    I had the same issue. The ground pin was burnt. Thanks to your video, I saved more than $500.
    Looks like we don't have to change the plug, the brown ground plug is anyway not connected when you rip the metal plate from its connection at 18:42. We can just extend the brown ground wire to the metal plate through the white cap with all the existing parts.
    $0 in cost. Just some time to do it.
    Thanks again.

    Great video putting this all together! I wish this was around when I was fixing my tail light a few years ago. ANYONE else doing this fix should read the rest of my comment!
    BUT looking at how you did it, you DON'T NEED to buy a NEW bulb socket or socket repair kit. You can use your existing/old socket/housing and just buy only the female quick disconnect and 14 gauge wire. Simply expose the brown (ground wire), and connect that ground to the white wire that you bought and run it like you did in the rest of the video, connecting the white cable to the metal tab you pried up.
    The part at 17:38 where you pried up the metal piece, that is the male connector that would have otherwise connected to your newly made brown/ground connection. So pulling that metal tab up makes the earlier socket repair/repinning process pointless unless when the pin got burned and melted that it damaged the adjacent pins. You would save yourself some money and extra steps.

    Mine was finicky, and the brake lamp malfunction error would throw during the hot months. It got worse,,although the tail lights were working just fine. I opened up the harness, and the cables were intact (not melted/shorted like here). I just unplugged the main connection, cleaned around the connection, and reconnected. Worked fine. Moral: Don't order parts till you open it up and look at it.

    • @tirolekubu8578
      @tirolekubu8578 Před 2 lety +1

      Yep. I had an intermitent warning too. I assumed it was this melted housing and connector issue. When it became permanent, i assumed it was completely burned out. Got the kit from the dealer only to discover that it was just the light bulb that was gone. Fortunately, the dealer took the parts back without enforcing thier 30% restocking fee.

When I was placing the light back on I tugged the cable too much and one of the wires came out of the socket. I taught I would need to but a new one and start all over again. I eventually opened it with a tooth pick! It's very straight forward, just a little groove that sits into a notch. Very helpful video

The ground connector burnt out so the rear tail light could not set up a proper connection. I had to buy a new outer tail socket and socket repair kit. In total, I spent more than $170 to fix it. Adding a thicker gauge wire and connecting the ground to the bulb socket should resolve the problem in the long run. I will try this out the next time one of my rear tail lights go out. This video was super helpful. I went out and bought the stuff just to do the grounding wire fix first instead of buying the new parts. However, I did some tests first. I switched the working light bulb from the right taillight to the left and it worked. Then I tried the the bulb from the left in the right taillight and it did not work. So obviously I’m thinking this is just a burned out bulb. I go buy the bulb put it in the original failed spot (left taillight) and to my surprise it does not work. This had me scratching my head. Then switched the working light from the right side again back to the left. Put the new bulb into the right taillight and now everything works fine. I suspect something is going on with the connector and I fully expect the left to fail again at some point. I see no evidence of a melted wire in the terminal but when it goes bad again I have all the stuff ready.

    I watched the whole video, please don't do this, this is a crap fix.
    1st off doing this method you could simply save the money on the new connector as all he is doing by adding that 14 gauge wire is bypassing the pin he rewired.
    2nd if the wire was truly the problem this wouldn't be a permanent solution as you are taking a 14 Guage wire and simply splicing it in to a smaller wire so if the smaller wire was the problem this would not change anything.
    My guess is, is the metal they used to make the circuit and the pin is the culprit and is probably to small to withstand the amps from those halogen bulbs, if you got the lci lights or you switched the halogens to led would most likely be a better long term solution, as you won't be drawing as much amperage and melting that pin.

And now I own another one BMW 328i 3serie it has the "WORST" German engineer on the Planet flaw design Number one an electrical failure on Earth. Check engine light come on permanent. ( Japan car is the best reliability period. ) Say good bye to BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagens, Audi, these European expensive CAR are Worthless. I stick to Ford, GM, .Chrysler, Buick, Chevolete, and stick to all Japan cars. I own one 2012 Nissan Murano 3.5 Liter V6 about 8 years now I only have one front turn signal light bulb went out that it !
