I must admit that deep frying a frozen turkey has never really crossed my mind.
I admit to having considered why one would not do that. :D
Clearly, you are not from the Deep South.
frying a turkey at all has never crossed my mind
I must admit, i would never have thought to fry a turkey period.
Not even frying a frozen chicken leg ! Duhhhhhh ?….
Gus : “allow me to introduce myself”
Exactly why I’m here💀
@@AriSellassie Same. I thought the explosion was unrealistic, but it seems I was wrong
@@ColdGrub1384 Still seems a bit unrealistic. I mean, the oil here catches fire from the gas burner (they even tell you to turn off the flame at 1:28). But in BCS the fryer has to be electric. I have doubts it would work the same without the open flame in the first place. Possibly just a lot of hot oil everywhere.
@@jakubvenclovsky1632 Oil will absolutely ignite on a hot electric element (don't try this on your stove at home)
Trying to figure out how the restaurant exploded…now I know
Saw this happen first hand, there may or may Not have been alcohol involved, but that turkey took off like a minute man missle, never did find the damn thing maybe it is still in orbit who knows anyway we had ham that year.
*"Maybe it is still in orbit"*
you sir have made my day
@@afox1689 Imagine being an astronaut in the International Space Station and you look out the window and see a burnt turkey go by. "Um, NASA, I think we have a problem here"
Tip No 1:
Don't fill yer freakin pot to the top with oil.
They say that tho 1:05
I want to I bad boy
tip #2 actually
Verbindungsfehle yet they still showed it full.
troy Chelsy then feel free to burn down your home while you’re at it
Love how the firefighters just drop it in and turn around and walk away like it's just another day at the office 😂
Because it is XD
They're like "Here we go again, another year, another 'drop a frozen turkey into a deep fryer' video."!😆
I’m very surprised at them turning their back on a fire, any fire.
You should also factor in displacement. Put your turkey in the pot, fill it with warm water. Remove the turkey, then mark where the water ends. From there, dry the entire pot *completely* and thoroughly, then repeat the process but with oil.
But keep the turkey wet.
@@noworriesmate5903 good point I completely missed. You should also pat the turkey dry as well.
@@EvenFlow391 I was really just kidding. I would hope people are smart enough to know that, but than again.
@@noworriesmate5903 That worry lmao
@@noworriesmate5903 I’m sure you’re real smart. A genius if you will. 😂
For those that have never tried it, fried turkey in peanut oil is absolutely the best tasting way to cook it. Just use stated precautions, correct timing for the size of the fully thawed bird, and correct amount of oil for the pot with the bird, then enjoy the best turkey you have ever experienced.
So we were going to fry a turkey this year for the first time... Went to Sams Club to buy the peanut oil. It was literally going to cost $90 after tax for the oil, triple the cost of the turkey.
So yeah, I'm smoking the turkey this year instead.
@@jsb2277b That price is too high, my sister got 4.75 gallons for $70 at costco. I know Walmart is $50 for 3 gallons. It's not cheap but the oil is high quality and you can re-use it for other cooking needs.
@starfield1874 it's true peanut oil doesn't burn as easy as veg oil and can be reused many more times😊
My father-in-law does this yearly. IMO it's good, but not great.
what do you prefer @@kevinmiller6009
They didn't take the plastic hanger off in the last clip. Always discard all plastic before you fry.
All this video proves is that firemen don't know how to fry a turkey.
jonceti They're preparing the turkey wrong on purpose to demonstrate what not to do.
@@TokensArcade Thanks, Einstein. Where would we be without you?
Ahahahahahahaha!
Lololol
Damn bro i thought there was a fly on my screen 🤓
This video was recommended to me to help explain a scene in _Better Call Saul._ Perfect.

So, who's here after Better Call Saul's latest episode?
Came here because i didnt understand how gus blew up los pollos hermanos. Now i do
Yeah that first demonstration, right by a damn tree! Real smart!
Tis the season.
Sorry Greta
Good thing there were firefighters nearby
lmao
Fire fighters aren’t scientists
I ever tell you about the time Keith tried to deep fry a turkey? Third degree burns over ninety percent of his body. His doctor called up, like, other doctors to look at him cause they'd never seen burns on top of existing burns
ok
Now's not the best time, Ellis.
I was hoping I'd see this.
Secretary: "Who are you?"
Fletch: "I'm Keith's boss."
Secretary: "Who's Keith?"
Fletch: "My turkey fryer."
why u talking like u know us
Gustavo Fring had a bad Thanksgiving
The question is - once you put the fire out, can you still eat the turkey?
that’s up to you.
crispy is good
You could throw a room temp brick into that fryer and it would still go up like that. You filled it to the top with oil. it was overflowing before the turkey started to steam.
the music makes this seem like you're fighting a frozen turkey themed dark souls boss
I love how the establishing shot at 0:15 jump cuts straight to the climax with a title covering the action.
It's funny that I saw this years ago before Better Call Saul, and when I was watching what Gus was doing, I thought of this right away.
2 rules 1 never fill pot with oil all the way full u can add more oil if needed. 2 always turn fire off when putting in the turkey .
Looks like fun! Thanks for the info.
Deep frying a flightless bird is such a uniquely human experience
0:20 that guy looks like he walked away from an explosion just like in the movies
Yea a frozen turkey can cause a fire and is dangerous but I think the majority of the issues in this video is the overflow of the oil.
No, it because the turkey is frozen. The ice layer is made out of water and it reacts violently in oil. That’s why you dry out the defrosted turkey so excess water doesn’t cause a reaction.
Exciting...meals served in a burning instant!!
Great video all!!
Thank you, This American Life
I'm just impressed someone actually turned their turkey into a mushroom cloud.
You can't tell me what to do, i'll deep fry a turkey shaped ice sculpture if i wanted to
I will. You can not stop me.
Happy Thanksgiving 2022 For Safety on to cook the Turkey on the oven do not put a Temperature of 500 Degree on Maximum or other wise it cause to burn the house from the oven
Aside from the fact that the pot is obviously over filled, I don't think I've ever thought about boiling a frozen turkey.
turn off flame while putting in Turkey should be flashing in bold letters the whole time
was it not noticeable for you on thanksgiving mr jokes ? did u burn down a house
My daddy such a professional at this... he deep fry his turkeys right in his kitchen
But the exposion looks sooooooo cool!
The use the oven keep it at a low Temperatures under 300 degrees to cook the Turkey
0:05- "Now I have become Death, destroyer of worlds."
I remember when Alton Brown recommended frying a turkey. I felt there was something fundamentally off with the whole idea, but it never really bubbled up to the top of the morass of stupid that my mind is. Years pass, and then this... yeah, thank dog our folks don't get frozen ones.
There goes next year thanksgiving plans
"How to make a mini almost harmless nuclear bomb in your backyard"
I was not olanning to..like ever but now that you mention it...
0:29 not quite “steam” causing it to overflow
From what I could see all of them had overfilled the pot with the oil. Leaving no room for displacement. Hence the fireball when the oil came pouring out!
The ice will cause it to turn to steam, which expands in volume 1700 times. So even if it weren’t overfilled, that expansion alone would cause the oil to spill over.
Gotta love that mushroom cloud
This video really speaks to the non common since people out there. Why would anyone with common since fry a frozen turkey? Or put a frozen turkey in a full pot of cooking oil?
The fact this needs to be a vid shows why natural selection is needed
Can I know which video editing application do you use?, It would be really helpful
Insightful
Check out the beautiful mushroom cloud at 0:06 !
Ive never ate fried turkey looking at this doubt ill try it unless its jyst amazing
I ever tell you about the time my buddy Keith tried to deep fry a turkey? 3rd degree burns over 90% of his body. His doctor called up like other doctors to come look at him cuz they aint never seen burns on top of existing burns.
These are never go wrong tips especially turning off gas BEFORE slowly dropping the bird into the vessel. Resume flame on.
i know this is a warning not to do it, but now i want to do it more
My dad wants to do this because he's one of those Canadians who really wants to be American and this is considered a Very American Thing in my part of Canada
Recorded horizontally:)
That's why you always cut the burner off when putting the turkey in. Then relight it when it's in.
I'm that guy that never buys turkey for Thanksgiving
this shit saved my life thanks for the video
Can we do this for New Year’s!
I want to do this now
*How is this Tech Insider?*
Gustavo Fring
I needed a good Laugh!
Does it taste good tho, we normally bake out turkey like normal but if I can blast fry it with positive results then I might just do that, and I got a nice open field I could do it in without anything flammable.
It tastes better and also juicy
I would add don’t keep the number to State Farm in the same general area as where you are cooking.
Interesting video.... Does anyone know the names (or album) for the two pieces of music used in this video's soundtrack?? Please...
What about having the deep~fryer 1/2 full of oil. When it is up to temperature, put the turkey in, THEN add oil to JUST cover the turkey?
to easy to spill, and you still have hot oil to deal with
No turkey Was harmed during this demonstration
My question did it burn or fully cooked ?
The firemen didn't observe their own rules. In each demonstration case they overfilled the pot with oil just to ensure a spectacular fire..
that was an A++ decision on the music
B.L.E.V.E sounds like some super special move from an anime
I'm just now learning people deep fry Turkeys??? That has to be the most American thing I've ever heard of
DO YOU BLEVE IN MAGIC, IN A HOSPITAL BED???
Wow that's crazy
lol the background music made it look like a lord of the rings
Only in America: Hold my beer, I'll put that frozen bird in there for super fast cookin'! KABLOOEY!!!
What if you turn the burner off when putting the turkey oil the hot oil
Question. Wouldn't a thawed turkey do the exact same thing for the exact same reason?
so does the turkey not taste good or something?
The tree: Ahhhhh that’s lit
Did they eat the turkey after or not
Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Please stay alert.
Please, please, please - what is the name of the music after 0:50?
We used to have frozen turkey corn hole if you made it in the hot oil you got a real prize!!!!!
For a second I though I was watching SPACEX videos got to realize that was thanksgiving meal

Cool
I knew a fella who gone ahead and done put an ice hard bird in the grease. Unfortunately he when the oil went up fast he burned his face.
Take out the plastic “pop up” thermometer before submerging into the oil.
Never put a can of unopened condensed soup in the fireplace. Freaking BOOM. Now everything's on fire.
Boiling liquid expanding vapor sounds like a yugioh card name
He did a oppsie doopsie
So 8s the turkey edible?
Do they still eat the turkey at least?
The thumbnail made me think there was a nuclear explosion
Okay but this just makes me wanna do this for funsies
