Am I'm I the only one impressed with how they started. From what I can tell their cue came from the trumpet player reaching for his horn then reaching back in time. Very subtle yet very effective.
Jason Phillips I usually only like RCC. Their playing is controlled and tasteful, their performance quality is genuine and and not stiff. Rhythm X is also very good. Great movement quality.
So the “with or without you” ending with pointing at the trumpet I think was a sign saying that regardless of what anyone thinks they (RCC) is going to innovate and try new things like for ex. A trumpet. Hence why their show was “the sound of progress”.
Agreed. And at the end, the trumpet takes its place in the back corner as a symbol of the continued legacy of innovation of RCC (along with all the other props from past seasons).
I've been thinking about this for a while and wanted to put my thoughts down and maybe get some input from other wgi addicts. I think this show references each previous show RCC has performed. -2002: far left painting (heartbeat), also fitting that the first reference is for the first RCC show -2003: jump and play stuff @ 4:20 -2004: painting 2nd from the left (little squares) is the same design as the backdrops in 2004 -2005: ghost notes at 6:00? 2005 had a cool ghost note/decrescendo in their ballad, so this could be a reference to that. There were also like 5 dance breaks in 2005, so maybe the dance break Landon starts is a reference -2006: ??? I can't find anything other than the floors being similar colors. Could be a hidden reference in the 2 paintings I don't have a show for (middle and far right) or some similar music from the pit, but I'm not sure -2007: little drum on the pedestal is referencing the end of the 2007 show when a kid walks out and plays some flams on a tiny drum -2008: black hat hanging in the white room -2009: sidestep drill at 6:03 is a well known part of the 2009 opener -2010: the repeated "running" visual at the beginning of the show is also used a lot in the beginning of 2010, it's a fairly common visual and fits -2018s theme so I could be reading too far into it. Right after the jump and play at 4:20 they have the same 5:3 rhythm in the battery that the 2010 show ends with, so maybe also that. I also feel like the pit has similar motifs in both shows but I don't know 2010 well enough to say for sure -2011: 2nd painting from the right (squiggly line) is the floor from 2011, plus various "flying" visuals -2012: folded flag on a pedestal in the white room, also cymbals at 4:50 when they lay on their backs (edit: tenors at 5:36 have a traditional grip prep, so that could also be a 2012 reference) -2013: snare visual at the beginning of the 6:15 Tenor feature is a repeated visual in 2013, mostly in the beginning -2014: bull horn on the pedestal in the white room -2015: little tree in back of white room. Also the lunge down at 6:09 could be referencing the final battery impact of 2015 -2016: I'm surprised I'm having a hard time here, since 2016 is one of my favorite wgi shows ever. I think the left hand prep/fake out at 5:36 references the fake out in 2016 right after the tenors have the traditional grip feature towards the beginning. I'm sure there's a better reference somewhere. (edit: I just noticed tenors do this prep in traditional as well, so this is definitely a 2016 and/or 2012 reference) -2017: "wings" visual at 2:25 from the dudes running behind the props. Could also be a 2011 reference. I think cymbals around 5:00 as well, but I'm not sure -2018: the show ends with the trumpet being added to the white room, saying that this show is now part of RCC's legacy and history Observations: I see 3 eras in RCC's indoor history. 2002-2009, 2011-2016, and 2017-present. 2010 is left out because it's really weirdly in the middle of two eras and I can't decide where to put it. This also follows the drum brands they've used. The first era was Dynasty, in 2010 they switched to Pearl, and in 2017 they switched to System Blue. This makes sense, because there's a good chance that changing drums could've been caused by changing staff as well. I watched 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2010 for the first time to find some of these references

Hell, i think the stick drop save that Miles does is pro level. Drops a stick and NO ONE notices. Check out 1989 SCV. Their tenor player dropped a stick during the solo camera panned away, and next frame he recovered. They won too.
I’m a Pulse fan myself but I even though I loved pulse 2018 I truly could not find anything that could be better about this show. It’s perfection from start to finish.
I actually saw these guys rehearse on the day I had to perform at semi finals. We got to see them perform there whole show before they went to the arena and they also saw our show! They really liked it!
@@faukslayer2495 because I was in it. I played quads at RCC from 2001 to 2003, then drumset in 2006 winterline. I also played quads for Blue Devils in 2002.

Not A fan of RCC or this show at all. But you'd have to be dense to say that they were not the very definition of PHENOMENALLY clean this season. That quad break near the end, that's rhythmically verbatim to what the Front is playing, is one of the most awe-inspiring passages I've ever seen in this activity. Give credit where credit is due
Am I'm I the only one impressed with how they started. From what I can tell their cue came from the trumpet player reaching for his horn then reaching back in time. Very subtle yet very effective.
Damn I never even noticed that first visual, that's impressive.
I love how vans are the official shoe of RCC
lol that's true.
Looking back this is such a once in a generation show. Purely Incredible
Truly a show only RCC could have done. I love it
Jason Phillips I usually only like RCC. Their playing is controlled and tasteful, their performance quality is genuine and and not stiff. Rhythm X is also very good. Great movement quality.
one of the best moving ensembles to ever march. mad respect
It's so weird seeing that trumpet player crab stepping
ShellyDon17 check my channel Stryke Wynds mainly crab steps
My band try’s to crab step in every show that we have
So the “with or without you” ending with pointing at the trumpet I think was a sign saying that regardless of what anyone thinks they (RCC) is going to innovate and try new things like for ex. A trumpet. Hence why their show was “the sound of progress”.
But the only thing is they are not the only group who did that. For example, infinity 2 with the flugelhorn solo during their ballad.
I think whole point is that the activity as a whole is going to continue to envolve whether people agree with it or not.
As others have pointed out, it's more about the activity as a whole rather than just RCC
Agreed. And at the end, the trumpet takes its place in the back corner as a symbol of the continued legacy of innovation of RCC (along with all the other props from past seasons).
RCC is going to turn wgi into dci

The ending lick of the closer tenor feature is the exact same as the 2009 feature
@@Eli43540it definitely is that much in depth. So much thought and care goes into every moment when you’re designing, specially at that level

Crazy to think it’s been well over 3 years since I saw this performance, but the emotional impact has been long lasting. I love this show
The kit entrance at 1:24 is insane and i love that man forever
Brenden Kasprzyk thanks man
5:24 good recovery miles. Lol
that could've been crucial lmao
I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE OMG
Where?
Will Pollard quad to the far left drops sticks on his drum
Took me a bunch of times to see it
6:16 is the cleanest quad break I've ever heard holy christ
Nick Jun that was smooth
i love william mitsuk
The front too... it sounds like one person playing. Insane
Literally had my mouth open breathless.

The facial expressions on miles today. Love em lol

I love how everything in the "white room" is a reference to a past RCC show
I like how they are all wearing vans
This is one of, if not my favorite show and that trumpet makes it
DCI will turn into WGI...and WGI will turn into DCI...with or without you.
After watching alot of groups, you lowkey got a point there
4:19 Nice throwback to RCC 2003
Spencer Chapman how do you even remember a show from 15 years ago

One of my favorite closers now.
0:19 when you leave pulse hanging in 4th place
That picture refers to RCC's first WGI championship production, "The Sound of Silence"; nothing to do with bashing Pulse, or anything of the like.

They came back so hard from last year. This is so freaking good.
Max Alvarado historically RCC always seems to win the year after they get 4th. With the exception of 2011 of course.
BrothaNBlue lmao it’s time for them again in 2020
Danny Hammond that aged SO poorly
Daaaaammm... That tenor solo at the end was pure beauty!
What a cool show! Just started watching marching arts this year, and only recently wgi.
dog de la frog Check out Aimachi 2013's ninja show
dang only 6th place, pretty cool show too!
Check out Sparkman High School 2016, they got first in open class that year and 4th this year
I appreciate the musicality of the closer so much
I just still can’t get over that hit at 1:21
That resolution with the chord just slaps!
I like the homages they make to previous shows, like 09 and 13
I always giddy when watching very professional drumlines. The movement at 3:43 is mesmerizing.
love this show!!
Yo someone actually needs to make a tutorial on how to do Landon's dance solo
This is the video we used to learn the feet. czcams.com/video/A-9RWQc4tzE/video.html
funny how i just learned the dance on my own
Adam Aqui oh nice
Chills every time.
2008 aesthetic vibes, dig it.
Subtle.
This is tied with "Guardians of the Breath" as my favorite Indoor show of all time
I am so addicted to this show I actually wrote all the things said in the lyrics
6:03 Haha, a little throwback to '09

That tenor solo still gives me gose bumps.
I've watched this many times and never noticed the stick drop at 4:52. It's next to the cymbal player's right foot.
ART
I just have to say that this is my all time favorite show
chills. every. single. time.
I’m back again😌
The drumming dance troupe back at it again!
miles kenobbie is just such a happy guy. he has the face of a guy whos is happy doing what hes doing.
Jay Reddicks too. Smiling the whole dang time.
Really, all of them are, come to think of it.
Came here mostly to see Micheal Tran on Xylo but wow everyone is amazing.
I think that quad player who acciedentally spins his quads at the end did system blue a few years ago with me
3:03 Sounds like something Jim Morrison would write.
they are the reason i bought those vans
Here after the whole coronavirus WGI shutdown. Its sad to see so many good programs and shows end so early :(
I believe that 2018 had some great shows for percussion
I very much enjoy watching trumpet kid just dip out after the quad break at 5:30
Also just noticed the props they put up in the white room are from different shows. The siren from 2014 and the flag from maybe 2012?
1:25 Landon got some moves lmao
1:27 Landon built different
Those are some shiny cymbals
The trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raise imperishable. And the living, alive at that time, will be caught up to meet them in the clouds.
I've come back to this show and just realized the trumpet player looks like Micheal Reeves
This really gets me in my bag (as the kids say)
This show is aging soo well.
Is this riverside city college u mean?
Were one of the bassists gone or something? I remember there being 5 earlier.
Who's the marimba on the far right? She's killing it!
What does the trumpet player go under for scores?..
G/than Works They can't be judged for playing but they can effect General Effect.
Music GE
Jesus Christ that trumpet sounded amazing!
Jesus these guys can move
My word. Steven performs the absolute fuck out of this show.
PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT SONG WAS USED IN THE INTRO
I need the transcription for this poem.
what’s up with 2018 and 4 person basslines
What happened to the 2019 vids
Despite the stick laying on the floor, I was surprised no one fell on their ass.
That trumpet tho
The trumpet player is my tech btw.
Someone please tell me the name of the trumpet player

A horn in drum lines?
whats that song tittle? last song
Is that Chris Chervet on trumpet?
Yes it is!
that moment from Totem tho!!! 6:00

Also they put a lot of visuals from over the years in their show like the brush snare solo thing in 2013
Good
5:23 Oh no, Miles
how did they time the turning on "listen"?
The trumpet player. He reaches for his horn on 1. Reaches back on 4. They all turn on 5.
