    I am glad to see someone is working on avocado disease and propagation of this beloved fruit tree. San Luis Obispo should be cooler than the San Gabriel Valley yet still I feel too much direct sunlight harms these trees so I use a very tall canopy with shade cloth giving a jungle environment with regard to the sunlight since our sun here is brutal and the trees seem to love the warm climate with the filtered sunlight. My orchard is along the foothills of the Angeles National Forrest east of Pasadena.

    I am growing a large amount of avocado rootstock in the San Gabriel Valley with a massive shaded grow in order to clone by grafting, a special avocado tree that I have developed over the past 20 years that produces a two-pound avocado that does not spoil for as long as a week once opened. So I am able to carve parts of the avocado for my consumption all week while it remains fresh. I have also developed some interesting saplings that actually give a white type of avocado flower. Currently, I have about 150 avocado rootstocks and I plan on expanding my shaded grow to add an additional 150 more avocado rootstocks. When I reach a thousand rootstocks I estimate I might develop a few new types of avocado trees. I did not know that cal poly Pomona had such an interest in avocado trees also.

    Think commercial production. A 2 pound avocado could be sold for processing. Revolutionize the ready to serve market. Global restaurant chains. Imagine being able to ship them to every Taco Bell in the world.

    I never heard the name of rootstock being tryed most my trees are on dusa and I need something much better than dusa, I will not buy any more trees on dusa.

  • @RareAvoTrees
    @RareAvoTrees Před 10 měsíci

    Current clonal rootstocks are worthless for rootrot, I'm finding no differance from my trees grown from seed only in my own orchard, Dusa is a joke it's over hyped and not worth paying extra money for trees.
