It is here that Arthur presumably first fantasizes himself being the cause of Batman's genesis, meaning that it is entirely plausible that in the present time, Bruce has already reached adulthood and adopted his bat persona while Arthur, aged 46, is concurrently confined to the asylum where he writes his own backstory, deliberately intertwining it with the origin of Batman to facilitate his killer joke. We don't often visualize ourselves in younger form when looking back on our past, at least not without conscious deliberation, so try to think of the mid-forty-year-old Arthur we see throughout JOKER instead as a ghost from the present (trapped in the asylum) haunting his own past. BAM! The next big installment of the DCEU starring Robert Pattinson, Margot Robbie, and Joaquin Pheonix is practically writing itself!
@@BJGrice absolutely none of that is in Joker 2019, or was very poorly conveyed were it how the story was to supposed to be received. It would tie in better with the “multiple choice” idea in which comic Joker likes to remember his past, though I think Joker 2019 was trying to be its own separate thing - a much more shallow & less nuanced tale of the Joker’s “origins”

lol, yeah, I think that's what my problem was. I _did_ enjoy this movie, but I found the depiction of Cassandra Cain in it irked me a little the whole time for some reason.
I actually loved her (ok, I loved every main character, so that's not saying much). like, she's supposed to be this innocent, yet badass child that doesn't fully understand her situation and that's exactly how I felt watching her

Yeah, replace the pick pocket by Batgirl, make real heroines with Harley losing contacts with the Joker without killing him (making us hoped for a sequel), making Harley not their allies but not ennemy and now, the movie is good.
Honestly, Cassie’s character did not sell to me. She was so clean but dressed so weirdly compared to who she was supposed to be. Did not get foster child vibes... got ‘well-groomed teenage girl dressed up to pretend to be a little girl thug’ actor.
Her acting was ok though. I liked the Batman ending more.
I ironically disagree. the whole time Cassandra was on scene, it was thinking "I know you're kind of a badass, but you innocent, naive sweetheart...". you're supposed to feel bad for her throughout the movie and that's exactly what happened to me
I think her character is great,but they should not portray her as Cassandra Cain and just create a new character that ain't in the comics to be Harley's apprentice

@AJ Peeps That really isn’t a good thing. You really don’t want to have a separate version of the character be too similar to Ledger’s. It just comes across as a pale, cheap imitation. Phoenix showed that you can have a magnificent version of the character that is completely different to Heath’s, Jack’s, and pretty much any that has come before. It is still possible to portray Joker in both effective and purely original ways. Leto only scored one of those. And only on his second try.

Meh. I enjoyed the second Leto Joker. As for Phoenix I can't say I liked him but I can't say I didn't like him. It was close to the Red Hood Story. Not the same but the character was definitely relatable. Phoenix was definitely great as that Joker but the film was.....A little too off of the Jokers we've always have been familiar with.
But that's just my view.

Not that I don't mind DC giving her a starting point to grow, but I'm bothered that they still haven't handed her the Batgirl mantle back. And its not like they can't have multiple characters of the same name at least once in a while (Robins - Tim and Damian, Flash - Barry and Wally).
