    It’s only when I go to a jam that I realize how many people just set it and forget. No swapping pickup positions, no adjusting guitar volume and tone or picking position, no damping. Just blasting it. Many people think nuance is for the drummer only, yet with a room of guitarists no one will turn down, it becomes an arms race. Theres so much to unlock in your guitar by just turning down, never mind switching pedals! It really defines a good player if they can also adjust their level on the fly, like swapping between rhythm and lead while trading solos or playing with a singer. Basic stuff people!!!

      Very good point. Someone commented recently that they set their amp up for the Neck position first so they can then have more power when hitting the bridge pickup. I thought that was really interesting.-Lee

      @@gibson ya that makes sense, especially if you adjust the bridge pickup height so there’s a volume difference. Oftentimes swapping to the bridge mid solo really gets things cooking, especially if you have a few bars to build things up with!

      A lot of players might as well just have an “on/off” switch rather than a volume knob. Never mind tone knobs!

    One of my favorite Bonamassa quotes is when he pointed to the control knobs on a Les Paul and said, "These are on here for a reason."
    My other favorite is when he was holding a Fender Strat and said, "These don't have to be taken apart."

      @@gibson hahaha...I'm looking for one more Gibson...an ES-339 Figured, within the next 12 months. Any new colors on the way for those? I love the Cobalt Burst Gibson Les Paul Modern Figured AAA...but would rather have the AAA figured color on an ES-339. And I don't want to have to order a custom shop guitar to do it. I can buy more guitars when I buy production guitars....any chance you're going to try that color?

      When it comes to vintage he likes them as factory as possible. Somewhere there is an interview where he talks about being offered greeny about a year before kirk bought it. And he basically says as vintage guitar greeny isn't worth more 100k because it is way too modified. The value is in it's history, but he doesn't collect band memorabilia.

    • @Bourgeault
      @Bourgeault Před 4 měsíci

    People will say it is stupid for Joe to talk about this but then people will also go buy a Woman Tone pedal when Clapton himself very clearly explains the woman tone is just a manipulation of the tone knob and pickup selector switch

    It's unfortunate that this approach has to be explained. Everyone runs their volume and tone dimed and then they complain about their tone. I'm constantly on my tone knob when I get play, next the volume, and last the selector switch.

    Years ago I bought a Ibanez glued neck Gibson scale guitar with same two pickup, 4 controls 2 way switch and I'm a fender guy so that was new to me.
    I don't know what I did with the controls but I had it in the middle position with something dialed back and I got the most incredible overdriven lead tone I ever heard.
    Then had to move, and had to much stuff sold guitars and have no idea how I got that sound anymore.
