This is a very interesting alternate scenario to the story! It feels a bit weird to add this element to it and that we got this more modern version. But yeah, a lot of ... racial elements to it could have been something in discussions! Even not the intention but still ... It's just interesting to hear these alternate scenarios :O
Imagine every hero re-imagined on being black
Dahl knew exactly wth he was doing there was no way it was a mistake. In the original they were shipped from Africa in “gift boxes” to work in his chocolate factory where they were given cacao beans for their labor. There were around 10,000 copies of the original version published. This was significant and very interesting. Also he never “happily” changed anything he hated the plot for the 1971 film, he despised Gene Wilder, never liked the scary tunnel idea, didn’t agree with the fact that the movie was centered around Willy Wonka, and much more.
Cool! I had known about the Oompas changed from pygmies but was unaware an earlier draft had Charlie being brown skinned. I don't know what that would have done for sales or public perception (or the movie), but it does make me respect Dahl even more.
Since we just had a Burtonesque remake of the classic (17 years ago? Jeezus!), I don't know if we're yet ready for the earlier draft version on the big screen, but I'd be fascinated to see it. I'm sure Tucker Carlson would have conniptions, and for that, I'd happily pay full price.
I was sort of interested in your content, but this honestly pretty overbearing ideological expression was really offputting. Bye.
My gosh what did she do
Can't believe the truth
