Tenía 13 años cuando sucedió este certamen, tengo entendido que se estaba realizando un partido de fútbol en Bogotá (Colombia) y que las pantallas trasmitieron la final...no había duda de que la señorita Colombia Paula Andrea Betancourt era la mejor. Basta con escuchar la algarabía de la gente ante el puntaje en traje de gala, pocas candidatas sobrepasan los 9.8. Creo sin temor a equivocarme que la situación política y social del país, influyeron en la decisión.
Cesar Eduardo Luna Vivas si, los miss universos de ese entonces y algunos de ellos es puro política para generar polémica, a Grecia en 2001 le quitaron su MU para dársela al loca, en el 1967 USA sabia que iba a ganar, y la fea de Israel entro porque fue militar, donde para mi debió ganar Vzla, pero bueno estaba ocurriendo un terremoto muy feo en Caracas justo en la final del MU
La numero uno, yo estaba en el certamen y la verdad la Srita Colombia no tenia rival, Paula Andrea para mi es y sera la Miss Universo de ese ano. La mejor!

I really liked the dress of Miss Spain but the others were nice too. It is a shame that the evening gown competition there are not little sisters anymore since miss Universe 1996; I do think that the main objective of Miss Universe about the union of nations is already lost; even the opening songs and the little sister's theme fomented good feelings for the nations and it is a shame that nowadays we only see beautiful girls but not any union among the nations and it is also very important to foment this union.
1994 & 2000....no way.....sushmitha and lara dutta have captivated the paegent in all segments....lara dutta is having a record of scoring high at 9.9 in the interview competition....the real beauty wid brains...
I would have thought that my country Philippines wouldnt even longer experienced this thing Little Sisters Starlight serenade, one of the most magical glamorous and adorable and sought after part. of this annual Miss Universe pageant in the 90s,until the following year 1994, our country hosted its 43rd edition.I felt relief when our Little Sisters of the Philippines and our country would have the chance to be part of before this had gone in 1996 and beyond.

Miss Venezuela forgot to get her little sister. miss Brazil is a good sport and took both sisters to the main stage, lol. Too bad Brazil was robbed in this competition. She should have been top 6 top 3 for sure. I felt bad for USA, the crowd that was booing were just horrible.
Miss Brazil was really beautiful, elegant and smart. The judge Alonso gave low score to all non Hispanic contestants. Miss Australia gave the best answer in the top 6 and got a low score from Latino judges and did not make to top 3. Miss Australia, Brazil and Colombia should have made to top 3. In the 90s there were many cases of Latino judges messing up wit the results.
Alonso advocated Colombia all the way...kept giving her 9.9 that night whereas low scores to everyone else...she must have been really upset when Puerto Pico won...
i think this was a good top ten overall but i have to say the ones that stood out for me are as follows 1. miss colombia she had a beautiful gown and she wore it in platforms!! 2. puerto rico was classic in her gown 3. brazil i think she wore the gown it didnt wear her she looked lovely and finally miss usa although when i watched this pageant back in 93 i didnt care for her gown i think i was a good look for her
as far as who should have won miss puerto rico deserved to win...as far as who had the best gown...hands down goes to miss colombia...and she wore platform shoes...kudos
Mi humilde opinión. He visto muchos videos de Paula Andrea (Colombia) y sin duda es un monumento de mujer. Dicho por el mismo Osmel. Pero es verdad no se vió mejor aquí en esta edición. La Venezolana es atractiva pero no me mata mucho. Y aunque tiene labia, tanto su tono de voz como sus respuestas son muy patty. Brasileña es muy elegante pero no soy fan de ella. Puerto Rico o Dayanara Torres, tan criticada ella y cada vez que veo estos videos del pasado me gusta cada vez más ella.

Miss Brazil was cheated. She ranked first after the preliminaries, and then didn't make the finals. She certainly should have made the top 6 over India.
Not all girls who top the preliminaries become successful in the finals night. For example, Ms Greece 1994 topped the preliminaries in Miss Universe but did not receive good scores during the finals night. So it really is a matter of who the judges like during finals night.
@nikgr73 I've often wondered the same thing as far as why some of the judges disliked Brazil so much. I mean she was beautiful, had a brain, spoke elegantly. I'm not saying I would have given her the crown, as I thought Australia and Colombia were stronger, but she should have at least made the cut ot the 6 semis. Daniels didn't like the US, and Alonzo didn't like Puerto Rico (both score wise), so not sure if it's a question of just those 2 judges

Ademas como dije anteriormente yo estuve muy contento que gano Dayanara. Ahorra, mi hermana estuvo justamente en la audencia en este evento en 1993 de tras de un grupo que estaban appollando a Miss Puerto Rico y uno de ellos fue el que le grito " boooo " a Miss USA. Mi hermana me dijo que hasta la produccion lo confirmo, y el era de PR.
As a matter of fact Cuevas complained about that...he said he gave scores to all of them and for some reason they did not show up on screen. He said that something weird happen after MU 1993 was crowned...he did not go to the reception that was offered to the winner because of that.

One of the most elegant pageants in Miss Universe history; however, the way (Mex.) crowd Booed (USA) was just awful. When (Mex.) competes in the USA location, she is treated with upmost respect from the American crowd. But, it happened again in '07!! The world has it's people of different cultures, and opinions. Miss Universe is to bring that all together to celebrate their uniqueness. The USA has won twice since '93, Mex. hasn't won since the beautiful Lupita '91. Good luck mex, and USA 2010
Many things went wrong during this segment: the crowd booing USA, horrible judges' scores for some contestants' gowns, and Dick Clark as a bad host. The following year's evening gown segment is much better. I miss the singing very much.
Now just looking at the last round here you can determine who in my 6 only in my opinion should be up there. 1. India 2. Spain 3. Puerto Rico 4. USA 5. Brazil 6. Venezuela
El sistema que usan es parecido al de los Juegos Olimpicos,de los jueces que votaron,se elimina la puntuacion mas alta y la mas baja y se saca el promedio de las restantes,si por alguna razon un juez no vota o lo hace a des tiempo,no importa puesto que no se toma en cuenta y se saca el promedi en base a los juece que si votaron.
Venezuela's evening gown almost "ate" her little sister, LOL, that dress was so huge and the little sister was so tiny. Still she presented it well, hence her score, but I wish she put on another gown, lol.
