5:44 oh hey! That’s me!! Lol seriously thrilled to be a part of this project!! I ALSO CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW YOU GUYS WHAT WE’RE DOING….but I gotta….so…..Nyah.
The pre-rendered model of your cat looks amazing. I am getting more excited to see more updates on your passion project. Hope you and the team will do great on the whole thing!
Excited to see what comes out of your foray into game creation, Al. Much love going forwards, i just wish i had some talent to actually help besides playtesting.
I'm really glad to see that your progress for this game is doing well... I can't wait to see how the finishing touches will look like when it's complete... I hope you and your team will keep up the great work and don't forget to " Never give up on your dreams whether it's making a video game or anything else just don't give up hope"
I highly recommend putting your prototype on Newgrounds. A ton of great games that were prototypes on Newgrounds such as Meat Boy, Blinding of Issac, Dead Estate, and even Hungry Knight started as a game jam but later it got turned into Hollow Knight.
Ayyyy! It's a special feeling getting a shoutout from a CZcamsr I follow! I'm glad I could help! And heh, shucks Wasn't expecting that shoutout to my rubberhose OC Thanks Al! Much luck!
As a fan of your older content, this does hit me hard with whiplash about it, but you're doing what you love and frankly that's amazing. Keep it cool man, this looks pretty good so far.
I really wish I had even half the patience you did. I’ve wanted to make my own game forever. I’ve got the characters, story, good gameplay ideas, I’m just not able to make that step into the whole “programming and modeling in blender, using game engines like unity” stuff yet. I’m still very excited to see more of your game in the future
Well everyone's gotta start from somewhere. Gotta fail and pick yourself up and try again and again to learn, that's the way it is for anything. But you're right, it definitely has a lot to do with patience. Programming and 3D modeling isn't super difficult, it's just a slow and methodical learning process with a few challenges. Every one could learn it with enough time, patience, and passion because if you don't like the process then what is the point of the final result? I'd say give it a try to see if you're still into it or not. Blender is a free software by the way. You've already got the ideas and motivation, I say you should make it happen and take that step forward. Maybe it'll be a very enjoyable venture for you. But you never know until you try.
I wouldn't say you're not a dev, you're doing your best and that's what counts. You had the idea and you're putting in all your effort, even teaching yourself modeling and programming... i took highschool courses on both of those that sucks. Do your best man. And be proud of that, if not yourself clearly all your fans are proud of you
Man you are a inspiration for me and I am glad your finally in your comfort zone, I’m glad your all excited and I hope this turns out well, as of now your doing really great!
This is very inspiring to the two games I want to make! I don’t know any coding but I want to draw, write, and design concepts then get to coding! Thank you for all that you do AL, you always brighten our day!
So hyped for these vids and the game. I adore it when we get to hear and see progress on games being made, just a little look inside is all some need to be engaged with something before it even release. Gonna keep the one eye pealed and hope nothing goes wrong. May good fortunes follow you Al, and UPS can suck one
My goodness cant wait to draw whatever the character looks like. You got this man! And hope all goes smoothly! Also pretty awesome on getting some help from the developer if Benne/Kiwi 64 etc. Nice!
Man that is amazing model work you got going for y'all! Hopefully your Unity journey goes better than mine because wooooweee it is a biggest pain in the tuckus I have had to deal with for a year, but never be afraid to try some other game software's like unreal engine if unity is not working out too well! Excited to see the next log!
Little late to this one but my game is starting work as well I got a a programmer friend and a nearly finished design document you inspired me to try to pursue voice acting then inspired me to actually make a game you're a great inspiration to get me off my lazy bum!
I hope your developing path on creating the game goes swell. What you should know that coding is not easy. The best way to compare coding is like Christmas lights when one goes out everything goes out. Either way your idea sounds great hope to see the final product in the future.
I’m happy that you laid down concept art, getting your style is getting ready, with that fancy smancy new PC, but you forgot to fill us in on the most important detail. Did you get more imitation crab meat man!
Ngl I'm inspired by this I was working on a 2d platformer as a 9th grader but had to put it down bc the computer I had was extremely slow now I'm working hard so I can get back into sprite animation in the meantime I've been drawing hoping everything works out well
I hope this works out for you. Oney was also doing a pre-rendered 2D platformer but it was too intensive on the system since it's easier to render a 3D model than a 2D image.
I would like to buy a copy of this game (when it's ready) so I can say that I supported the one and only Uncle Al. But really though, glad to hear things are starting to go north.
Good luck with your game. It looks like a fun idea, I hope you make it! From the shitposts, game commentary, and now this game. I love your content. Remember, you don't have to be a carbon copy like DK. I know you can make something cool and still stand out. 🐻💙 Edit: You're developing a game... That's enough... Even if you have to ask for help. Nothing wrong with it.
BTW, if you enjoy Beeny or Kiwi 64, be sure to check out the devs backlog of other games including MacBat 64, Toree 3D, & Toree 2. Great 3D platformers for cheap, basically about a $1.
Glad that you got your refund, mostly, and got a new rig. As long as you don't clutter it with a bunch of software and games it should run smooth for a long time. I also hope you can manage to do what 343 did with switching between classic and modern visual styles. That sharp chicken model got me interested.
Dunno if it will help or if it is something you're interested in, but right now on Humble Bundle there's a pretty bangin' deal on software including some audio/music editing/making software. Might be worth picking up to make sound effects at the very least. And Sony Vegas Pro 18 is included as well for the CZcams stuff. It's $25 minimum to get $850 worth of software. Figured I'd throw it out there. And you know, it's Humble Bundle so it's legit.
it is perfectly normal to you to be only the game designer. Is a important task and actualy in AAA industry even this task would be divided in a lot of people. Games are like houses, people don't construct one by their own normaly. You shouldn't even need to do other stuff
I AM A WRITER!! I would love to get to work on something big like this and put my talents to good use, I've just got a regular job that I work and a little bit of performance anxiety is all
Hey Al, wanted to ask, for people who use Maya, can they help out as well? I know its possible to at least format the models made on it to work with Blender, want to offer some help while I'm still learning the basics of 3D modeling in college rn
Nah bro, game dev involves also being the producer and director, if you can't figure out Unity you should do your best to help with art and anything to maintaina good working environment, Unity has a lot of documentation and almost anything you want to do will have a tutorial
My big area of focus has been modeling, animating, and rendering out sprites, and I can say that those are easily my favorite parts of the process so far. I'm really not a huge fan of programming so far, but I DO really want to learn how to be more efficient at it. Definitely trying to be as involved in every step as I can, but I have an amazing team and I have a lot of faith in them!
7:34 Did you know Miyamoto never actually coded anything, and that’s not some Dunkey joke this is a real fact that I was unaware of until a few months back, you’re fine Al
I hope you are making your game in some other game development thing because Unity has a evil greedy jerk ruining the company and charging indie game people and other types of people who are being successful
Have you considered using Raytracing within your engine of choice? In Unity you can use Physics raycast and read information out relating to position, material, and I believe uv map. edit: On the dev side I mean; you could introduce mutation and noise to jiggle where the rays hit your model, which might remove the need of so much manual tweaking.
5:44 oh hey! That’s me!! Lol seriously thrilled to be a part of this project!! I ALSO CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW YOU GUYS WHAT WE’RE DOING….but I gotta….so…..Nyah.
Hey Al, once you and you’re team get enough progress on your game you should make a kickstarter to get more people to know about it.
There's a good chance we will! We have a few avenues we'd like to try, so we'll see where it goes :)
The pre-rendered model of your cat looks amazing. I am getting more excited to see more updates on your passion project. Hope you and the team will do great on the whole thing!
The pre rendered look of old snes/n64 games is one of my favorite video game aesthetics and I wish more indie games would utilize that look.
Excited to see what comes out of your foray into game creation, Al. Much love going forwards, i just wish i had some talent to actually help besides playtesting.
I'm really glad to see that your progress for this game is doing well... I can't wait to see how the finishing touches will look like when it's complete... I’m glad to see you creatively branch out. Makes me happy.
Little late to this one but my game is starting work as well I got a a programmer friend and a nearly finished design document you inspired me to try to pursue voice acting then inspired me to actually make a game you're a great inspiration to get me off my lazy bum!
Scrappy is gonna be like an animal buddy I bet
You're doing the Kong crew good Al. Can't wait to see what you bring to the table.
Can't wait to see the results of this game!!!
I'd LOVE to make a 2D or 3D platformer!!!
Would be great if you could share the process on how to make these amazing pre rendered graphics sometime :D
Can't wait to see more, this is gonna be interesting I'm sure
Eyy proud of you Al!
I sure hope I eventually become part of the team, this is quite amazing!
I was very happy when u said that cat sprite would make an appearance
This will be like the pizza tower but for donkey Kong instead of wario. Im all here for it

Well whatever this game will be I’ll stay here waiting excitedly
Nice new PC dude!
This really does sound great, are you still needing members on ur dev team because me and like 2 other people might be interested

ohhhhh i wonder if commenting early means uncle al will kiss me (please cmon man)
How goes the project? 🐵
I love that kitty cat
Rock on funny monke man

This man gonna be busy
Will the music be David wise inspired?(By that i mean that if it will have that moody, relaxing sorta ambiente in the music)

Freaking epic
Uncle Al I am your big fan
I AM A WRITER!! I would love to get to work on something big like this and put my talents to good use, I've just got a regular job that I work and a little bit of performance anxiety is all
I want to see your characters so I can draw them!
Hey Al! I wanted to ask if you’re accepting voice acting apps since I would love to voice in your game!
I always wanted to make a dk country side scroller
Show more of your cat
I'll make a segment for future Dev Logs. "Scrappy Cat Corner".

What consoles are you planning to releasing it on?
Al, do you need any composers? :)
Gorgilah
got one question, will the audio be downgraded to sound like something from dk country?
I'd definitely like for it to have that SNES-like quality
What if I told You it's not a glitch,
It's a feature
Where will this game be available to play once it’s ready?
Probably too early for me to say. Ideally on all platforms, but not sure if that's feasible yet.

Godot is pretty good for making games
What’s the song used at the start
7:34 Did you know Miyamoto never actually coded anything, and that’s not some Dunkey joke this is a real fact that I was unaware of until a few months back, you’re fine Al
That honestly really makes me happy to know. Thanks for sharing this 🙏

MAKE SURE MICROSOFT WILL NOT SUE YOU
munkey
