Heads up , depending on your town water supply, it may only contain Chlorine, and not Chloramines, If it is only treated with Chlorine, you can let your water sit in an open container (no lid) for roughly 24 hrs and the chorine will evaporate out, so basically you don't even need the Chorine Treatment bottle. Call you local water treatment centre if your curious about whats in your tap water. :)

The tank turned out awesome and the frogs are adorable! I've built a bunch of enclosures with the spray foam/silicone/substrate backing and learn something new each time. Really mashing in the dirt into the thickly applied silicone is super important. Also, if you get a dispensing gun that screws on to the bigger cans of spray foam, you won't need to use an entire can (or throw away what you don't use). The nozzle's not too expensive and more than pays for itself pretty quickly.

Used PVC piping, great stuff, and metal screening, paint and aquarium sealant to seal the waterfall from top to bottom. The one side was the waterfall 2' x 4' with a reservoir at the bottom and sand box for Halloween crabs on the bottom. It was for my chameleon. Really fun to build, Cost about 250 to build. Top opened as well as 2' of the front.

@@halodp9161 Go check out New England Reptiles video correcting Alex. He has yet to rebuttal. He also just made a video today explaining that 1/10 of the reptiles that are sent to him die in transit. Alex loves reptiles so he hoards them. Sells them and particularly profits of showcasing by way of CZcams the unboxing and care mistreated animals.
I personally don’t see how his distain for Petsmart, Petco, Reptile Expos, etc. is any different than the mild criticisms he receives for substantially profiting from receiving and shipping. It is educational for those who get in over their heads but he does the same by acting as an Ark, yet, he criticizes those who have decades of amazing expertise the likes of which he hasn’t even sook to look into.
Alex should contact at the least Brian Barczyk or NERD by the same standard we should be as nice to him, no?
SerpaDesign or Kamp Kenan or Chandler’s Reptile Room or Dāv Kaufman or Clint’s Reptiles and many others use their wherewithal to visit and learn from each other humbly. They don’t criticize snarkily other content creators and strangers without putting forth their best efforts in an exemplary manner.
Clint just did for instance. Misinformation will be up to you to investigate by seeking out contradictory informers on CZcams, lest you just be loyally bias!
The evidence for me is that in his inability to setup a vivarium, i.e., without going overboard (e.g., on price/time/resources wasted, using a swords and big knives instead of acquired basic crafts/hardware tools, needing much talents/help from friend to get a profession outcome).

Since CZcamsrs rarely comment after the first bit that they release a video, and you seem to be someone to ask. Are these good beginner frogs? How about dart frogs? I know someone that wants to get little frogs, she mentioned dart frogs once I said that domestically bred darts have little to no poison since it's assumed to be mostly if not all attributed to their diet in the wild. Has Clint ever done a video on whether the darts or the SNR frogs are good pets, to your knowledge?

@@amandastakeonit7402 I'm unaware if he's done a video. I can say Darts are easy and enjoyable pets, without hesitation. Feeding often and building a proper setup can be tricky, but if you do your research? Gold. Reed frogs are like a mix between
tree frogs and dart frogs. They want a little of everything. So long as you can secure small feeder insects, and a proper (high humidity) setup with regular mistings I find them incredibly enjoyable.

Yeah I just made my 1st custom background for my T and yes, u have to lay the silicone on very thick then press it all in. I used an entire tube of silicone on a 10 gallon tank sized background and that was also with me going around many rocks I used. Just to give u an idea of how much you, or anyone needs. I also went thru an entire can of great stuff. Another tip... I built it all OUTSIDE of the tank, applying it to the correct measurement Styrofoam sheet that can then be siliconed to the back of enclosure when finished. This allowed me to make it 3D and avoid the ugly exposed sides of the layers showing thru the glass & all anyone can see on the back is the black backside of the Styrofoam sheet I used. I'm actually really proud of myself for my 1st attempt. I wanted it to look just like an exposed creekside bank, I used pieces of wild grapevine to look like exposed tree roots.

Future idea but those velcro with tape on the back you can by at most stores, can be put on the back where the foam fills. Then you can use the foam that will fill in the velcro which will support the weight and last almost forever.

When I built my most recent paludarium a couple of years ago, I stuck a piece of PVC pipe in the corner to run my pumps power cord through and then covered that and the background with expanding foam. I made a plug to go inside the pipe and match the background in order to prevent anything from getting inside the pipe (PVC Diameter only has to be big enough to retract the power cord through). Should you have a pump failure, It makes switching out pumps 100x easier. And everything is still hidden by the foam. I learned the hard way when the pump on one of my Paludariums had an internal failure and I had to tear out a large section of the background to get it out and the new one installed.

Great video, Clint. Next time you do one of these, ive got another method of attaching substrate that has been working really really well for me. Make the same mix you did here (eco earth, sphag moss and sand), get it good and wet, and then mix in a fair bit of gorilla wood glue. Mixed straight into the sunstrate, til it turns into a thick creamy slurry. Then just press it right to the background, either direct to glass or onto the carved expanding foam. It takes a little longer to dry but it comes out really well and seems to hold up much better than silicone, and provides a much better surface for plants to cling to.

Hands down agree that Josh's frogs is great. Been buying front them for years. Always great service and everything is always alive and healthy. Even the crickets. Side note, using vinegar as a cleaning of the tank before hand I have never had problems with foam coming off in high humidity enclosures. May help in future goes.

    Just a suggestion:
When you have the possibility to hide a tube (like in the cork bark), use it to run the pumps cables through that. (It should be wide enough for the power connector)
You can (and should) seal this tube with a blob of silicone on both sides so the animals cant get into them.
The reason is that If the pump for any reason malfunctions it can be replaced quite easily. If the power cables is behind all that foam and silicone you need to carve it out and redo it, which is a pain when you don't have a good space where your animals can stay for the time beeing.
But altogether i like it very much, please provide some updates in a couple months when stuff has grown on the moss :)

    • @Mindfucked
      @Mindfucked Před 3 lety

Those are usually built into the pump and can easily be replaced.

I found with the expanding foam, when ur done with it if u hold it upright and spray a blast of air to clean the straw out then u can cut off a piece of the straw to reuse the rest of it down the road.
