Hi, I am a Christian and a new Vegan, thank you for this video. How can we love our neighbor without caring for the planet you leave for them and their children. I am a survivor of Covid and the way I’ve eaten my entire life has given me health issues that made me more vulnerable to Covid. I’m so thankful to Christ for bringing me through the virus and for changing my mind about what I put in my body. Our bodies are a temple of God and we should maintain it and keep it as healthy as possible in order to serve others I’ve found that easier to do by eating a plant based diet. My hurt is burning for this topic. I am a Christian and I have been vegan for 7 years. I cannot tell you how badly it hurts me to see churches celebrating holidays with meat filled barbecues and to rejoice with one another when one of them goes hunting and gets a "great kill". That is NOT the heart of God. Love is kind. It is not self serving. Thank you for laying this out so well. I hope and pray that Jesus begins to change people's hearts so that they will love more compassionate lives.

2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

I had an experience this year that led to me converting to Christianity. It’s been through reading the Bible and consuming media about the Bible and Christianity that I’ve actually been led to veganism. It’s still the early stages of my journey, but my interpretation of the religion is one that calls me to stop giving my money to animal exploiters.
If we are to treat others how we wish to be treated, if we’re called to serve “even the lowest” among us... I find it hard to not believe that in 2020, that means a commitment to a vegan lifestyle.

This one definitely makes you think, but it definitely makes sense. If you have the option between choosing a meal made from death and choosing a meal not made from death- the more compassionate choice is obviously the meal with no death. @@VeganYak Unfortunately it isn't that simple. Your diet that consists of nuts, fruits, seeds, grains especially cause ALLOT of deaths. Rodents, frogs, insects, birds many of them die in the process of harvesting, or spraying pesticides. Or even straight killing of wild animals that are rushing into crops of nuts for example like hogs or deer, not even mentionig that organic farming of vegetables is totally exploiting and depended on blood and fecies of animals for the regeneration of soil and proper growth. If everybody would go Vegan it would not be sustainable, we can't eat all certain fruits like avocados and we can't live a healthy life on only grains not mentioning a really high percentage of people who can't eat legumes (IBS, Extreme bloating) and need vitamin D because of lack of sun. Supliments are not studied enough for us to be taking and relying on it instead of a balanced diet. As some Christians already said, it's a sacrificial world, something needs to die for us to live the message of Christianity is that final sacrifice was done where divinity shed his pure blood so we can have everlasting life, God humbeled himself so we can be lifted up, but this world will never represent the kingdom of God, it just can't because it's the kingdom of the Evil one, resisting temptations can be about overconsuming food, glutony and we should eat less, avoid fast food, factory farmed animals and so on. But Veganism is and should be a choice, it's an ideology and an extreme one, you can save allot of animals, love them but still eat the flesh to sustain yourself on this planet! sory for my English

God's Eden menu cured me of extremely high hypertension and cholesterol and awakened the Vegan within me 3 years ago! I would argue that you don't really have any moral argument if you are an atheist/ agnostic, for the belief that eating animals is immoral. If there is no objective morality and objective law giver then there is no basis for objective truths in an atheists arsenal.
Since the only metric for good without object truth claims is that something "feels good" (doesn't mean morally good), which is what many meat eating people may argue, they have no meaningful argument (without a God) to refute the claim.
Not saying there can't be vegans that are atheist/agnostic, but rather that it's contrarian to their core beliefs.

@Vebunkd People may have sacrificed animals to sustain their lives and to God in an insufficient attempt to get forgiveness of their sin. They were going to kill and eat the animal regardless so they made an attempt to make this brutal and imperfect way of necessary living more honourable by inviting God into every aspect of their lives. It doesn’t mean this is Gods will for us to live this way as shown in the garden of eden of heaven which both demonstrate Gods intended vision. It makes no sense that as an all knowing and loving God, he would create feeling, thinking individuals who want to live and value their lives like we do merely for the purpose of appeasing our tastebuds. You can believe humans have more moral worth and still be vegan as well. If you believe we should bring heaven to earth, then that requires being vegan by default. There’s absolutely no need for killing and exploiting animals in this day and age when it’s for nothing but our own greed.

As a vegan who became Christian, there seems to be this mainstream misconception that animals were put here for us to (ab)use. This could not be further from the truth. Animals were put here for the glory of God and given the same breath of life (ruach) and souls (nephesh) that humans have.

@@isispotatos2783 Depends what specifically you are looking for really. Are you looking to counter claims of meat eaters or just provide proof texts God does not like flesh consumption?
One of my favourite passages showing the kinship of humans an animals is Ecclesiastes 3:19-21:
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
Another really good one is Proverbs 12:10: A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Proverbs 23:20 specifically admonishing flesh consumption: Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
if you go to the original languages, these passages are also a lot more meaningful than Western, pro-meat translators would have you believe.

Genesis was vegan (maybe even frugivorous) and all the revelatory visions show a place with no death or suffering again as well. It's only the "messy middle" that reluctantly permits sin. Even the oft-quoted Genesis 9:3 is literally THE most reluctant permission ever granted in the Bible. It is prefaced by a warning in 9:2 (to both humans and animals) and concluded with several restrictions in 9:4-5. The latter basically stating that we will be held accountable for all blood spilled.

Nice video! If I could add some points that I think you missed:
In Christianity, "gluttony" is viewed as a sin, and self discipline is viewed as a virtue. The majority of people who eat animals do so for pleasure which goes against Jesus' teaching to shun material pleasure. And ultimately, veganism requires a lot of self discipline -- it might require skipping a meal if there are no options available -- but for Christians who believes God sees everything, they have more reason to not want to "cheat" (Christians also have a practice of abstaining from meat during Lent and other feast days so they recognise that veganism is virtuous). Some literature that explores similar themes are Dante's _Inferno_ (with regards to gluttony) and also Dostoevsky and Tolstoy's works in relation to asceticism. Like you say it is not just Christianity, but there are other religions (like Buddhism) that also value the self discipline required to abstain from animal products.
To play devil's advocate, there are stories in the Bible (especially Old Testament) that seem to justify animal agriculture. The first is the story of Cain and Abel where God preferred animal sacrifice. Another example is in Exodus when God told the Hebrews to slaughter lambs and put their blood on the doorframes. I am interested in your thoughts on these examples, since you claim that God's ideal world is vegan, why would He require His subjects to raise livestock for the slaughter?
The New Testament resolves some of this tension since there is symbolism that Jesus takes the place of the lamb of God. However, this justification does not apply for other Abrahamic religions, and even today, adherents generally believe it is morally good to sacrifice animals for God (hence Halal and Kosher).

Remove the beam from your own eye before pointing out the speck in your brother’s eye. Stop judging your brothers and sisters and open your heart to ALL. Love your neighbor as yourself. You are making it seem like you are somehow above others because of the Lord. The Lord’s love shines on ALL equally just like the sun. God’s love does not play favorites and you are not special. This is what most so called Christians struggle with- judging everyone and everything around them and general intolerance for anyone who does not have Christian beliefs, and thinking they somehow have special access VIP passes to God. This is a brainwashing job done by Satan/the ego tempting us to think we are special over our neighbor. If you judge and hate others who are not “Christian,” then you are not Christian yourself. There are NO exceptions to Jesus’s teachings. His law is love and his gospel is peace.

I stopped eating animals at the beginning for 2018 and I’m Christian since I can think.
->I didn’t actually stop eating meat because I’m Christian.. I always asked myself „why those precious animals have to die, live a miserable short life and end up on our plates”? I grew up in a big city but I visited every summer my family in Poland on a farm. Typical polish farm live means EATING AND SLAUGHTERING POOR ANIMALS. I remember as a child how I pleaded and cried to my uncle, to let a chicken alive. I even took the chicken and wanted to run away with it. But my uncle took the chicken with it with a axe and you may know what happened sadly after.. the same goes for all the pigs, gooses and turkeys that my family has slaughtered. I never could understand it. But somehow I continued to eat meat because everyone around me ate meat. I didn’t even know that vegans exist back then... but yet I cried always when I knew that a animal got slaughtered and this with only 6-7 years old.
When I was around 20; I started watching slaughter house videos and I cried the whole time. The screams were awful. Still haunting me. And what broke my heart too was seeing animals standing in line waiting to be slaughtered and the others saw it and they started crying because they didn’t wanted to end up dead like their friends.. how can this humane and tolerated???? I will never understand this.
Now I’m 22 and I feel physical and mentally healthy too.
Going vegan is the best for animals, the planet and for yourself too!!

I’m a Christian and a vegan. I chose this because of wisdom. I see what is happening to our planet from the meat industry and fishing industry. Is it a sin? No, you CAN eat meat. BUT. If you really do research, why would you want to? God doesn’t say to eat it or don’t eat it but I believe He gave us His spirit and we have His nature in making good decisions. In biblical era, they did not have giant machine like industries like we do today. They weren’t filling the ocean with all this plastic and killing the rainforest. So it’s kinda hard to compare apples to apples when they fished and we MASS produce and mass kill. It’s very different nowadays. I chose not to eat animal products because if this. Because God said to have dominion. In His nature, if I am dominant over kids, (in HIS nature) I would love them and protect them. I would make sure that my “dominion” is for their safety and well being. Dominion doesn’t mean kill. I don’t “preach” that people should be vegan but I would love for them to because of many people chose to, we could save our planet.

      @skywalker9770 Před 2 lety

The choice to go vegan would be entirely your choice and scripture can be used to both justify and condemn the vegan position so it's important to interpret scripture carefully and in context. My understanding is that veganism is an optional position within this era between Eden and the restored Eden. Eating meat would be permissible for Christians and even recommended in certain contexts eg if healthy alternatives to meat were not available
Humans were made to image God in a way that animals were not and God gave Noah permission to eat anything Genesis 9v3.
The sacrificial system instituted for Israel involved a lot of animals dying. Jesus ate the passover supper which presumably included lamb and ate fish after his resurrection. Indeed Jesus is of course referenced as the 'lamb'.
Scripture appears to indeed permit and I dare say encourage the eating of meat certainly for those under the sacrificial system and after the curtain to the holy of holies is rent in two following his resurrection and the abolishing of the sacrificial system he is still eating fish..
However the bible looks forward to a time when animals will live in peace with eachother and us with animals but following the fall of man it appears that animals began to prey upon eachother and we were allowed to also join the circle of life and eat animals also
The only caveat would appear to be eating meat with blood in it (which most Christians do) and unnecessary cruelty towards animals which I think would be understood to be wrong from the tenor and tone of scripture which encourages us to kill for food but not for sport. This video does raise some important questions worth discussing though such as health, environmental impact, effect on other believers (the context here is other believers I think not just anyone) and cruelty within animal agriculture itself so I would reiterate my first point that choosing to go vegan would not be sinful but rather a matter of individual conscience. It would however be wrong to judge another believer for not going vegan as that kind of judgment cannot be justified based upon the general thrust of scripture particularly pertaining to the period in which we live (in a fallen world between Edens)
So until the golden age predicted by Isaiah arrives I believe that Christians are permitted to live appropriate to this period and continue to eat meat.

In Romans, it was referring to eating meat that was supposedly sacrificed to idols but was sold in the marketplace as there was too much meat for the priests to eat. The mature Christians knew that the meat was fine because there is no power in those idols to defile the meat. However, out of sensitivity to the immature Christians recently out of paganism, it was suggested by Paul to not eat certain meat around the immature Christians who thought the meat was something dangerous still thinking that the inanimate idols had power.

At the end of the day. I don't think you have to be vegan to be a Christian. I mean, consider the fact that our bodies are technically designed to eat meat. Cause we have canine teeth , and while we can get protein from plants, meat is the best way to get protein. As long as you don't eat an excessive amount of meat to the point of it being unhealthy. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating meat as a christian. But that doesn't mean you have to eat meat to be a Christian

    Re: Loving your neighbor.
Would it be considered love to encourage or enable someone to use drugs or alcohol (or anything known to be unhealthy)? Of course not, right?
If we look around us, we see people with heart disease, diabetes, cancers, and so many other diet and lifestyle diseases which could be reduced and/or eliminated by a whole foods, plant-based diet. So in the same way as with drugs and alcohol, it is not really loving others if we encourage or enable them to consume unhealthy items that the world calls “food”.
And for those who say they just cant give up cheese (or other addictive products): ok, so don’t give them up. Just crowd them out. There are so many amazing foods out there, and we dont need to worry about “avoiding” or “eliminating” things from our diets so much, if we are so busy filling up on the truly good stuff!

Makes sense . I recently have started a plant based diet and I am Christian. . I wonder secretly why God hasn’t revealed this to me earlier as a lifestyle choice for my health , fitness and better way to live . Am I that slow ? Was I not committed enough in following Christ ? Whst took me sooo long ? I’m 60 and just now “ figuring it out “ feeling incredibly stupid and ignorant , I somewhat get it but not why I didn’t catch in earlier even though I’ve been around vegans and vegetarians for years . I even attempted bring vegetarian years ago and came up short . Just thinking out loud . Live this video !!!

Hi, I'm not a vegan, but i plan to turn vegan due to Biblical reasons, i turned from a carnivore to a flexitarian meaning i have limited eating non-veg, but soon intend to give up all non-veg and animal products, and we can really make a very strong case for veganism from scriptures
starting from Genesis 1:29, it was the vegan creation of Genesis 1 that God declared as "very good", but i also believe that we shouldn't impose it on fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who may not be vegans, Christ bought us all with his precious blood, vegans and non-vegans alike, so lets not make this a division causing issue in the Church, peace!

This is the best argument for Christian veganism I've heard. There's a popular argument for Christian veganism at the moment that is throwing doubt on the word of God, I don't believe this helps and I don't believe it's necessary. In fact, it will only alienate vegans in the church more. As a Christian vegan I've faced hostility in church, I even had to sit through a sermon where a pastor was teaching that veganism is linked with paganism and contributed to the escalation of sin before the flood, which is why God told Noah to eat meat. This was done in a small church where everyone knew I was vegan. I pray that I will be able to answer people in the clear, well-articulated and non-confrontational way that this speaker does.

I guess my comment to you would be: how does a vegan lifestyle bring glory to the kingdom of God and how does being a vegan come into alignment in spreading the gospel across the world and making deciples of Christians?
If Jesus was here today his main priority would be to save the lost, I believe he wouldn't be advocating a vegan lifestyle as it would be in contention to being a believer. Also in your closing hypotheticals about stabbing an animal and bleeding them... In OT God required burnt offerings but we don't do that now because Jesus died as the perfect sacrifice.

    • @VeganYak
      @VeganYak  Před 4 lety +8

Hey Joanna! 👋 Thanks for watching and for your comment. My question back would be how does loving your neighbor bring glory to God? As mentioned in the video Jesus said the second greatest commandment was to love your neighbor as yourself. I would politely suggest researching what is happening to our brothers and sisters as a result of animal agriculture so it’s not just me saying it. But our decision to consume animals especially on the scale it is now hurts our brothers and sisters and I don’t think that brings glory to God. Workers getting PTSD, nearby communities largely populated with people of color and low income getting diseases, people dying of our number one killer heart disease, food and resources being wasted contributing to the starvation of certain populations, causing pandemics like coronavirus and other diseases like mers, sars, Ebola, mad cow disease, h1n1, avian flu, etc that are causing a ton of suffering and death can’t be what Jesus meant by living thy neighbor. So my answer would be because by going vegan you are acting out of love for your neighbor like Jesus did and said to do and sacrificing your selfish desires. That’s how it would bring glory to God. How does killing Gods creatures unnecessarily for our taste pleasure while simultaneously causing more suffering to humans and destroying our planet bring glory to God. I don’t think it does. To answer the other couple of points. Being vegan is not in contention to being a believer. It is in alignment for the reasons I bring up in the video and in this comment. And if Jesus was the perfect sacrifice and because of that he ended animal sacrifice then why are we still killing them if we don’t need to. Again especially if we know what we do about how terrible it is for humans, the environment, our health, and for the animals. Thanks again for watching and for your thoughts! 💚🌱

This is a great question. I think there are lots of ways a vegan lifestyle brings glory to the kingdom of God. With regards specifically to spreading the gospel, one way is through promoting the health benefits of eating a whole-food plant-based diet, helping people to become healthy. This is similar to medical missions, in which medical professionals cure people's illnesses. In both cases, the people who are helped are then far more receptive to the gospel.

Eating animals is not a sin. It is viewed as unethical, but we have free will. It is much better for us to eat plants as it is our original dietary plan. After men's sin, we did a lot of things we were not designed to do. We should focus on repentance and the Gospel.

Hey man - Incredible video! I researched this for a couple years actually and made a website about it. I finally got around to making a video compiling all this information last month and got it posted. Can't believe I'm just finding your video now, but we hit on all the same points! I think you will really enjoy my video as well as we seem to be quite like-minded regarding our interpretation of the views, and I'll add a few more for you! Hosea 2:18 states that killing animals will be banned in the future - this future is talking about the same time as God's Holy Mountain that you reference in Isaiah, so not only will all animals be "vegan" at this time, humans will as well! Further, Ecclesiastes 3:18 and Genesis confirm that animals and humans have the same breath of life and spirit (Ruwach and Nephesh in Hebrew) and it's just as likely that animals will go to heaven as it is that humans will, according to the Bible! Otherwise, in heaven we can see that it's described as "Eden Restored" in Revelations 22 - A couple other points, you had mentioned Daniel I believe eating plant-based against meat-eaters and coming out stronger and more spiritual - This also happens in Exodus/Numbers, God offers people manna (which is also described as angelic bread and is more literally a white sap stuff you get from trees more in the middle east) and they chose to eat Quail instead and were struck down with the meat between their teeth.
I also touch on Romans and not only that, but I respond to the parts of Romans, Timothy, and Corinthians that anti-vegans commonly use against vegans - as these verses calling people eating plants "weak" was referring to Jewish peoples' faith as they didn't believe Christ's sacrifice was enough and that the meat was offered to idols, and Timothy is speaking about False Asceticism, which also includes banning marriage, so not talking about vegans at all.
I also mention why Jesus ate fish, how it related to prophecies he had to fulfil and how this wasn't actually his first choice, and how he doesn't explicitly eat meat at the Last Supper in any of the four accounts, besides being "Eager to partake in the lamb" in Luke's account. Otherwise, Jesus's brother James the Just was definitely an early Christian vegetarian (considered vegan by today's standard) and the Bible would likely be more clearly vegan slanted had he not died in martyrdom like Jesus, allowing Paul to be the vessel through which most of the new testament was written.
I think that's about all I can remember in summary of my video - check it out if you have time - I subscribed to your channel and it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance through this comment - Great work with this video and awesome visuals by the way!

Mainly because when in Genesis 1:29: God said, "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit; they shall be yours for food." It was only when sin entered the world that the eating of animals began.
