40 years since the closure of Cortonwood Colliery in South Yorkshire

- It was on this day, in 1984 the National Coal Board announced the closure of Cortonwood Colliery in South Yorkshire.
This strike spread rapidly through the coal fields, polarised the country, and left a legacy in the former mining communities.

Remember back in the 80s most of the public were on the side of the miners. If these mines were here today Just Stop Oil would be demanding the mines be closed.
Closing the colliery’s was a massive mistake now we’re paying for it

The torys have always split the working class and are very good at it ,all because the working class let it happen. correct they closed double the amount, Mr T just put the final Nail in the coffin of British coal
Thatcher shut more productive capacity.
She also shut more Grammar Schools, Docks, Shipyards, Steelworks, Factories and Military bases.
