9:40 I love the fact that Michael is using a keyboard thing from another alien planet while his tattoo says, "Live simply..."😂
I got the Speed Editor when it was released and got the Studio License free - basically it was a true two-fer the price of one. I love using the Speed Editor and would never be without it . I also got a used Micro Panel at a great price and it really does give you capabilities that you never realized simply using a mouse. Great assessment of these products. I also have the small Cloud Storage and that’s a no brainer if you have multiple devices/people working on the same project.
Thanks for your input! How has the Pod been for you? Do you find it useful when working alone or would you also agree it’s majorly useful with multiple people
I think it’s useful as a central place to have all your project media. I use multiple platforms depending upon what I need to do including the iPad version that is currently my favorite platform for editing due to its size and mobility it gives me. I reserve the MacBook Pro for the heavy lifting. Knowing where all your media is makes life easier.
Finally a proper editor review these machines. 🎉 I think I’ll get the M2 MacBook. I have a beast of a desktop at the office. But sometimes I want to edit on the move or to show clients.
thanks, what about clean video out accessory? or your process for calibrating video display. Thanks.
You should release your shortcuts or do a video walking people through that workflow…especially for those of us thinking about switching from PPro
What about the editors keyboard ? I was thinking of getting it.
What about using an Icon Platform M+ control surface for audio editing with Fairlight?
You’re missing streamdecks man! Those really are game changers. I have two xls, and my iPhone as a third one . That in combination with my mini panel is like having all the big 25 k panel buttons at a fraction of the price
I wish you had covered the fairlight mixing controller and audio editor.
agree
As always, great video! It would be very cool to know your opinion about the Editor Keyboard
Always wanted to try it out! I may just have to try and get my hands on it!
@@initialfocus That would be awesome... are you listening BMD?! lol
I loved the ultra pro colorist part😂
How’s the tour box on it’s on for the jog wheels? Was thinking of using one for Final Cut Pro
The wheels just do the shortcut for left and right arrows. So it works but you won’t get that smooth and faster jogging like on the speed editor in resolve
I couldn't live without the Speed Editor. If it broke, the only thing I'd replace it with (other than a new Speed Editor!) Would be the full Davinci Resolve Keyboard Editor with the scroll wheel.
I use the full Editor Keyboard and love it. I think it solves some of those issues with the Speed Editor, especially with having both hands on it for performing tasks. Plus you have the QWERTY Keyboard on it, and that can be customized a bit more in the software with regards to the Keyboard Shortcuts. But then you have the hard buttons that can't be customized, but you don't need to because they are smartly designed. I really love the Editor Keyboard, but it is for my Desktop Computer only!
Always wanted to try the full keyboard and see if it helped much more! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Hello. Can you use ct and + together? Greetings
Such a pity. I’d love programmable bu’ins 🥺
Yeah I wish they would update it to support that even if the physical buttons stayed the same.
Quick… so knowing what you now know long term, would you recommend the Speed Editor as a pick up for purchasing the software? Or use that extra $100 towards another type of controller.
I personally would pick it up. I use it for the wheel, IN/OUT, append, cut/ripple delete and a few other buttons. If you do multi cam stuff as well you’ll get a ton of value out of it. However if you don’t care about the wheel and want to set your own custom combo shortcuts then the Neo would work better. P
@@initialfocus I picked up your course man since I am completely new to DaVinci so thanks for the insight…. I don’t want to make a huge mistake getting started with the wrong controller. I shoot Weddings with 4 Bodies so hoping your course will shorten my learning curve.
Oh that’s awesome! Thanks for joining! Very excited to launch the new desktop video stuff early next week. If you ever have any questions you can DM me on insta/twitter or click the contact me button inside the course to email me directly!
@@initialfocus Thanks man. Hoping to get a handle on DaVinci 😅
would you still recommend the speed editor and Tourbox after seeing the new control surfaces?
Yep, the new editor is still directed towards multi-cam or live broadcast editors. If you work in those areas the new panel can be worth it. For me I only use the in/out and wheel on the speed editor and rest of my custom shortcuts is on the Tourbox
@@initialfocus I purchased your DVR tutorial and it helped me a ton. I feel confident transitioning from FCP... I'm just wondering why I haven't done it sooner.
Tourbox is goated, if you edit alot definitely worth it
Are the jog wheels good?
@@erbartlett yeah the wheels are good
There is the full size DaVinci Resolve Editor Keyboard with wheel. About US$600 to $750.
what about a mouse with trackball for that " slicing "
Trackballs rock!
I always find it fascinating that so many don't include an I/O device in videos like these .. They've got to be on the top of the list if quality of the end product is of any concern. Would be interesting to know if you are using one?
Also where you would priorities that in comparison to the items that you introduce in the video?
For sure all the items aid in workflow and speed things up but none of them increase quality.
thoughts anyone?
Obviously if you're recording in studio or on a massive static set, with multiple cameras, that would make sense. But most people are not doing that.
Personally the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO is perfect for our needs in the studio, it's shaved post production down by 3/4
I think what you're talking about is an extra card for a reference monitor right? I'm absolutely on board with you, this is one of the most important items I'm looking for at the moment (including a good but affordable monitor). I think most of these videos leave that out, because it doesn't attract as much attention as a shiny new toy, that promises to make you faster and looks cool. I fell in that trap too and wanted to spring for a mini-panel before I realized, that first of all I should really have a good and accurate monitor to even judge the image.
So i am an editor since about 1 year. And my biggest client wants to start with grading. I have little to none experience in grading. I also only worked in Fcpx until now, but will definitely switch now to DaVinci. I will get the speed editor and use it maybe alongside a small keyboard or only the speed editor (i use the shortcut you used to cut and delete everything before - use it all the time and the speed editor does not have this). But now my question as someone who edited for about a year now and his biggest client wants to start grading, should i get the mini or micro panel and if yes, which one would you suggest? I have a feeling that the micro could limit me soon but i have 0 experience with these hardware…
Would be nice to get a reply :)
if you don't have one, first of all get a colour accurate monitor, calibrate it and also an extra card to route the signal to it (Blackmagic Decklink or UltraStudio Devices).
I think the base model MacBook pro had a slower drive.
Is this a tutorial or just one big commercial?!
😮😮❤❤
❤️❤️
Its not talks anything about the fairlight deskmixer at the tube. Doesn’t find so much information about it. The are some, but quite low levels… anyone with experience?
This program is so damn complicated 😵💫
about sound being important? Absolutely. I've seen so many utube vids with incredibly low audio levels. Some have really good video. But if the creator didn't bother checking the audio levels, then the content can't really be that great, can it? I don't care how good it is.... shit audio = shit video. It's amazing that the person doesnt bother to hear what is sounds like!!!
I have the the mini panel and the speed editor, on the speed editor, the scroll wheel wish is the selling point of this unit and it stops working then it works when ever, if I'm on bluetooth and I start Davinci it won't wake up, I have to plug it in for it to wake up and is a hit or miss on the jog wheel to work and what's worst, no tech support. There's a lot a people whit this problem I saw a video about the reset and it never work for me.
I don't think there are a lot of people with the problem since I've never heard of it and never experienced it. Seems like you have an alternative motive behind your comment...
I desparately press random keys on it, then it wakes up.
