It is true that, at her best, she was exceptional. In about 8 or 10 films she was the equal of anyone you could name. However, she did a great many movies where she relied so much on exaggerated mannerisms that she seemed a caricature of herself. Barbara Stanwyck, Irene Dunne, Joan Crawford all gave great performances easily as good or better than Miss Davis. But their performances that were not absolute classics were still always good. Even Loretta Young, who was not known for great performances, always gave good solid performances. None of them were as bad as Bette Davis at her worst.
'She will be remembered as a GREAT actress. She was an absolutely beautiful woman when she was young. My mom and I used to watch her movies every Sunday afternoon. She was my mom's favorite actress. I admired her for standing up for what she thought was right.
Bette Davis was a beautiful talented icon and I don’t think will ever see someone like her ever again she is missed and well loved rest in peace Miss Davis
Her role in "The Nanny" (1965) is fantastic. Super creepy and tender at the same time. It is not a very known movie of hers, but she used to cite it as one of her best films.
I've shed a year watching this....😥 What a fantastic woman......adored her since I was a child... irreplaceable beautiful Bette Davis..one of a kind! R.I.P 🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️🙏😘🇬🇧
In the early 1970s, one night I ended up with a front row seat to "An Evening with Bette Davis", one of a series of retrospectives/Q&A sessions with Hollywood legends. "Baby Jane" was about all I knew about her going in, but during the lengthy film montage, I fell in love. Then she came out. And mesmerized the audience. From that night on, as I watched (and rewatched) so many amazing performances, I remember that night. And the thrill of being one of the lucky people in the front row, who actually got to shake her hand!
I started watching Bette Davis in TCM. I was impressed not only by her acting but also unlike most actresses, she constantly challenged herself by taking up all kinds of roles, the good, the bad, the beautiful and the homely characters. Often, I watch a movie just because of her.
I can't believe ONLY 2 Oscars! Shim SHAM Sharoo on the academy! She should have won the Oscar for Baby Jane like Nancy Kerrigan should have won the gold medal during the 94 Olympics! I wonder if her daughter regrets writing the book? I have no doubt that her father leaving her at 7 yrs old affected her entire life. No man was going to take advantage of her! She IS A PHENOMENAL ACTRESS!
I have only four DVDs and one of them is All About Eve. She should have won her third Oscar for that great film but, instead, that horrible Anne Baxter insisted she should be considered for the Best Actress award and they split the vote. Such a shame.
She is sure a Legend. My fav of all time is “ WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE” Back in her time all the Ladies on film had to look beautiful. Bette played EVERY character from Alcoholic to a beauty Queen. She was the first to play an “ Ugly” role. What a #LivingLegend #Memories #PraiseOrBlameMyName #81 “ I would kiss 💋 you but I just washed my hair “ B Davis
I think Bette was super beautiful when she was in her prime! There is something about her beauty that I can't put in words! Whenever I tell other younger people how much I loved those actresses from the 30's and 40's, Bette Davis is always the first actress that pops into my mind! She was born in 1908 by the way, not 1901 like it showed here at the 6:32 mark.
Please send all of Bette Davis' films on DVD to me so I can watch all of them. If I get duplicates, that's fine, I'll gift them to needy friends of Miss Bette Davis.
She was attractive but she did not rely on it like some women she had a strong personality and a sharp wit and wanted that to be more memorable than just how she looked probably because she knew how disposable actresses are if they have nothing but looks to offer. Baby Jane was sort of a parody of that the aging child star and how ridiculous it is to try and stay young forever.
Betty Davis was a talented actress and put emotion and what she did. All her movies she dress for the theme of the movie in Weston are glamor, this is what made her being that he gave us Betty
Because she was told she wasn't pretty like the other actress of the day. I think her strength outshined her looks, whereas other actresses were more demure which may have softened their looks? MEN!
❤ She Took Those Roles Because It Was A Paycheck- ❤ I once asked Angela Lansbury how did you play that role in GasLight ? She responded back to me saying: Well R, we needed the paycheck! ❤❤❤
Bette Davis also stayed here in Bloomington, Indiana, one time. I think it was in 1959. I"m not sure what brought her here, maybe a stop while traveling by train.
Bette Davis was truly a national treasure of Hollywood!! I think of current female stars like Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Sophia Vergara & Katie Holmes as somewhat "Modern Day Bette Davis'!" But nobody will ever be able to match the lasting legacy that Bette has! Same thing with Jimmy Stewart!... I think of people like John Travolta, Jason Statham & Robert Downey Jr yet none of them could ever be a match for true Hollywood originals! John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, Don Rickles, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis etc are all the foundations of what Hollywood is today! Literally "The Founding Fathers" of Hollywood! And Bette Davis, "The Queen B Of Hollywood!!!"
10 packs a day is bad for your health. I read a story where she was once arrested when she was young and complained to the officer that she only got 3 packs a day instead of her normal 10.
I never understood why Hollywood would label actresses they all had their special thing about each of them. You always said Joan Crawford with much prettier then Betty Davis. I don't agree with this statement Joan Crawford wasn't all that pretty. Betty David was beautiful her eyes were breathtaking she had talent an excellent acting
She was the greatest actress of all time-- the gold standard. My absolute favorite.
Oh certainly, right behind Joan Crawford!
Agreed.
HA! You haven't seen my ex in family court !
Absolutely!

She was fucking beautiful in her younger days. It’s a shame she didn’t think so because of the public eye
Still my fave.
WHAT A DUMP! BUMPY NIGHT! I love everything she does.
I think Bette was super beautiful when she was in her prime! There is something about her beauty that I can't put in words! SHE NEVER THOUGHT SHE WAS PRETTY SHE WAS. WHEN PEOPLE GET OLD SOME CHANGE.

Bette Davis and Joan Crawford they do not get any better than that!!
Really the worst mothers on earth 😂
I agree - love Bette and Joan.❤️❤️❤️
@@FABULOSA2213 I highly doubt that. They had and have lots of competition still to this day with lousy motherhood.
I would have loved to see her and Katherine Hepburn in a movie together. Also think her and Barbara Stanwyck would have been great together.
They liked each other. Barbara and Bette. Wrote letters to one another. But, hell everyone loved Ms. Barbara!
Truly great actress, ❤Betty davis
Now Voyager ❤️
My Favorite Actress ❤️
I never understood why she wasn't considered conventionally attractive. She was stunning in her youth and only got better with age, if you ask me!
Because she was told she wasn't pretty like the other actress of the day. I think her strength outshined her looks, whereas other actresses were more demure which may have softened their looks? MEN!
Oh please go wipe yo butt
OMG She was all the way through BEAUTIFUL!!!!
❤ She Took Those Roles Because It Was A Paycheck- ❤

Oh my darling Bette you were so beautiful a awesome actress & personality of a survivor
Did you know that Bette Davis once visited the small town of Cuba, Missouri for lunch on a road trip west?
Bette Davis also stayed here in Bloomington, Indiana, one time. I think it was in 1959. I"m not sure what brought her here, maybe a stop while traveling by train.
Icon I see some of my personality in her and I have only just started looking into her amazing career I can’t help but be amazed

👑
Margo Channing was not HAUGHTY. She was DIGNIFIED.
I found her in a early merrie melody cartoon.
Heavy lies The Crowns
"she was 81 years old" with "1901-1989" on the screen...what?!
Betty Davis grave is France where she died at 81 American White European Actress
