Just a careful thought: you being influencers carry some level of social responsibility too. Calling out for “Brahmin NRIs” is a casteist statement to make since the entire country is struggling with this sick mentality since ages and you saying it so blatantly as if nothing is wrong with it, makes an impression on a lot of people. There are people, ngos, intellectuals struggling to erode this caste system and humiliation from our country, calling out newspapers commercials which simply put out casual castiesm and racism out there asking for “Brahmin, fair girls”.
And people who’re defending this by saying they have a choice to choose a specific life partner, Ma’am and sirs, It is not about “having to make a choice while choosing a life partner”. You’re equating caste to something as simple as a job/ personality/ money. Everything of which can be changed, but choosing a particular caste excludes everyone who falls outside its ambit. And I’m sorry but it is casteism. Casteism is not just discriminating a person from any other lower class, it also means making an unnecessary fixed boundary which disallows people to be at the same pedestal as the other castes. You can like tall boys or short or cool or bad, that’s a part of one’s personality but when you choose caste, it is casteist cz caste is not something people can change, it is something that is inherited and unfortunately looked down upon and this is exactly what makes “choosing a caste” problematic. I won’t explain further, just this example.
Imagine if I say “ get me a nice boy. Fair boys only ”.
This example does not suffice but I still hope you get it, cz our society is so normal with being casteist, that we often forget that casual casteism is casteism too.
And Sorry but Please be cautious while you simply spray statements here. Remember Yuvika being arrested after she mentioned a casteist slur in her video which she thought was okay and funny to say. Of course these girls did nothing of this sort and I don’t expect that sort of insensitive behaviour from them but it’s just something they need to learn too before they make this casual or normal in front of their viewers. Caste affects a major chunk of our society in ways most of us aren’t even aware of. People are lynched, many die just because they belong to a particular caste and the others belonged to a “supposed” higher caste ( something that binds us to desire people from this so called high caste as in the video) and this happens even today. Don’t make this so casual as if it is humour for you. This is casual casteism and just because we have normalised it in our day to day lives, it is not okay or normal. Everyone loves your content here but Please be cautious. This is how we as a woke society learn and unlearn the wrongs we’ve been taught in the name of “casual”.
I don't believe they will actively discriminate against anyone, but they are quite casteist it's evident from their videos and the problem is they are oblivious to this and don't understand that they are wrong
