The reason the stock G.50 cockpit has the gun sight--and hence the pilot's viewpoibt--set so low is to hide the gap on the upper cowling due to the non inclusion of an additional 3D mesh as part of the cockpit. This greatly compromises the sight picture, limiting the amount of lead you can apply in much of a positive G turn. In such game versions as B.A.T., the cockpit includes this cowling section. This then permits to locate the upper part of the sight at a more realistic height. Years ago I made up my own San Giorgo Tipo B sight, offering it in 3 variations whereby the upper sight section had different heights. The real device had a pair of vertical rails that allowed to slide the reflector section upward to the desired height. With an appropriate height, along with the pilot's viewpoint being raised accordingly, this makes for a MUCH better view for gunnery, and general looking around over the cockpit sill.

Wow, man that is such a detail I am amazed. It looks like it is very simplified in IL-2. Thank you for such detailed insight.
That is not a HUD, it is an optical gunsight, technically, a HUD gives navigation, airspeed, altitude, attitude and weapon aiming cues and a reticle
Thank you for your explanation. I wasn't able to find proper words to describe that device. Something like a colimator on a rifle.
no kills no medals? 😁😁😁
this game looks amazing and your skill is higher with every mission 😁😁😁
No medals in single missions probably. Will see once I start the career.
