- Hi flames! Today I'm challenging myself to the KORBUT FLIP... also known as the DEATH LOOP. This skill was invented by Olga Korbut and first performed in the 1972 Olympic Games. DO NOT TRY unless you have proper coaching, and mat protection.

I will never stop saying it; Olga Korbut's bars routine is the best routine ever. Period.
💯💯💯💯💯💯 I agree with you. so iconic for the history of our incredible sport.
I agree. I'm not a gymnast, but I rematch it often. 😊
It was Elena Mukhina that make her routine much harder. You have it on You Tube.
So trueee❤
Bars routine yes but floor is definitely Katelyn ohashi
People seem to forget, the blind grab on the way back was almost as impressive! P.S. um, why not just call it the Korbut Flip…?
My 11 yo daughter just started gymnastics last week and her first question to her coach was “When can I learn how to do backflips.” She said it so seriously the coach just stared at her and said “ Let’s try cartwheels and handstands first. My daughter was so determined to get those moves down that the coach said if she keeps practicing and pushes herself she will put her on the tournament team because she never gives up.
That’s so sweet ❤ I’m 12 and I’ve been doing gymnastics since about 2, and I’m competitive but can finally do a back tuck on floor after like 2 years 😂
@@they.fw.allyyy😮👏👏
Seeing you work so hard to achieve this skill makes me realize what a phenomenal gymnast olga korbut truly was for her time!... I was always a fan and thought she was fantastic.... but seeing you try this skill and realizing how dangerous it really can be make me have even more respect for one of my favorite gymnasts ever!❤... great job by the way!
THIS WAS SUPER FUN TO WATCH! Ugh, I wish I stayed in gymnastics growing up 💕
It was super fun to watch I can’t believe you did that 😮
And I am still in gymnastics
Fr
Girl same I didn’t wanna quit but i had to bc it was too far away and expensive but I miss my friends and wish I stayed in it bc I would actually be good
@@AudreyKemmer that was exactly why I couldn’t continue either. I ended up doing cheerleading and learned something new and kept tumbling. I wasn’t a high level but I was good!
Death loop?🙄 That's the Korbut flip!
Its called the Korbut Flip. Give Olga the respect she deserves
Exactly!!
Womp womp
Congratulations! But why do you need to call it anything other than the Korbut flip?
Give credit where credit is due.
Call it the Korbut flip.
I'm trying to learn an Old Logger's Trick (OLT) to keep it alive.
So much respect for her and this ionic skill! Unfortunately not a lot of today’s gymnastics generation knows it by it’s real name! What skill is the OLT? 😍
@@sophiacampanagymnast It is a strict freestanding handstand pushup on one hand. My Forestry Prof would do 40 on each arm.
@@sophiacampanagymnast I discovered that gravity still works.
Thank you for deconstructing the process to learn this move. This explains why the move was banned.
Awesome video. Really great seeing what goes into trying a bold move. Still memorized by the Korbut flip to the no hands pivot at the waist and blind catch on the back side of the move too.
So I just discovered your channel & am so proud of you for landing a move that's since been banned by the IOC. While I can understand the reason for it being banned, I'm very happy that you actually took a chance to push yourself to new levels and abilities!
Thank you so much!! Your comment means a lot. It’s so fun to play in gymnastics and not always be routine building!
Olga Korbut’s bar routine was the best I‘ve ever seen. Elena Mukina and Nadia Comaneci were great stars on the uneven bars, too. This was the golden aera of the uneven bars. We always can learn from that.
So I appreciate your way of learning from the best. It always was very interesting to see the steps of learning. Great job!
I love how she gets on the bar and she’s is like alright then just sends it ❤😂
Ooooh you should try doing the whole routine!!!
OMG that was so so impressive!! thank you for showing the work leading up to success!!!!
God bless!!!
her determination is epic ❤❤❤
Brilliant :) Nice one Sophia! :) Just love Olga :)
Very good complete professional safety and technical. Much appreciated!
That was fun. Elena Mukhena did it with a full twist 😉
Omg I saw a video if this… SOO phenomenal! What bravery right?
Oh yes, they both had talent for sure.
Elena's skills is truly amazing, but she paid a hevy price.. All around world champion had a sad and short life 😢😞 i pray for her 🌠
This was awesome! I just found you literally TODAY, and gurl... WoW. In love with your courage. I've just been a spectator my whole life because people always told me I was too fat. Well i'm 42 now finally with my weight under control only because I restrict myself so bad. Do I have an ED yes, but she's someone I've lived with since i was 13. Just maybe if i can finally get a dream fulfilled she'll leave. People like you that your 27 and still in it and Chelsea Memmel that came back to Elite level in her 30's after having kids gives me hope that somewhere in the universe there's someone that would take a chance on me and train me. I'm never gonna have kids i've figured out that biologically it's in the better that i not have them. So starting now in my 40's because I have the heart of a teenager, do you think anyone would take me seriously that I want to learn and train all 4 events? Yeah I'm sure people would snicker and laugh but that's ok. I started dance as the oldest student in the studio at 23 and danced there until I was 30 and the only reason I left was because of the owners discriminatory attitude of not allowing me to perform on stage anymore because of my age. I went to a ballet school after that and tried the intermediate adult class and they only spoke French in class... after 7 previous years and barely proper names for movements, I was deer in headlights. But they heard my story and afforded me grace said I wasn't alone and said I would pick it up. Gave me names of books that would help. Nicest people I had ever met. Unfortunately I ended up leaving that school due to transportation and couldn't walk there once winter hit. I lived in Massachusetts at the time and if you've ever been in any New England State in the winter it's brutal. Not to be walking in at all. Serious though I live in Florida now and trying to moveto California. I know collegiate wise very competitive states but even if I went back to school (college) I don't think I'd even qualify even for intramural programs. Just looking for advice on how I could approach anyone to ask if they'd be willing to work with me? I'm serious. I also have Fibromyalgia and it has disabled me. Many doctors keep saying keep exercising well even though I love the water i need something else to help me build back muscle. I'll never be Ally Raisman (my favorite US gymnast EVER) or Catalina Ponor or Vanessa Ferrari (2 of my favorite international gymnasts) that is OK- I'm not wanting this to emulate anyone else but be the first me- Khelisie Salvatore. 🫶🏻🌻🩷 much love and continued success. Stay smiling 😊
That is amazing great job ❤
Criminally underrated
❤️
i'm a little late, but wow! you've got a lot of skill, keep it up!!
Wow that is amazing ❤
You are adorable and amazing. Thank you for making this Gen X, former competitive gymnast smile - I was a Nadia girl growing up, but there's no denying the incredible talent of Korbut. Happy gymnasticing always!
the stuff they did back then was 10x harder than any modern routine
Fr tho
Exactly. The current routines are cookie cutter. It’s disappointing but still amazing to watch the skill.
I had that kind of thought when I was on beam last week… I randomly decided to try a front walkover, (never done it before, never even attempted) and just threw it 😂
I dont like it being called as the death loop either, thats the Korbut flip guys (but I'm glad its banned though and lucky to see that none got hurt btw😅) but Sophia seeing you giving it a try and accomplishing the mission successfully is truly inspiring...👏🏼👏🏼💪
Bro ur so talented and amamzing u have earned a sub :))
Thank you so much 🥹 so sweet
Np
Nice Job. Amazing
ur so underated!
Congratulations!!! Beautiful.
Yeesssss I bean looking for a gymnastics Chanel 🎉
Ahahah, sei uno spasso. Bravissima!
Bravoooo!!!
bro i love your videos
When I see the Korbut Flip I always can't stop thinking about whether this would alsonbe possible from giants aka whether a kovacs os possible on uneven bars. I think some people have tried but no one has done it yet
Hiii please make more videos like that 😂❤there so fun🎉
I can’t wait!!! Thank you so much!!😍 so happy you enjoy them!
@@sophiacampanagymnast yessssss🤩🤩🤩

That was Way Cool!! Looked totally fun!! Love your Leo!! What did the back say or was that a figure of some sort?
Thank you so much!!! My leo is from Terin Humphrey’s new collection! 😍 would highly recommend, they are sooo comfy!
@@sophiacampanagymnast What level are you?
you are so talented! could you make a stretching video? i'm starting gymnastics in winter but right now i'm a self taught dancer, and I have absolutely no idea what stretches to do before going on the bar!
Absolutely! I love your ambition! 💗
i felt like she was gonna land it right when the song said "only love can hurt like this" and based on the timing i think she did and that to me is crazy
👏👏👏
It is basically a vey undercut back handspring on the top bar.
hi sofia im on my moms acc but today 2/8/2024 i met you at my gym and just want to say i love you a support you and you are so kindddd!
Yess girly that was so good
Thank youu!
Thank youu!
Omg I just saw this on Instagram 8:39
The God Loop , the flippant flex , the hoop , eating your shorts , Nadia's Nemesis Novice , Generation Flex , Grenoble Grandstand , The Dial , Dial "O" for O'Mally (1944 film "Going My Way") , All the Tea in China (old expression for all in on a poker bet) , All In , the wild card , the Texas Hold em.
Those are a few. I could do this all day. And they say advertisers have no fun...😅
Well done
YO BRING BACK THE KORBUT FLIP ITS TOO FUCKING COOL
the ol saying is true, practice, practice, practice and more practice..and never give up..
Banned?!?! And you managed it safely?!?! That’s AWSOME!!! 😊🙌🏻
Don't get me wrong, its amazing, but it wasn't banned because of safety, it was banned because they no longer allow skills to be done by standing on the bar.
@@zyxcba126 They don´t allow skills standing in the bar for safety reasons
Definitely no one could do the move like olga, she was the best, no contest,
In the comments you can see the line of the Iron Curtain -- some people calling this a "death" move because it's unsafe, and some calling it a "Korbut" move because of the talented Soviet gymnast who performed it. It's important to remember that Soviet leadership were smart -- they knew when something was dangerous, but they did it anyway because they didn't care. Millions of Russians and more from satellite states died in secret during the Cold War. We will never know how many girls were hurt or killed before Soviet leaders found Korbut to make them look good on TV.
Ciao sophh ti seguo ovunque hehe
TI AMOOOO❤️
@@sophiacampanagymnast ANCH'IOOOOO❤️❤️❤️❤️
Do you compete for the Italian National Team? I hope you continue to make more videos, this one was fun and you have such a fun personality!
I GO TO THAT GYM!!!!
ALSO WHERE IS UR GYM I LIVE IN ITALY AND I CANT FIND ONE (In che città?)
Hi!!! Mine is in Milan, it’s called GEAS!
@@sophiacampanagymnast tysm !! I might have to visit🤭 although I live in Rome😭
It's explained why it was banned... It's extremely dangerous!!... A blind jump and the speed the body reaches on the way back to the bar...
Your doing all this and only have 261 subs girl you are underrated you just gained a sub
😅this is the nicest comment ever thank you sm 😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw you said it was the sweetest comment but I forgot to add that your editing is amazing and you are very funny and a lot of CZcamsrs don't look at their comments and I would like to thank you for that! (Literally I watched this like just yesterday and you gained like 60 subs! Like SLAYYYYYYYYY)
She only recently started being active on this channel though.
You're amazing
i do gymnastics lvl 5 and iknow someone in my gym that can do somthing like that
9:01 THIS PART IS SO FUNNY 😂😂😂😂❤
HAHHAHAH 🤣
@@sophiacampanagymnastomg i am shocked and im so happy u replied
are you at timberline gymnastics?
Yk the reason it was banned was because of how ur waist just slams on the bar which could vause injuries
A lot of people have commented this, especially on TikTok! I knew that it was banned after judges wanted more fluidity in routines and that standing on the bar ruined the momentum of combinations. Nevertheless, hitting your hips instead of your thighs cannot feel good! 😫
It wasn't because of that. It's only because standing on the bar was prohibited. The move being banned was a direct result of that. Other moves like The Retton Flip became obsolete simply because the bars moved too far apart of complete them.
@@sophiacampanagymnast. Hitting the bar was not painful if you had then set right. I was a gymnast in the 70’s.
@@sophiacampanagymnast omg u replied-
Now try the Mucina flip. Elena Mucina added to it.
Are you going to do the next bit now?
Korbut flip, do her honor.
The Death loop! I have seen is totally different
I go to gymnastics aswell
Best sport in the world!!❤️
Try a counter release skill on the bar. Those always wow! You think you’re getting one thing but No! Bam! You do a flip instead and regrab the bar.
Its called a Korbut and it is NOT banned.
Anything that involves standing on the high bar is banned in the Code of Points. So yes, the UB Korbut Flip is banned.
But it is.
I have a video for you to do you should make it a video of telling people to feel better about yourself when you don’t make a skill
maybe just do a standing back flip first , landing in the same place you started , if you can do it that way you have to be able to do it standing on the bar...
My name is Sophia too
HI SOPH!
Gymnasts are dare devils with no fear.
What gym do you go to
I go to Timberline Gymnastics in Colorado!❤️
Next you have to do it on a normal bar not pit bar 😆
LOLLLLL 🙈
But you don't get copyright????
You did so good but your legs were a little bit bent on the pullover
🎉❤.
Why is it banned? looks like another well practiced move achieved by a dedicated gymnist.
Well done Olga, and in 1972.
Its not allowed to stand on the bars anymore
Well Crap. thats like restrictor plates in NASCAR. It's not cheating it's dangerous huh? Ballsy if you ask me @@user-ji8ll1qn6o
I think it’s called a death loop for a reason 😂
This is Korbut flip .No dead loop , no circle of life sh..t . So Korbut Flip .Period
Bravo zulu!
Then she speaks Italian Sophia (no insult)
I am Trying to get my kip On bars
Why didn't you just call it the Korbut flip?
im a level 5 gymnast and im 9 im safe
Death loop
OK I have sub on your channel. But wanted to see you do it.
HAHA! thanks!!! :))
find brain how dangerous was it to train only simple cussions where available. there was no pit where you jump easy
Guys i was trying to learn how to do front spilt like u trying the death loop and i did it
when swim divers do a back flip, from a standing position they dont go that far back.. its more up and over then back and over..just my 2 cents.. from someone who cant do it,,,lolololol
The banded loop
Love ur channel plus 1 sub!! pin?
I thought she was 16
Actually, at 27, you're old for what Olga did
Almost twice the age she was when she did it!
Its a slay ❤
