    Wow Kaye - what an awesome collection! And in true Kaye fashion, she stores them in their original boxes inside a much larger box. The black button with the off white lady bust reminds me of my lady head vase collection - so pretty. When you pulled out the sewing kit that was in your sewing machine drawer from another lady it gave me hope that one day someone will find and potentially use my collection of sewing material, thread, yarn, buttons, etc. You are so right - we can't take it with us. Have a blessed week and great video..

    I really like the idea of some type of artistic display. And some could easily be adapted to jewelry, brooches, ear rings, necklaces. That big one could be a belt buckle.

    Very cool collection. I had no idea buttons could be so pricey. Those heart shaped buttons from Hawaii are made from coconut shell. I have hundreds of button blanks (no holes or decorative work) made from Tennessee River mussel shells, from a no longer existing button factory, that I picked up at a flea market 40 years ago. They look kind of like mother-of-pearl. I have used a few over the years in my gourd art.

    I love buttons, my mom had large plastic jars full of buttons....my sisters and I used to dump them out on the bed and just look at them. We did that many times for entertainment when we were children. Buttons are awesome. Thank you for showing your unique collection. What an awesome video; I thoroughly enjoyed it. My favorite are the green glass and pearl buttons.😊❤

    Kay you are such a creative soul. Your buttons are just beautiful. When you talk about Art Deco and Bakelite you’re speaking my language. The incredible detail that was put into buttons back then was amazing. As a fellow seamstress I truly appreciate you sharing your collection with us. Your sweater is gorgeous as well! Take care.

    What a beautiful collection of buttons along perfect music selection. I believe 46:56 is to be sewn on the end of a collar for a dress , cuff, or cape. I see these on Mardi Gras costume. As for this collection, can’t you turn them to earrings or necklaces, like the big single metal button? Ms. Kaye, I’m speechless… this is amazing. Thank you for sharing.

    Beautiful collection Kaye! The details on some are amazing. They are small works of art. I too have a button collection but mine are loose and in a tin like my mom always kept hers. My mom would sew many of our clothes, so she never threw out a button. Some of my buttons are quite old but usually only one or two of each.

    No worries, I have a box I moved here from Virginia to Maryland about 11 years ago and I haven’t opened it yet. Obviously there isn’t anything important in it as I’ve survived these years w/o whatever is in there. Regarding the kitty paw prints. We had many cats throughout my childhood, my father tolerated them and but he would get so angry when he found kitty paw prints marked all over the windshield of his car!

    What a lovely collection!! I do have to say that people do get ripped off in NY. I can't believe you would pay $250.00 for 4 buttons. But then you have designers that will pay that price because they put them on the over priced clothes that they make and they get their money back. It was kind of like when I went into the stores at Art Deco in Miami Beach. A dress for $5k that looked like it was made at the 5 and dime. If you wanted good quality then it was $10K to 20K. I always thought what a waste and what a gimmic. Your sweaters are BEAUTIFUL. What a talented lady. Now that would be worth paying some money for. It was so much fun watching you open each box. It was like watching a little girl on Christmas. I truly enjoyed the close ups at the end and the music was enchanting and relaxing. I did some research for you and ONE of the most valuable is the cellulose. They recommend you contact an appraiser to get the real value and not to sell until you know what you have.
    I once cleaned a home for a very very wealthy lady. I was paying my way through college. She came home with a wooden chair. The chair was painted black with gold flecks. She paid $5 K for that chair. I told her she was crazy!!! I went home and painted a black chair just like the one she had. I also got some gold paint with REAL gold in it. I took the brush and dipped it into the paint and spattered the chair. I had a 5K chair for $25.00. True story. Looked IDENTICAL to hers. She was shocked. I told her I could have made her one and she could have paid me the 5K.
    Anyway, thanks for sharing and take a day to do research to find the value of your treasures. I had fun and learned about my lovely VERY OLD collection of antique canning jars. It's fun and relaxing.

    Well, all those buttons sure need a glorious outfit to be displayed on. Ever think of selling them to the highest bidder on Ebay or something? I'm making ginger snap cookies today with Einkorn wheat flour. At least one ingredient besides the ginger will be healthy. LOL Ginger snaps are so nice with a cup of tea.

    Well because we have had 2 days at 70F I have now seen 2 small grasshoppers. I did see a web site for a well-known Oregon nursery who's daughter has a prominent gardening CZcams site, they suggest a Cedar oil type spray that they indicate may be a good deterrent for the grasshoppers. I may try it. I cannot have a third year of that infestation. I also will cover my raised beds and my pots and planters as possible with insect tule netting! Not playing around any longer with pest control. I am an organic gardener. I gave up on sewing in 8th grade. In 7th Grade at my LAUSD Jr. High, the sewing teacher accused my of having my mother do the sewing work assigned for homework for me. Mom even saw the teacher and no-go about it and I got a poor grade. Very discouraged and never took up the craft again. Now, I regret my rash emotional decision. I have had a collection of 19th and early 20th Century buttons inherited from ancestors via Mom.

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Wonderful about your button collection! Sad about giving up sewing for lack of a supportive teacher. Today they would be pushing gender theory, so there's that. Goodo getting ahead of the grasshoppers. It would be heartbreaking to hear you had another destructive infestation this year. Much love.

    Do what you want and love, Kaye. As for writing cards, the kind sent in the U.S. Mail, many people enjoy those, even those young people that tend to text or whatever online.
