Nice to see. But at the same time I found it sad and depressing . Dale didn't build DEI to be a monument and museum to him. It was to be the future and legacy for his children . I feel strongly that his intent was to create a powerhouse very competitive operation and ultimately put Dale junior in charge . It had a very impressive start and could have been incredibly huge and successful . But unfortunately the female in charge after his death could only think about her fastest way out of the spot lights and the best way to the bank and the golden goose. I think he would be sad to see what has become of it all. Screwed once again by a woman . She took everything PULS the legacy he tried to give his children .

I went in March of 2001, a lot has changed since then. That wall where the race suits were was a display of antique Winchester and Colt rifles and pistols. There was also deer, elk, goat and turkey mounts all the way across that whole wall. The room where the race cars are had classic cars, old IROC cars and a couple of classic John Deere tractors. It's kind of lame that they took all the cool stuff out to put sunglasses and belt displays. Who knows the guns were probaly sold because of their value, she has pretty much sold off anything else of any kind of value. It's a shame, I would never step foot in that building again, I would rather drive to Welcome NC and go to RCR and see a true Dale Earnhardt museum.

BrendanTheGent thx for sharing. I visited DEI back in 2003 or 2004 and it was busy with people buzzing around. Seeing that was a sad reminder of what once was...and what it has become. I was shortly part of the Winston cup family as I traveled to the races as a Winston girl. I was working the track in Rockingham NC the very next race after Dale Sr was killed, it was unlike anything I had ever seen at a race. In a week’s time , there was a souvenir truck that was parked from Daytona, covered from one end to the other with signatures and condolences. Have so many memories of my Winston cup days! Sure miss those days and my Earnhardt faves:)

The number 3 meant something to the Childress Family before Dale Sr. drove with the number and they knew Dale way more than any of us did. Older fans that are still alive may remember the 3 for the older drivers like Junior Johnson that used it. The Earnhardts seem to be fine with the 3 being used again. At least its a relative of Childress and not some random guy. If NASCAR retired numbers because of deaths of iconic legends then there wouldn't be many good numbers left. As for Teresa, can't disagree. She ran DEI in to the ground and I think its kind of weird to still be selling merch. of Dale Sr. when he has been gone for a really long time.

@@BrendanTheGent Hi Brendan, sometimes it seems that accidentally running into videos on CZcams is like getting caught in The Big One in NASCAR, lol. I bought a Dale Sr. autograph on a personal 3.5x3.5" starting-grid photo from '86 Watkins Glen on eBay last week; in subsequently trying to ascertain the year of the race depicted, which the seller hadn't noted in the listing, I Googled around to a few different sites for grid positions at WG until finding the one that matched my pic. Then I noticed more Dale Sr. vids mysteriously appearing in my Recommends on the CZcams homepage, which of course I began to view over the last few days, and, wallah, up came your vid after a few of those days yesterday. How's *_that_* for The Big One?! So, I don't know, but it does seem that my combined eBay/Google/CZcams activity revolving around Sr. eased your vid my way. Again, great video. I would love to get down there to DEI. Your vid reminded me of my genuine surprise at how I really loved visiting the _Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum_ in Nashville, when I'd initially only accompanied a friend there purely as a favor to her. I may end up making a point to visit DEI now someday b/c of your video. More of The Big One!

Man, its really hard to watch this video.... i remember the day i heard on the news that Dale had died. It actually made my eyes well up. No celebrity or any other famous or public figure had ever made me so upset upon hearing that they had passed before then or anytime after either. i didnt buy all the swag and become a nascar junkie like some friends of mine, but i was mos def a fan! I truly loved watchn this man on the track with horns lowered and hard chargin. Inspirational for me personally on the street or highway back in the day and still here and there to this day. Nascar just wasnt the same for me after he died. Dale jr. Was fun to watch for minute, but, the Man in Black was gone.

Dale Earnhardt's shop is at RCR in Welcome, NC. Dale's cars weren't actually made out of this shop, although he did own it and produce DEI cars out of it. The RCR shop in Welcome is the holy grail for any Earnhardt fan. My dad and I used to go back in the 90's every year and watch them work on his cars there. Today it's a museum full of all of Dale's famous race cars and even Chocolate Myers (Dale's old gas man) runs a radio show out of it. You'll see him there just about everyday
