost, a smoother more comfortable ride, as well as solving the sway which seemed like the best solution for us.

    I think changing original ford leaf spring to new one will gives even better result. The one you have looks tired and out of performance.

      Possibly but I still don't think it would have been the end all fix. The springs would have eventually gotten tired too. I think this super springs setup is just what we needed.

      I mean people, like us, who live in a van full time want it to feel like a home. Your own little place where you feel comfortable and you decorate the way you like which effects so many feeling and moods. Also sometimes you can only work with materials that are available to you. Ideally you would install thin, lightweight materials but three can either be expensive or not available.

      Shocks aren’t going to lift the van back up to factory height. That’s not what they are designed for. We needed to upgrade the springs fist and foremost

    Good video, and good that you compared like with like which a lot of people don't properly do. Have you seen this video about a sprinter that cracked its chassis rails with a similar setup? czcams.com/video/10zH1UtkiQ4/video.html&ab_channel=FreelyRoaming . The chassis in a unibody van isnt designed to take constant loading at the bump stop mounting point and could lead to cracking, especially on gravel roads. I'd look into getting some U channels folded from 3mm steel to spread the load of the bump stop over maybe half the length of the spring.

    • @SALTYVANVENTURES
      @SALTYVANVENTURES  Před rokem

      Oh wow i just watched it. Yes that is a big problem with the airbag solution. That is why our first and foremost priority was to upgrade the steel springs to lift the chassis back to factory. This then takes a monstrous load off chassis around the bump stop. The sumo spring then does the secondary role of additional support while on the rougher road.

    I don’t think you understand a bump stop is not part of your suspension like you’re thinking the suspension is your spring and your shocks the bump stop is there just to keep from bottoming out your axle against your frame the two components that are important on your suspension are the shock and your spring

    • @sebastianfairfax2058
      @sebastianfairfax2058 Před rokem

      Agreed. The suspension upgrade is necessary but seriously insufficient.

    • @SALTYVANVENTURES
      @SALTYVANVENTURES  Před rokem

      Yes and no. Yes a bump stop isn’t part of the primary suspension however in these van they aren’t the standard hard rubber bump stops that resemble a rubber door stopper. They are a marshmallow like compressible rubber and although they are defiantly not meant to be ridden on them permanently, they do act as some sort of compression suspension when loaded heavy or on roughy roads where you could bottom out.
