It's quite a clever visual storytelling moment. Achilles removes all the arrows that would certainly have killed him, except for the heel arrow, and when the Greeks stumble upon the body all they find is the arrow through Achilles' heel (thus leading to the famous myth explanation). It's probably one of the better moments of the film
+Glen Bradley If you paid attention, I was referring to how it was explained rather subtly and "realistically" without the whole mythological aspect or being incredibly obvious :)
It would be cool if Achilles threw his sword at paris when he said ''we gotta go '' Im sure he could but he cares so much for breseiss that he let Paris live to make sure she escapes... Thats what I got from this moment and it brings chills every time I see it
The man killed his brother and his country is burning his city. I would have done the same thing in Paris' shoes. Not to sound like a hero but to be realistic. How was he supposed to know Briseis fell in love with him?
This is what anger and vengeances causes. Nothing but more pain. Achilles let his anger and vengeances get the better out of him. Just as Hector's father said and quote "How many brothers, cousins, husbands and fathers have you killed?" Achilles killed Hector and Hector was Paris big brother and Paris always looked up to his big brother for help and protection and achilles killing Paris big brother sent the anger and vengeances to Paris to get revenge for his brothers death and this resulted into Paris ending achilles life. Anger and Vengeance is like a poison. It's a life cycle. It never stops
I don't really see Achilles as a hero. Don't really feel you ever get the idea that he thinks he is a hero. He even says in the movie, "We men are wretched things". He is a great warrior, one of the best of the Greeks. Don't entirely see him as the bad guy either. He is certainly cocky, arrogant, and selfish as hell, but he isn't, at least not in the movie, portrayed as a raping ahole like some of the other Greek soldiers in the movie. I look at him as a product of the times, a warrior born and bred doing what all the other warriors of the time did. Don't see Paris as a hero either of course. He's not a warrior and he is rash little boy who only thought of his own happiness and not of the big picture. I mean, you don't seduce the wife of the guy your dad is trying to make peace with. Not a smart move. I would say of the three main guys (Hector, Achilles, Paris), Hector would be the most heroish of those three. He fights for his country, for his family and god bless him it amazes me he didn't beat the crap out of Paris when he learned the little crap had snuck Helen on board the ship. That being said both Hector and Achilles have admirable qualities.
+Chrissykat24 you are right about Hector but Paris was chosen by the three goddesses who to pick as the best all the goddesses promised him if he chose them. Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman on earth so she chose Aphrodite
+Vish p That's the poetic beauty of it. Instead of going out in a blaze of glory, the greatest warrior meets his end at the hands of a womanizing coward.
Disney's Hercules PHIL: "Who do you think taught Jason how to sail? Cleopatra? I trained all those would be heroes. Odysseus! Perseus! Theseus! A lot of 'yeuses'. And every single one of those bums let me down flatter than a discus! None if them could go the distance. And then, there was Achilles! Now, there was a guy who had it all, the build, the foot speed. He could jab, he could take a hit, he could keep on coming! BUT THAT FURSHLUGGINER HEEL OF HIS! He barely gets nicked there once and Kaboom! He's history!"
In all the Historical Movies made so far, this was the most touching and endearing of all Scenes, the Fall of Archilles and his declaration of his unspoken Love for Briseis and she for him, a Princess of Troy. Their Ill fated/Forbidden love. This will become an Ageless Movie. Brad and Rose played these roles superbly.
This scene causes a complex group of emotions in us all. You might have cheered on hector during his encounter with Achilles. But who can deny wanting this love story to go on?
We will always love you Achilles!! You will always be remembered as the best swords man any man could have!! I’m proud to call you a warrior my friend!!! 😢😢
It is sad that such an inspiring and brave warrior like Achilles should die so uneventfully, almost by mistake. However, in defense of Paris he did have to watch his brother die by Achilles hands, his kingdom has been overrun and pretty much burnt to the ground. They're at war so sometimes pretty or noble endings don't always happen because there's not much for rules or etiquette.
Just watched this movie again. First movie for 2020. My heart is breaking for achilles again,, I'm wishing that they will remake this movie and give achilles and briseis atleast a happy ending 😭 but i also thought that no other man can portray achilles better than Bradley same as for Rose,, u know they just did it perfectly 😭❤️
This Paris was really useless, sorry to say this. But he couldn't discern between times, he was all guided by feelings. First he took Menelaus's wife because of 'love' then he killed Achilles because of 'hate'. And then he carried on like nothing happened. Amazing.
A coward is someone who runs to safety and leaves everyone else behind like George Costanza in the fire episode of 'Seinfeld' or that actor in the 2005 movie version of 'King Kong'. Will you call Andromache a coward for running away with her baby son?
Achilles challenged hector like man and fought him, paris shoots the arrow behind Achilles back, there is huge difference between being called smart n being coward which paris was all his life...
A sad ending, but Achilles was a warrior who was part of an invasion, who Hector and several others and who knew he would die in battle so it is a fitting end.
2:33 - Paris is no longer speaking to Briseis, but is now speaking to Achilles. "We must go, I know a way out". Achilles looks up at him at 2:36. And so Achilles now finds himself in the unenviable position of being allies - because of his love for Briseis - with the man who mortally wounded him but a moment ago. :| Talk about your bad days. I'd have said, "Go, but ffs not with that guy!"
I like how they played it out in the movie. It was like that first shot took away his invulnerability, so that the rest could actually kill him. Nice touch.
What I love about this movie is it’s divergence from the mythology side. It subtracts all of the meddling the gods did in the original and replaces it with the stories of mankind. The only supernatural part is Achilles mother
there was so much emotion in this scene i started crying i was like too bad there isnt a sequel because that was really good the commection between the two characters before they died 😖
The stockholm syndrome is strong in this one. The dude killed her people and even her own cousin who he proceeded to humiliate in a terrible way. Yet she still cries when Paris takes revenge for the murder and poor treatment of his older brother.
Definitely, that war was going to happen at some point because Agamemon was wicked power hungry and wanted to control the Aegean and at that time most of the trade flowed through Troy. Paris and Helen unfortunately triggered the inevitable and gave him an excuse.
Willem Verheij I understand Achilles... I would have ripped Hector apart limb from limb. Or have you forgotten he killed Achilles' cousin? Poor treatment, pah. I would have turned him into ash and used him to fertilise the fields of Troy, within sight of the city walls. But I do find it weird that she still loved this guy. To be honest, Paris of all people does not deserve vengeance. He is a pathetic weakling who does nothing right this entire movie. He runs from Menelaus (after failing spectacularly, he should have at least learned how to fight as a prince) and forces Hector to throw his honour out the window to kill Menelaus. I would have left Paris to die, you reap what you sow. And that is the point of this comment. Hector reaped what he had (unintentionally and sadly) sown. Paris reaped what he had sown (deservedly, the stupid, weak, horny, dishonourable fuck). And ultimately, Achilles reaped what he had sown. Nobody won in this story, only Agamemnon was laughing by the end.
The fact that Paris used arrows did not make him a coward(by that logic, Legolas would be a coward due to his reliance on a bow), it was the fact he attempted to kill Achilles with an arrow from BEHIND. Paris never had any valor whether it be this film or the poem it was based on.
When you truly realize Brisais and Achilles were the better couple and that Achilles died because of Paris and Helen being together 😔 Paris whyyyyyyyyyyy
Stop complaining that Paris killed Achillies, remember Achillies killed Hector and dragged his body in front of his whole family, Paris was taking revenge and redeeming himself
Rhys Nichols very true bro but Achilles challenged hector like man and fought him, paris shoots the arrow behind Achilles back, there is huge difference between being called smart n being coward which paris was all his life...
Only an idiot would have confronted Achilles face to face, especially after he managed to kill Hector (who was the best warrior Troy ever had, need I remind) in single combat with almost no effort ; not to mention that Troy was being sacked and that he had to act quick. Plus he wasn't only taking revenge for his brother, he was also trying to rescue Briseis. What would you have done ?
Actually, (according to the myth) his mom Thetis hold him from the heel, when she bathed him in the Styx river, to become invulnerable. So the water didn't touch his heel. That was the only spot that could harm his physiology, due to normal hits - not if a 2000 kgr rock fall on him... :)
Aragorn: "Legolas, fire a warning shot past that one's ear." Gimli: "Mind your aim!" *Legolas strings arrow* *Gimli pushes bow down, causing it to hit Achilles' heel* Gimli: "OOHH!"
I can say it was really different from the book, but I liked it. In the movie, they made Achillies a real hero (at least that's my point of view). I've watched this scene over 20 times ever since I was small. And I cry at it every single time. The movie is really good, but very different from the book considering the characters' personalities.
he knew her fate would have been death had tgey stayed together. he couldn't just leave and run with them. he gave freedom to the only person who gave him a reason other than to become a legend.
How Troy Should Have Ended. Girl: No! (Paris shot an arrow and hit Achilles ass.) Achilles: AH!! MY ASS!! OH ZEUS THAT FREAKING HURT!! Paris: Oh wow. I'm so sorry man! You're not dead?! Achilles: No but it still hurts. Holy crap!! (Paris shot again and hit his spine.) Achilles: AH!! FOR REAL?! SHIT MAN!! Paris: Crap! Again, sorry! I'll try again! (Shot his neck) Achilles: (screaming and choking in agony) Paris: Oh come on. That should have killed you! (Crotch shot) Achilles: WHAT THE FUCK!!!! Paris: Ok! Ok! This time, this will kill you for sure! (Fore head shot) Achilles: DERP!!
Even if Achillies wanted to save Briseis and help the remnants of Troy through her, Paris would have still killed him for playing a role in the fall of Troy and the humiliation he did to Hector. A well deserved death.

This movie is refering to illiad, yes, but on other stories, too. (Even though they decided to almost completely change the whole myth to make it more hollywood-like -.-' )
marakigate4 not sure about what you are trying to say... anyways ACHILLE dies in the last assault of TROIA. Whatever version u read that's his destiny... dying when TROIA is conquered... that's the point!
This Paris.. omg the only movie which I hate Orlando Bloom, he his a coward, bringing war to Troy and then shot an arrow when Achilles doesnt watch. 0 honor or respect
"You gave me peace, in a lifetime of war" ❤️
Something a real warrior can only hope for. But I suppose he showed her in return a blink of freedom and a concept of self determination or not?
Boromir would be proud of how many arrows achilles took
Just so happens he's ALSO in the movie :D
he would also be proud of legolas for killing Achilles.
And he lives in this movie?!!??!! :o A Record!!
one does not simply shoot achilles
Unless its in the heel
It's quite a clever visual storytelling moment. marakigate4 not sure about what you are trying to say... anyways ACHILLE dies in the last assault of TROIA. Whatever version u read that's his destiny... dying when TROIA is conquered... that's the point!
True love💖💖
Nice shooting arrow
I guess paris avenged Hector’s death
Invincible Demi-God warrior, invulnerable except for his heels.
Wears armor except on his heels.

Achiles is so good at killing that he can't act his death properly
He probably has never felt a strike in his life... no man ever lived long enough to do so! XD
Came here because of Pyrrha from RWBY...
yep me too
the soldiers were like:"yep, we are gonna lose"
Achilleeeeesssssssss.
When you stub your toe after doing something good 0:24
Just a nitpicking but what was Achilles about to do when he lifted his sword .... was he gonna try to throw that shit
Baby MMA Yeah exactly. Like he's trying to use the force or some shit
At least he tried to do something
Its so funny for some reason to see him gasp from that shot, classic Achilles.
I think Paris should join the trojan army's archers as i think his accuracy with the archer bow is always top notch
thousands of men died all because of that damn coward paris.
This Paris.. omg the only movie which I hate Orlando Bloom, he his a coward, bringing war to Troy and then shot an arrow when Achilles doesnt watch. 0 honor or respect
The amount of people who don't understand why certain things happened in the movie have me stressed.
R.I.P Achilles
