the money also needs to be worth it. You need to invest money and make that back first before you are in profit.
Not every piece of land is lucrative and there is plenty out there, that only experienced miners can turn a profit on.
If you simply had to drive there and pick up gold-chunks from the ground, everyone would be doing it... When a washplant costs half a million and you need to front millions of USD to even get started, not everyone is doing it.
Aside from that, it's hard work. Not many want to work hard day in and day out, for a paycheck that is uncertain. You don't leave your family behind for half a year just to return without money.
Being away from family and remoteness isn't for everyone. Let alone weather conditions being extreme.
