I had a boy. He wasn't too affectionate. However, I loved him very much anyway. He was neutered. He loved to sleep next to me during the summer and on top of me during the winter. He let me pet him all I wanted, while sleeping. I miss him a lot😢❤

For the most of my life I had male cats and since we lived in the countryside, they were roaming around and neither of them were fixed. They were the most loving cats vs females. When we moved to a city, we got a female cat and had her fixed. She was strictly an indoor cat. She had a very serious character, hated nearly every visitor we had with extremely rare exceptions of 2 people in her 13 year life span (she died 2 months ago from cancer). Since she had quite an angry personality, we got a male cat this time, fixed. Oh boy he is crazy! We start our morning by collecting items of his size and smaller all over the house. I must say he is too playful. Kicks everything off of every surface, jumps all over us, harassing and abusing our 110 lb 4yo dog. He is very demanding. But at the same time he is very affectionate. Our female cat has never been like this. If he decided to get on your laps for some love time, you have no option to refuse. He is like a bull that keeps coming and coming at you to hug and lick you to death. Especially in the middle of the night when you are trying to sleep, tickling you with his enormous whiskers lol. He is a lot of fun and also quite a handful. Destroyed all of the house plants and curtains, constantly chewing on wires. We are scared to leave him unattended when going to work.

@@annapatton4544 the cats who lived outside were in their natural environment. They were happy. Maybe your indoor female cat was wise enough to know that she didn’t belong indoors, and it out her in a bad mood. Maybe you boy cat isn’t smart enough to know he’s a prisoner of another species?
I feel sorry for cats and dogs, even though I loooove them. I feel sorry for them, because they don’t belong indoors. They have such amazing potential that is wasted by living indoors. And so many of them are alone so much time, imprisoned, waiting for their human being to come home.
These are amazing creatures, and they belong in the wild. Human beings are so dysfunctional, and we imprison these animals to help us deal with our own loneliness, we use them as a form of therapy.

Every cat is so different. I've had cats most of my life, usually two or three at a time. The only behavioral consistency I've seen is that males do tend to be more casual while females usually tend to be more careful. They are very much like people in that way. But I've known females who were more adventurous and males who were timid. I think their personalities and early experience play major factors in this.

I owned a male American Shorthair that had been a street cat, got to the shelter at 3-5 years old, got neutered and I picked him. As he was already grown he had all his claws. He was huge, 13 pounds of climbing beast. He had a torn ear, didn't spray, was affectionate with me, and would take clues from me how to act with others. I bonded with him by brushing him every night in bed. He was mostly an indoor cat however, I picked up a small harness and a leash and would take him on walks. When he got tired walking I would put him on my shoulder. This when wearing a leather vest or denim jacket. He traveled well, liked going in the car on cross country trips. He liked catnip, didn't like other cats. He did not like loud noises. He caught mice. A couple times decapitating them and presenting them to me. He was good with the litter box.
He was health and strong for 13 years with me. He had a stroke, had problems eating, drinking, walking and went deaf. He was going to starve if I didn't put him down. I still sometimes miss him.
Pete was a good pet. Pete? Who names a cat Pete? Pete was all black. I got him home from the shelter and was wondering what to name him. I put on some music, Workingman's Dead. Song six came on, a blues tune, Black Peter. That's how he got his name.
At night he would climb up on my bed expecting to be brushed. I would pull a sheet over my face and say "Pete, where's my kitty?" and he would pull the sheet down and I would brush him.

Over the course of fifty years, I’ve had many male cats, all neutered. I loved them all, and thought I knew all about cat’s’ personalities. Then a few years ago I adopted a tiny female cat (spayed) and am still amazed at how different her personality is. She’s happy, very affectionate, and so gentle. No roughhousing like the guys all loved to do. No, she wants to be held, cuddled, combed and carried.
She has a very sensitive streak; the only time I ever yelled at her ( she was on the table), she literally ran away crying. She was troubled for hours afterwards. The males would not have cared, they would have given me the tail and sauntered off.
She’s smart and very obedient, and eager to please me. So unlike my cat before her, who was quite rebellious until maybe age 7.
No, she does not represent all female cats. I’d like to hear about the experiences of others.

Im constantly getting after her for being on the table. Bought a spray bottle for that exact purpose. The moment I grab it she darts off the table. She's constantly full of energy and when it comes to her food dish I'm the only one in the house she complains to when it's low or empty. Im also the only one she'll jump up on the lap of, lay down and fall asleep. She'll cuddle with the others in the house but nowhere near as much as she does with me. She also enjoys terrorizing the 9-10 year old Akita in the house whom just sits or lays there and takes it. Sometimes he plays back but not often and never when he realizes people are watching.

Ive learned in general regardless of male or female, a cat is more manageable if you get them fixed young. Plus with males it's a even less likely chance of them spraying. But males from my experience seem to be more likely to seek attention however the most efficient cat I've seen is a full grown female that sticks around my house. She'll stop doing whatever just to get attention and really use uer weight and size to push her way into taking all the attention. Pretty much shes a attentionslut and a half. She sticks around along with a few other cats because we feed them. We would let them inside but we have a female kitten which the female outside has tried to attack when she got in the house and the others are male cats that are unfixed and sprey everywhere outside so it wouldn't take long for them to do the same inside the house and we don't have the money to get them fixed.

Definitely found firsthand through my own cats and my kid’s cats that females are more aloof. The boys have been much more sociable to each other and to their humans. The females have hated their female cat housemates and the boys tend to buddy up. This is a small sample size and every cat is unique as far as their traits. I’m sure I could have different experiences with male/female but my default is to go with males. Especially love the wide cheek Toms.

My late cat, Bilbo, was male. He showed up at our door when he was a 6-month old (per the vet's estimate) stray. He was so affectionate. He loved my partner too much, to the extent that he died of a heart attack when my partner was away for weeks. He was so sweet, so playful and so whatever the best of the universe. We will never forget him. My current cat, Donna-Bella, is female. She was captured as a stray and given to us for fostering. The rescuer foisted her on us because she knew we would adopt her. She plays much less but is also affectionate. Overall, our male cat was more affectionate.

I have an older male cat, we joke that he's half tiger. He is big, and you can't trust him most of the time, but he takes care of sick cats, protects them, breaks up fights, and chases coyotes out of the yard. The second is my male cat is a soft, hold me all the time kitty. He can't hunt, or fight, he's my sweetie., but is very territorial, and won't let other cats near me. The last is a beautiful black female, she's aloof from me, but loves my mom, , and sister.

There are definitely profound differences between male and female cats, but I’m not really sure whether the strong points outweigh the weaker ones on one particular side. Males might be more playful, but they’re also more likely to act like jerks and pee on things. Females may be a bit more aloof and moody/temperamental, but I’ve also found that they’re more loyal and empathetic to the needs of their chosen human.
We have a good balance at the house where I’m living right now with my roommate - we have two females who are 15 and 16 years old respectively, and two males who are 3 and 8. It’s a really nice balance overall and somehow everyone gets along and manages to coexist under the same roof without too much fighting. There are definitely two main territorial “zones” dominates by each female in which the other one almost never strays, with a shared communal space in the middle that all four cats seem comfortable being in.

My recently-departed 8yo female cat, Chiyo, loved to play - she'd literally drag the stick/string toy over to me and make sure I knew it was there. She also loved to play fight. When she was a young adult, she'd run up behind my, leap and tap the back of my calves, then run away in a weird game of tag.
Very affectionate, and super smart - once caught her trying to open the pantry door because she knew the cat treats were in there. She must have been watching me use the door, so one night she got up on her hind legs and was trying to grip the doorknob with the front paws.. When she noticed me watching, she very slowly lowered herself to the floor, then just walked away with a "nothing to see here" kind of attitude. If that cat had thumbs, my usefulness would've been greatly diminished, I think.

I kinda think it depends on the breed of cats, regarding which gender is more friendly. I have a spayed, female tortoise-shelled mix who is very loving and a little playful with me. She used to cuddle with me at nights when I sleep. I had a male siamese mix who has always been super sweet, playful, and loving, and he was these things even before he got neutered. Every time I came home from college, he'd jump in my lap, play with me, by batting at my fingers while I was typing on the keyboard, and he'd fall asleep in my lap purring away.

What I really like about this breed is that they are usually one owner lovers. I see really no big difference between the male and female in their affectionate nature, perhaps because I have them spayed and neutered quite young. Also I’m the only person in the house besides them. When I had littermates males, their personalities were very different.

My female tortie is the territorial one and often there's a standoff between him and the tortie. My female tabby who is the oldest is more standoffish but that wasn't always the case. Originally, I had her and her brother as a bonded pair but he had to be put down after a short battle of kidney failure at 18 months. She wasn't the same kitty afterwards. The male is more playful (actually demands it), and amenable to being cuddled when *I* feel like it. The female is very affectionate too, but only on *her* terms (i.e., when *she* initiates it). I love them both, and got two so they can keep each other company when I’m out of the house. It works very well. They’re “best buds,” except when he’s feeling playful, and she’s not! When he’s getting too frisky for her, she gives him some “choice words!” But they never actually come to blows about anything.

She'd come in for affection and to rest but preferred patrolling the barn ours & neighbors fields. Flash forward my daughter came back and moved with her to Co. Being a self claimed "dog person" i never knew cats could be so loving. I did my research and have a 2 yr old neutered male liliac siamese (from the shelter!) He is strictly indoors and is so calm playful and loving! My husband even enjoys him despite him not pulling his weight around the house. He certainly makes up for it in spades with th3 affection comical things he does!

To get him to go out I have to tap on different areas I want him to go as well as on the door to remind him where the entrance is. Otherwise he will run into walls or doors.
He is happy roaming around outdoors but stays really close to the House. So when I call Mr Eye (yes, he ONLY has one Eye that has a cataract in it, and that is why he is 98% visually impaired), he comes running right away!

Personality & upbringing can be big factors. My grey Calico breaks a lot of stereotypes because her personality is more like a dog lol. She greets ppl at the door, purrs at the vet, has 24/7 play desire, postures with paws extended, and is just plain bigger at 12lbs vs 6-8 average.

Calicos might be the sweetest cats and overall most emotional cats, idk why, by my old female calico walked up to me on my back porch when I was 11, she was like 8 months old and just walked up out of nowhere and purred and wanted to be and asked for food, she definitely wasn’t anyones cat because she was very dirty and also pregnant, she almost didn’t survive the pregnancy and had to have surgery but appearently she loved the vets before and after, now she’s 14 and is still the same, she’s pretty damn stupid though,

My female cat cuddles with me but it took over 6 months to form the bond. It's because I treat her so good ❤

  • @JakeStar-oe9ev
    @JakeStar-oe9ev Před 7 měsíci +2

Alot of people lose any bond with the cat because they think they can discipline them like a dog. But if you try yelling or punishing a cat you only make it fear you, everything about bonding with a cat revolves around trust. That's why you always let the cat come to you. It took a month before my girlfriends cat bonded with me and now I know it's because I wasn't trying. But that first time ever that it happened, the cat came and layed down on me while I was sleeping. And from that day on I fell in love, and it's amazing how deep the bond became. Cats are highly intelligent and very loving and loyal it just takes time. Which in my opinion makes the bond all the more real.

I think the only reason why I wouldn't want a male cat is due to the spraying they do. We've got a few strays that we feed outdoors, but the sad thing is that these cats are very friendly and they appear to be once owned by humans. They allow us to pet them. It's a shame with owners throw away their pets and toss them outdoors. It's cruel.

My female kitty loves to play and cuddle. She follows me around everywhere i go. Even just walking around the house she's always by my side. She sleeps between my legs most nights too. Shes my little space heater. She was a ferrell kitty (all black with a little chest patch of white) and i took her in at about 2 or 3 months old. Her name is willow. ( As in willow Ferrell) Spayed her around 7 months. She went into heat a few times before i was able to get her spayed. She is so talkative. I try and talk to her all day long and tell her i love her and play with her with her mousies and fishies. I might have saved her from the dangers of the outside (we live in the country with wild dogs and coyotes) but she saved me too. She basically cured my depression and ive been sober from drugs for over 2 years now. I got clean when i saved her. I used for almost 10 years. She truly saved my life and i love her with every ounce of my heart and soul.

Interesting views. I have been adopted by felines for decades and found that species does contribute to their behavior too. My elder big Maine Coon male Panther is intimidated by my little female Bombay. Both are 'fixed' and he is twice her size, so I think breed should also be a factor.

  • @SuzetteKath

I had for nearly 18 years a female cat who was altered. She WAS very territorial. This gal I remember would attack those who came over to visit. She wouldn't attack those living with me. When my daughter was born. And we had a social worker over. That gal growled at the social worker when she picked up my daughter.
Currently we have three cats. Two males(both altered) who are about 12.5 years old and one female who is lil over a year old and has shown no sign of going into heat. She and one of the males consider my man to be their 'hooman'. They both will each sit on his lap. Even when he is either eating or working on his computer. While the other male is VERY possessive of me. To the point he gets mad enough to spray the area in our main bedroom on my side if and when I leave the house. Though he has learned that if he doesn't pee during the time I'm gone. I'll reward all three with some catnip I grow.

All of my boy cats have been insanely affectionate and loving but my girl is a bit more standoffish and doesn’t cuddle as much. Although she does follow me around the house all day so I know she likes me lol. It’s just hard for me because I want to kiss and hug her all day! She’s just so cute!!!

2 neutered male cats, with the same education. One is playful, reckless, limitless energy, meows a lot and want to go out everytime he can, the other one is quiet and slow, loves to snuggle in a blanket all day long, he never manifested any will to go out.
Individual personalities makes them symetrically different. One is easy mode, the other one is for cat experts 😀

I adopted two Bengals at 12 years of age, both neutered. The female used to yowl quite a lot. At times he'd try to mate with her, but once on top of her, he'd get confused and didn't know what to do next! I felt sorry for him! She'd even comply, taking the female position, then get bored waiting, turn around, bite him, then jump off! Can anyone explain this? !

My last two were siblings. She adopted my son as her human. Period. She was far more strict about his bedtime than I was. Her brother loved everybody. Their markings were similar but everything else about them was vastly different. Bone structure, body shape, temperament. She had bird bones, he was a tank. Molly's feet were so dainty it hurt when she walked on you. Murphy was like a basset hound crawling over you. We had 15 years of goofy with them.

My cat was born in a barn and had not interacted wrh huans. It took forever for him to be cuddly. He's also been raised with a puppy so he scratches the door to go potty outside, like the dog. He uses the litter box only if it's below zero. We had a thunderstorm one time. Our dog used the litter box.
It's interesting raising a puppy and a kitten together.
