      The old guys are so much tighter with their timing and accuracy. Back then studio time cost a lot of money and you were very limited on time so there wasn't much room for error. Nowadays anyone can make a good sounding mix from home so you can mess up as much as you want without spending anything

    How tf do they play so goddamn fast

      So I'm going to respond as a 20+ year underground metal/thrash musician with the assumption that you're seriously asking. The fastest way to get this fast is *proper* practice. You get a metronome which is a device that clicks in time and you learn drills/technique excercises and/or riffs/songs by finding the speed where you can play it a certain number of times without making any mistakes (my personal preference is around 15 times) while using correct technique.
      You raise the BPM until you find the speed where you make a mistake then you lower it slightly to a BPM where you don't make that mistake (or any for that matter) and spend a decided amount of time (for me it's usually at least an hour) repetitively practicing that piece. If you make a mistake you need to lower the BPM. It's better to not make mistakes and not use bad technique than it is to rush and learn something improper.
      Teach yourself mistakes at slow speed and you'll make them at high speed because you didn't correct them. Some people say practice makes perfect but I was always taught the saying should be practice makes permanent. If you practice wrong things you'll make wrong things permanent in your muscle memory. It's a bitch to try and re teach your hands things they think they already know how to do correctly.
      After your set time you raise it again until you find the new BPM you make mistakes/have bad technique at. Over time you should notice it becoming easier to play things at speeds you previously struggled at. That's what's worked for me with essentially anything I wanted to learn musically.
      Teachers can help you figure out proper technique but there really isn't any substitute for the time you have to put in. Some people get there just by jamming so I've been told but this is what I do and what I have found works the best and is fastest. So the TLDR answer is a lot of work done the right way. Hope this answers your question to some degree of satisfaction.

    • @jackcoleman1784
      @jackcoleman1784 Před rokem +2

      @@chrisdubay02 Then don't read it? The very first sentence stated my intent. I love metal, want more people to play it, and playing fast is a frustrating hurdle for a lot of people that don't know how to get over it. Plus I'm a good writer so that shit only took me like a minute or two to write lol.
