Richborough Roman Fort - A History

Just to the north of Sandwich in Kent lies Richborough Roman Fort, the Roman Rutupiae, now run and maintained by English Heritage
In 43 AD the Claudian Invasion landed here on what was an island in the Wantsum Channel, fortifications were built to protect the beach head before the Legions marched on Britain
