- In this tutorial i show all the steps to sample a sound from a VST instrument and how to import those samples in your wavestate and use those user samples in the software editor.
For this tutorial i use SampleRobot 6 to create the samples, but if you don't have samplerobot then you can also sample 1 note per octave yourself in a DAW of the vst you want to use. Just export all those single notes as seperate wav files and then import those single note wav files in the korg wave editor and set the looppoints over there.
If you have samplerobot 6 then the very easy process of sampling a sound in a vst is explained in detail in this tutorial.

Had to watch it 3 times to understand that SampleRobot saves the Loop information in the Wav File for the WaveState. Thanks a lot for this video. I also work with SR sometimes but did not realize this fact. Keep up the great work.
@Maik Schott You are a Wavestate architect yourself

I’m still learning the Wavestate and there’s a lot to take in but your tutorial here was very helpful! I’m pleased I chose the Wavestate now as I’ve confirmed it’s almost the only synth you need (almost! We all need lots of synths! 🤣) thanks!🙏
Wow, brilliant sound you made!!!
I recently got a wavestate and was told to check out sample robot. Now heres the perfect video showing me how to use both. Appreciate you making this video. Well done!
Wat een geweldige tutorials....en ook al meteen de nieuwe software erin betrokken....Excellent done....!!
I've been trawling YT and observing the variety of ways people are using this organic sounding compositional tool, because that's what it is. It takes skilled people such as yourself to point us in the right direction. The more of these type of clips I watch and listen to, the more desirable and useful piece of kit. I really want to have one ... It's just a matter of when not if ... It pushes all my 'buttons' ..
Thank you Qui your tutorials are always really helpful
Brilliant clear tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
u saved my hours now I can really make my own soundbank thank u so much
Thanks for the heads up..!!👍👍👍... Greetings from Orange California..👋
Qui. Thanks so so much. Very good Tutorial!
Very helpful ! thank you very much
WOW! Very nice, thank you for sharing :)
Beautiful ambient - makes me think I could actually do this now,
Great Qui, thank you👍🏼
Very well tutored 👌👌
Thank you dear
Super helpful ! Thank you
Vangelis would have turned cartwheels with the inspiration he would have gotten from using the Wavestate. Great sounds you manage to squeeze out of it.
He actually owned a Wavestate, JM Jarre have one as well, tells a lot about this incredible synth
23.16 mins.... i could hear the intro to Star Trek (the series), until a lower key was used... subbed, as i like the way you take your time to explain things, instead of waffling on. Nice tut'.
Great video. I have Sample Robot, but only the basic version. Time for me to upgrade! The Wavestate is truly an awesome machine. Can't wait to create my own sounds. And I can't wait for your next Wavestate sound bank.
you can do the same with the basic version of sample robot, the only thing you are missing is the vst host, but you can easely do it differently. Install LoopBe (it's free on windows) which add a virtual midi port on your computer. Then open your daw, select the vst of your choice and set the midi input to the virtual midi channel you've installed. Now open samplerobot, in the project wizard set the midi output to your virtual midi channel and the audio input to your audio return channel of your audio card. Then proceed as you normally would do when you sample your hardware synths.
@@quirobinez Thanks for that. Since I'm already used to Sample Robot, it's easier for me to upgrade.
@@quirobinez Thanks. I’ll look into LoopBe. By the way, did you have any issues running the new editor or sample builder on Windows 10? My Wavestate doesn’t show up. But it works fine on Apple.
@@aristotlekumpis7095 no issues at all, i just followed the windows 10 installation guide to install the NCM driver and it worked right away
@@quirobinez Thanks. I got it now.
Great...Thanks!!
Obviously subbed on this clip alone.
Thank you
Thanks for the video. After I hit send bank, I can not find the new wavetable on either the modwave itself, or even the editor librarian. Would you happen to know why?
on the modwave, you can select your own wave files when you set an oscillator to Samples, then in the user bank you can find your own samples. If you want to have a wavetable, then you have to convert one sample to a wavetable and import that as a wavetable in the modwave. There are 2 tutorials on my youtube channel that explains that complete process of how to do that
@@quirobinez You're the best. I simply did not see the sample button on the osc section. That was all I needed. Thanks!
Does the sample always on key E ? I observe that after i sample the velocity seems to be monotone like its not velocity sensitive. Do i need to sample random velocity to get a real feel of the instrument
Hi hope you’re doing well
Is SR better than logic s autosampler?
Great video -is this the way to load samples into wavestate native or can it bedone directly from the plug-in?
you need the korg sample wave editor to load the samples in to the wavestate.
@@quirobinez thank you
QUESTION, about the software: The tooltips pop up and are unreadable (I assume it might be a language setting), any idea how to change that?
Can the wavestate be used to play a wave file in loop?
Like suppose if I download a audio track from youtube and crop it for 10 seconds,so can this 10 sec .mp3/.wav file be played using Korg wavestate ?
I do this but for some reason my sample banks are not staying in the synth after I import them. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
when you upload new samples to your wavestate then the old ones will automatically be removed from your wavestate. To avoid this, just enter ALL the samples in one sample bank and upload that one bank. See it as if you have access to one disk in the wavestate that you can upload to it. So just make one big bank and upload that one, then the samples will stay in the wavestate.
@@quirobinez ahh ok that makes sense. It was only showing my most recent uploads because I thought there were separate banks. I did one big one like you said and now I’m good thank you!
I notice the sample builder is only available for Windows PC's what would you use for a MACBook?
Hi great video. As you have experience with this, can I use this sample robot software to sample waveforms from my Roland jv1080. I have some expansions and want to put the raw waves into the wavestate so I can take the wavestate on the road (as it’s newer than the jv and easily replaceable) but I wondered if I could sample my jv1080 like this to filter etc in the wavestate thank you!
yes, you can sample external hardware too ( i do that too), the best way is to reprogram the sounds with the wavestate filters, so when you sample your hardware use an ADSR with zero attack and set all cutoff filters open.
@@quirobinez you read my mind that was my next question! thanks a lot have you done this with the jv specifically if so how do you like it and was it worth the hassle? I managed to get my original don solaris patches converted to the JV1080 cloud so i may sample from there if that's quicker :)
@@quirobinez sorry last question, how many notes would you recommend to sample per patch for bass pads etc? I'm aware we are limited to 4gb and wonder how much i can squeeze out
@@gullyman777 Hi. Did you do this? I am needing the same. I want to take the Wavestate out to gigs, but need my jv1010/xp80 sounds and some organs and vocals from the expansions. Cheers.
How do you have 1 terrabyte of sample space for bank storage size is there a mod that I don’t know about?
Hi 😃 please can I ask you which version of Sample Robot will I need to replicate exactly what you did here? Is it the Pro, Multi or Korg Wave versions? If I’m sampling from vsts including kontakt choir libraries etc -> and then into the Wavestate... any help of know which of the three versions to buy would be greatly appreciated... thank you in advance for your help. 😃🙏🏻
i use the sample robot pro version, because that one can load VST's directly in to sample robot.
@@quirobinez thank you for the reply... so it is only the pro version that lets you sample vsts then?
@@rickhopkinson yes, directly from vst without a daw then you need the pro version.
But with the cheaper version you can also record any audio that you route into it. The way that works is that you load your vst in your daw, then use a virtual midi port to send the midi notes to and then record the vst audio via your audio return channel of your audiocard (if your audio card supports it).
@@quirobinez ok thank you very much 😃👍
Hi :) Can I import sounds from the software verion into my hardware wavestate? Thank you
absolutely, but the samples should be loaded in the hardware wavestate too if you want to use sounds based on your own samples.
Will an i5 11th gen be able to run this plugin ?
I have a question. how to delete user multisample from wavestate? I tried SHIFT + WRITE and then with arrows to DELETE, but can't find user multisample
you can only delete user samples through the software samplebuilder and then sent that bank again to your wavestate
can I use single samples instead of multi samples like you did
sure, no problem
Great Tutorial But......SampleRobot 6 Pro is 295$, would like to know about something that doesn't cost as much as a synth but gets good results.
it seems that the free akai mpc beats software is also capable of sampling sounds, maybe that's a solution for you? Or just manually record the 7 E notes in your daw and set the loop points manually in the korg sample software. It's not hard to do, just a little bit more work. But as i understood from others (i don't use the mpc software myself), the akai mpc beats software can do that sampling for you.
I think that Renoise also has the plugin render functionality
One multi sample per octave is enough?
it depends on your sound, but in most cases it's enough for the wavestate because you are creating your source material to work with, you don't use the wavestate as a sampler, but you are creating your own source material, so for these kind of things one sample per octave is more then enough
@@quirobinez Thanks! I have a whole set of Virus multi samples I am going to import!
@@quirobinez What if I have just some single shot sound effects samples? I'd like to just load them in so they play once in a linear fashion. Kind of like the old Casio SK-1. It just maps a sample to the keyboard that plays once.
@@ColonelSandersFinger you can do this, just load in the samples and assign them to the key zones you want to play them to (can also be single notes is you want)
At around 16 minutes, aren't you suppose to also set the note range for each original sample? It seems that the ranges are playing one octave above the original sampled note. ... I do like the patch you created though, it sounds very Vangelis like.
yes, i've modified this the next day after recording the video but indeed the keyranges should also be changed
@@quirobinez Have you had any problems uploading a bank to the synth but none of the performances actually appearing on the synth? It was all working fine to begin with but now none of the sounds I send across show up even after rebooting the synth. Seems like there are quite a few bugs in this update but the potential is great.
