  • John I really enjoyed this conversation with an amazing politician from Birmingham - Lisa Trickett. Lisa is a former chair of the Active Well-being society that is run by Karen Creavin and is often referenced by Martyn Allison as the very best example of how the physical activity sector can work effectively with communities to improve population health and address inequalities.
So John and I were fascinated to hear from Lisa the Active Well-being society operated under her leadership - including the incredibly successful scheme that involved giving bikes away to people who could least afford them and the lessons that were learnt as a result. I think the most important and impressive aspect of this conversation is that Lisa is heavily involved in the system as a politician and knows the system needs to change and is actively working to do so. Lisa is also involved with the national Labour party working very closely on the environmental side of things, including active travel, and is a real force to be reckoned with. Lisa knows first hand the value of physical activity helping to address health inequalities and is a fantastic ally for our sector to have - now and in the future - possibly with the changing government. With her help - and others like her - our sector can play a major role in preventative health programmes at a local and national level. Please enjoy this one!
