    This show isn’t a bio musical but a great romantic comedy using 23 of Huey’s songs to tell the story. According to Show Score, 95% of those who, like me, have seen it in previews give it a positive review. Don’t go if you want a serious show that will leave you with questions about social justice. This one is pure fun that will leave you smiling.

    At first I was like this show is gonna be shit. But I watched it today and the show was mad good from the lighting, the music, and acting and it was phenomenal. Anyone who is able to watch the show should go and watch it to have a good time.

    Always love seeing Huey Lewis! Didn't care for the dance break (it was way too long and the choreography was uninteresting.) The Bobby character saying "I'm in!" reminds me so much of Peggy Sawyer saying "I'll do it!" in Lullaby of Broadway in 42nd Street...and not necessarily in a good way. 😂I kind of think this isn't going to do well.

      I agree. No offense to the actors/ writers/ directors / etc but this seemed oddly staged. And the main character seemed very stiff. I don't know, maybe in context, it works better.

    WTF? How are you going entice anyone to fly to Ny, plunk down money, if you only hear 6 bars from the lead? surrounded by Britney Spear dancers. Who staged this??🤣 I did like the buddy who was singing the whole song.

    • @mikeainsworth9861
      @mikeainsworth9861 Před 2 měsíci +2

      This song is used where the lead character’s old band is trying to get him to give up his corporate career and take another chance on music. That’s why his only line is when he agrees to rejoin them. You are right that this one doesn’t show him in the best light, but Corey Cott is great with the several songs he does sing throughout the play.

      I was also interested to hear corey sing. I assume they picked this song because it's the title and high energy. A lot of people go to shows and don't care about who's in it. Not me.

    I’ve always loved Huey Lewis and The News but I didn’t like this. The costumes didn’t remind me of the 80’s. Sorry.

      I thought the main character was more apt as a "greaser" in Grease.

    I live in Cleveland. They cut our city out (and Detroit). That sucks. And why are POC secondary characters yet again? The lead actor looks like a bad (posing) rock star. Bad vibe. Do better, Broadway.

    • @OriginalCaliKitty
      @OriginalCaliKitty Před měsícem

      Yeah, and Huey has said that it was a show in Cleveland that inspired him to write the song! Just going by this performance (which may or may not be fair), I liked the Asian guy.

      I recently saw this show and LOVED IT! I agree, wish Corey Cott had more to do in that number--he has an amazing voice. Will this show change the world? No. Is it extremely entertaining? Yes!!! I plan on going back.

  • @clcris
    @clcris Před 2 měsíci +1

    With respect to the respectable Broadway career of these artists, the story of this show seems like another jukebox musical leading by a white male straight men and having POC actors as secondary characters to look inclusive enough. It seems that this show came very late, perhaps in the 1990s it would have been seen as fairly conventional.

    • @ragtmt15
      @ragtmt15 Před 2 měsíci

      Maybe you should try to produce or write a musical then

    • @mikeainsworth9861
      @mikeainsworth9861 Před 2 měsíci +4

      I’ve seen it in previews. This show is much more in structure like Mama Mia! than typical jukebox bio musicals such as Ain’t Too Proud, Jersey Boys or Motown. A person sitting beside me who didn’t know anything about Huey Lewis was surprised to learn the songs were not original for the play. Tamika Lawrence, whose character demands it be played by woman of color, has one of the most important roles in the show and dominates a large part of the second act. She brings down the house in the final scene. The segment performed on GMA, by itself, really does not give a good picture of the entire show. You still might not like it because it is played entirely for fun with a number of silly characters, but for those wanting an evening of light hearted entertainment , it is very good.

      @JerkyPuck Před 2 měsíci

      @@ragtmt15why? It wouldn’t get produced because Broadway has become Vegas.

      Feel free to finance, write, direct and produce your own show but you can't so you won't then instead criticize. Get a life!
