Excellent analysis!! I want to point out one thing you mentioned about Ali Sethi which I don’t agree with him making faces. Have you seen the videos of Mehdi Hasan jee?? I think Ali Sethi when he sings he dives deep into the emotional state and the faces are the feelings and the journey he is being on during that song.

Hi Ananya, I find your reviews very interesting & knowledgeable, there are few very important things about Ali Sethi you have missed here...
1. His teacher is Ustad Naseer uddin Shami who is perhaps the only singer alive in subcontinent who can sing all 49 micronotes even the harmonium Ali practice on is tuned by Saami sahb
2.Ali hasn't been learning Music for so long, he developed his passion quiet late but his exposure to mainstream has enabled him to go the direction you have mentioned.
3. Ali Sethi belongs to one of the most privileged families in Pakistan, being born to Najm Sethi(Editor, TV host & Ex-Chairman of PCB) & Jugnu Mohsin (Editor & Politician) they are famous, often times controversial yet well known names in Pakistan, his parents circle was Nawaz Sharif & Imran Khan in the past, this doesn't get more elite than this; hence the connection but it doesn't take away from Ali & Mira Sethi's years of effort both have put in.

Ustaad Naseer ul din Sami is also one of Ustads of Ali Sethi. May be you have listened to his MUNDAARI on Rohail Hayaat channel.
Initially I was also not impressed by Ali Sethi but after some time I start enjoying his songs .
Have you listened to his song KHABAR E TAHAYYAR E ISHQ ? It's one of my favourite song of Ali Sethi.

Aur over expression waali baat se mujhay aik baat yaad aayi. There was a music reality show in 1980's and madam Noor Jahan was one of the judges . Toh uss show mein Madan Noor Jahan baar baar ye kehti thein ke I will deduct 1 mark if you give over expressions or I felt that you are struggling while singing. ( Sajad Ali Sir ka career bhi ussi show se start hua tha )
