  • Welcome to a little book video where I talk about bibliotherapy and share with you six novels that I would recommend to anyone who feels like disappearing into other, interesting worlds sometimes. I would love to hear what you think about the books. If you have any suggestions, by all means share them :-)

    D. E. Stevenson, Molly Clavering and Elizabeth Fair are some of my favorite comfort reads.

I would add “House of Mirth” to the list. It is a interesting portrait of the options women have had (have) and how society comments on women who dare to push boundaries of what is expected of them.
I also enjoy Joyce Carol Oats (if you like weird) and Margaret Atwood, specifically “Cat’s Eye” although most know her from Handmade’s Tale.
Great video and I too love Jane Austin!

I read Rebecca when I was a teen. I can still remember the place and that summer of my reading. It remains one of my top five favorites.

Your 2022 knitting recap video popped up in my feed and I was floored by your taste in patterns and yarns. Again here your book choices are many great favorites of mine, from recent times and long ago. The Faber book especially. I wish he had more books. Great work.

Hi Helle....I am so delighted that I found your video podcasts. You are so enjoyable to listen to and your videos are so calming and informative. I happen to love when you speak philosophically and share your knowledge of travel and take the viewer along to these different places in your own country as well as other European spots you have visited and videoed. I too got the chance to go to Santorini and it was so beautiful but unfortunately we were on a cruise which didn't give us much time to explore. So I'm getting more of the island when I watch your video. I also want you to know that I purchase the novel, "The Crimson Petal and the White"......what a great recommendation...I can't put the book down....my next read will be "The Talented Mr. Ripley" because of your recommendation. I do want you to also know that I'm a knitter which brought me to your site but I'm loving all the other topics as well. You are such a lovely woman, so well spoken and so smart. I'm enjoying the full circle of your video presentation. I now want to visit Denmark.😊😊 Stay healthy, keep smiling and please continue with your videos. ..Jeannine DiSario, Shelton, CT

As a passionate reader I loved this video! I have to confess that of all the books you mentioned, I have only read Emma; I have heard of all others, of course, except the last one, which I'll look up. I read over half of The Name of the Rose when I was in middle chool (I guess I was about 13). It was hard but I remeber enjoying it a lot, then somehow I put it down and never finished it, and haven't picked it up since. I should definitely read it, though. I used to read many more 'classics' years ago, I have tended to read more recent novels for a number of years now - primarily 20th and 21st century - I woudn't be able to say why, though. Thanks for the reading inspiration 🤍

May I be so bold as to recommend a book and the film made from it?😊. Possession by A.S.
Byat. I believe that I saw the film first, which is not ideal, but, it led me to this extraordinary read by a female English author who is our contemporary….or thereabouts! The film is excellently acted and the book is ….once again, to me, astounding. Best wishes and hope that you enjoyed NY, if that is possible in these tortured times in the USA. Just like the sixties…we can pray for peace. Also, hope you found all of the yarn that your heart desired….which is a dangerous thing.🎉 ( I love to shop!)

You may indeed - ‘but’ I have already read it, twice, and I, too, found it amazing. Loved the literary-ness of it and was in awe of her ability to write both prose and poetry 🥰

After watching this video, I was enthused by your choices and the books on your shelves. And, I thought that we had similar reading tastes and even downloaded the book the Crimson Petal and began to read and enjoyed its novelty…..’watch you step’! But, I did not enjoy discovering that the book is pornographic. The crude mind-set of searching for pre-pubescent girls was way too much for me even though I was encouraged to read an unknown author when you said that you envied others who have yet to read it.
I read until the young man achieved his determined tryst with Sugar and had no idea of where it was going after that and it could have been going somewhere w/o the content I find so offensive. But, that was not reason enough for me to continue on. I have enjoyed your videos and your incredible knitting projects. Many Blessings to you and your family and may your channel continue to grow as you would wish for it to. 🌞

That’s the danger of ever recommending anything to anyone, I guess, though I think I did mention that the main character was a prostitute in Victorian London. But we all draw our lines different places. All the best 😌

@@danishmusings Great. You know Pessoa (poet) and Saramago. How about trying Eça de Queirós? I suppose he is translated to English. And, of course, I know the two Danish writers you mentioned. Shame on me.. I couldn't remember and as far as Karen Blixen is concerned I was not sure about her nstionity. Sorry. 🙏🙏

From where do you buy your English language books, Helle? Especially since the monstrous Brexit.

I haven’t bought many since Brexit except when in London, or else www.thebookdepository.com ☺️
