Cus was ALREADY a legendary trainer before Mike. He didn't have to take him in. But he did. Respect
Cus did have to take him in.. he saw the raw power and unrefined skill , cus wanted 1 more champion under his tutelage as his legacy. They were meant to cross paths and cus was meant to take mike in.

Cus was a very special person, I love these old videos.Mike kept him alive through competition and being his only son.a broken kid from Brownsville BK.The love they all shared was really incredible the dedication he showed to Mike and Mike always wanted to make Cus proud.Cus will always be proud of his son

Everytime I see their interactions with each other it makes me ball it’s like you can see Mike happy to please pops and pops was so proud this wasn’t just boxer trainer this was old king and CROWNED PRINCE.

Cus and Mike’s relationship is 1 and 1 trillion, the odds of that kind of father figure, mentor, trainer and Friend is nearly impossible i would’ve loved to see how much more incredible mike would’ve been if cus lived a little longer and Mike stuck with him instead of Don King. I feel like he would’ve broken Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record i fell like Cus would’ve kept mike in check he could’ve been even greater than he is now. Bless them both
I don’t think Mike would’ve ever lost until way later in his career if Cus was around. He was a totally different person and fighter after Cus moved on to the other side.

Cus was a boxing genius. I saw a clip where him and Ali were playing. He didn’t have the power to hurt Ali but he SURE-AS-HELL bad the moves. And Mike was the perfect student. Believe it or not.. Floyd and Gervonta are the same way.

R.I.P. Cus D'Amato. Thank you for believing in "Iron" Mike Tyson and teaching him how to be the greatest boxer of my era. It's because of Mike Tyson that I stood up to the bullies in my class. Because I know he's around my height and was fearless against opponents. He's one of my biggest role models of my life.
There’s something about clips similar to this. I get all chocked up when the realization comes that we have lost someone so precious and valuable. Any life is valuable but there are those the stand out more than others. At least for me that’s what I think.
