Yeah, I think that his delivery style is part of it but it's also b/c his arguments were so good the first time I heard them that he became a hero to me. The evidence for this consists of unambiguous messages in transcendental numbers like pi. This important element was missing from the movie based on his novel.
His scale gives me pause, because his argument building is fairly complex. But I wanted to make this point: just because something has a low probability of existing does not mean it doesn't exist. To my knowledge, we still haven't figured out how we even have a universe.

Why was he drawn to invoke such a scenario? Dawkins seems unconcerned with the question of a creator per se and spends almost all of his time blasting theism, mostly Abrahamic religions. Not without justification of course.
