      Keep dreaming man, most modern games take focus on realistic graphics and poor story/gameplay. But would be nice to see another title that could at least be as good as New Vegas.

      tonedog77 You have to be one of the only people I've run into online that think Fallout 4 had one of the most "compelling" storylines. I would understand it if you nominated fallout 4 for best fighting system or best crafting system but as far as role playing a story goes the vast majority of fans point to Fallout New Vegas. But hey, to each their own.

      Fallout 3 was the first one I played and loved it. New Vegas is my favourite to date. Despite owning Fallout 4 and all dlc, I struggle to enjoy it and have yet to complete it. I would love a FO3/Nv remaster. Let's see what E3 brings..

    I'm not a fan of the original fallout games but New Vegas is by far my favorite fallout game. Obsidian should be making every fallout game. Hell, give them elder scrolls to. The most annoying thing Bethesda does with these games that Obsidian did perfect was how everyone that's involved in an important quest is somehow immortal. Doesn't matter what you do to them they just fall down and get back up. New Vegas did it right. If you killed someone that was involved in a quest it means you failed that quest and had to find another way. Anything else is just lazy and has no excuse.

    • @jankdotTV
      @jankdotTV Před 7 lety +2

      I've never had a more darkly freeing experience in a game than rampaging through an NCR camp to the tune of half a dozen "quest failed" popups. Being bad in an RPG is so much better when it has consequences beyond "ooh bad karma".

    • @abdulmasaiev9024
      @abdulmasaiev9024 Před 7 lety +6

      I'm a massive fan of the originals and I see New Vegas as the only "Fallout" game in the new batch. The other ones are... fine, as a way to waste some time (FO4 being much, much better than FO3, while amusingly being less of an RPG), but NV just did so many things right. Still not quite the FO3 I'd have wanted, but within the limitations of having to conform to the Bethesda vision of The Wasteland Scrolls, it's as good as it gets. I mean, they had Evil Romans as one of the two big factions and still managed to make it believable and sensible within the setting ffs. Too bad Bethesda's attitude towards Obsidian making another spinoff is "NOPE", since apparently they don't feel it's good for them to be outshone in the massive cash cow franchise they now own.

    • @DiscoPickle102
      @DiscoPickle102 Před 7 lety +2

      Abdul Masaiev Well, Bethesda are apparently planning to embarrass themselves with every new Fallout game they make, if Fallout 4 is any indication (I do believe Fallout 3 was way better than the insult that was #4). Bethesda might want to rethink if they're not risking their playerbase here. I, for one, will not buy a Fallout 5 by them, unless it gets absolutely fantastic reviews.

      iAmRelmfu If you like New Vegas for those reasons then I know you can love the original Fallouts, especially Fallout 2. You are only prevented from enjoying the games because you don't enjoy the perspective, and presumably combat and movement. This is something you can overcome.

    My friends and I had a D&D campaign similar to that affecting other campaigns. One was started as heroes who ended up party wiping at the final boss, by chance, as they were supposed to win. It the became the 'Ragnageddon Campaign' in which a group villains who hated the idea of this super creature and decided to over throw it. We each joined each other for selfish evil reasons and even conspired against each other at times. Each of our characters took over key kingdoms and gained god powers, one was a Tyrant of War, mine was the Usurper of Fate and Shadow, another was Ruler of the Dead and Undying, and the Conqueror of Wyrms. I miss that campaign....

    • @domlocke3845
      @domlocke3845 Před 7 lety +1

      Hey, maybe with all the backlash they will fix that by Fallout 5? I don't know how you still do that with voiced dialogue, but I figure with the money they made with 4 Zenimax or whomever will fork over the extra dough to make it both deep and voiced. Or some kind of hybrid of the old system with the new one? I feel like once you let the voiced protagonist out of the box it's hard to force it back in.

    • @DiscoPickle102
      @DiscoPickle102 Před 7 lety +5

      I absolutely hated that my character was voiced in Fallout 4. It removed so much role-play potential. In the previous titles, you might've read a line and thought, “this is witty and sarcastic“ and because you thought that, it was. In Fallout 4, this line might just be pronounced in an entirely different way to what you imagined, ruining the role-playing experience. This happened way too much, so I really want it gone, along with all the other moves away from an actual RPG to a FPS with RPG elements.

    • @Ineedgames
      @Ineedgames Před 7 lety

      People say it's to make it more realistic. Though this is the excuse pretentious twats use to defend any game.
      Really it added nothing, in fact it might be the reason why dialogue was as shitty and limited as it was. Having someone recording millions of lines would have taken more time.
      Reason why I don't like AAA RPGs.

    Smashed it again Chris. HAT is one of my favourite series in video game journalism (and things to say) and I look forward to each and every episode. There are so many stories like this one lurking in the video game world, I bet. I think it's a shame a lot of video game discussion is about what's coming next and focuses on a brief snapshot of what video game creators think about games while they're trying to promote the product rather than the trouble and moments of creativity which go one behind closed doors. Anyway, ramble over. Nice episode!

  • @Chigen_Atomic
    @Chigen_Atomic Před 7 lety

    I would love for there to be a modular, evolving Pip-Boy, going off what they're talking about. I had an idea, if I were able to get away with rebooting the franchise or creating a near identical but more futuristic fallout, is that part of the game would be finding components your Pip-Boy lacks and earning them through various means. I borrowed a bit from an idea I had for a town based on Sanctuary Hills, with a Vault in the center of town and a sequential release system, so you'd come out to find a bustling town, being lorded over by some prick who either happens to own the base building mod, or stole it off your Pip-Boy, which would be in a case next to your cryo-pod. Long story short, you get it off him and find out through some means that there's a lot more mods out there, and so a background mission is to find all of them.
    On another note, and having done a wiki-walk a while back for Van Buren, I'd still love to one day see that story see the light of day.

    Any dam... Would have a city on it or a settlement.. As long as they have water flow it will have power... Fallout 4 pissed me off cause you couldn't do anything with the dam... You can bring power to the Commonwealth... the fact the Brotherhood of Steel didn't want nothing to do with it was a big disappointment..

    • @countrybluegrass
      @countrybluegrass Před 7 lety

      What are you even talking about? What dam? I hope for your children's sake you're not talking about the Hoover Dam, which is almost 3000 miles away from Boston.
      Continuing on the desperate hope that you're not referring to the Hoover Dam, hydroelectric is not a significant source of power in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The dams that are present in-game in Fallout 4 are fictional, they don't exist in reality. The only dam that should be there, the Charles River Dam, is not present or is woefully misplaced (the bridge located near the Ticonderoga Safehouse is where the Charles River Dam should be.) And the dam in question's purpose is not to generate power, it's to regulate water levels and prevent seawater from flowing into the Charles during high tide. Unless the Brotherhood of Steel wants to start a rowing club, no dam in the Commonwealth would be of any interest to them.

    Why are people acting like Fallout 3 was this abomination unto god in the comments? When a series's two low points are Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, that's a great game series. I love the Bethesda Fallout's and the Obsidian/ Black Isle Fallouts, they both bring unique aspects to the table. In fact, if you think about it, the weakness of one studio is the strength of the other. So you can wish for Obsidian to do all of Bethesda's games from now on, that's fine if not unrealistic. But I want a Fallout made by both of them. I want a game with Bethesda's spectacle, like the ending of Fallout 3, the art style of Fallout 4, and Obsidian's main quest and side quest depth. Now THAT would be one hell of a game.

      Ultraboy A: Low points are relative. Example: Return of the Jedi in the original trilogy, still good, just not Empire.
      B: The hoover dam fight felt small, the build up to that fight however was very good, feeling like two massive forces were ready to smash into each other like wild animals... and it didn't deliver. Despite the boomers flying over or the vertiberd of the Remnants it still felt underwhelming. F3 made the final showdown feel like a massive battle with LP and all the Enclave vertibirds, a fight that started near the Pentagon and moved to the Jefferson Rotunda with a good pace. It was kinetic and felt large and was pretty satisfying. I plead no contest to the Multiple endings however, in that we agree and while I enjoyed all those options and endings, I'm not playing a cutscene.
      C: Obsidian is a small studio that makes more niche games, of course they're going to have less flaws, they take less risks than Bethesda does. That's not an insult by the way, I can and do respect that.
      And D: What Fallout fans do you know that think Fallout 4 is that good? Hell I like Fallout 4, I enjoy it for what it is rather than for what it isn't and I think there are some good parts to the game that I'd like to see expanded on, but it's easily the worst Fallout I've ever played.

      The art style of 4 was awful though. Everything felt too big and cartoony, the ghouls looked awful and the power armor made you look like a transformer.

    • @domlocke3845
      @domlocke3845 Před 7 lety

      MartianProductions Well that depends on what you want from the art style. Personally, and admitted by the people who made it, Fallout is equal parts Mad Max and Mid-20th Century American Pulp and Science Fiction magazines and films. Fallout 4 took its art direction directly from those magazines and thus, I felt, it made it look visually interesting. Colors popped off the landscapes, and for it the game looked more Fallout than ever when compared to the bland greens and browns of the previous two games. In fact, I'd argue that it is the only art style that makes sense for Fallout. The style is what Fallout parody's and is tonally correct with the series which has always been darkly cartoony.

    • @Martian_Productions
      @Martian_Productions Před 7 lety +1

      Darkly cartoony, not just cartoony, the game overall looked too big, there was too much 50's aesthetic and not enough dark humor or twisted locations, in ways it is wacky, but not a Fallout style of wacky, the game is supposed to be somewhat realistic, you look at the buildings from DC and New Vegas, they look like normal old buildings while the buildings in Boston look like something straight put of a low-budget sci fi film. The art style has completely changed from NV and 3 which are arguably the best two modern Fallout games out there. Fallout 4 just felt slightly too forced and pulled away from an alternate reality. The power armor is too big and so are the assault rifles. The supermutants look like big green men, they don't look yellow and mutated enough. Same thing with the ghouls, the look too bloated and human, almost look like goblins rather than zombies. Nuka Cola is veering away from a parody of Coke, the bottles look like little rockets. Not only is Fallout 4 incorrect to 3 and NV, it isn't correct to 1, 2 or Tactics either.

    I just don't get how the exec's at Bethesda are thinking.
    They should've really gone out of their way to get the original designers of Van Buren on board to design Fallout 3.

      John Dematis, I agree. NV did feel smaller and somehow more restrictive than Fallout 3. Right up until finishing the story ended your entire playthrough (pre-patch), Fallout 3 really gave me a sense of freedom.

      @namelessgoon146 Před 7 lety +4

      Hey, this is a tricky and controversial subject. I'll throw my opinion in.
      New Vegas is, at least I and many others believe, an objectively superior game to F3. Its objectively better since over half the game and it's assets were already built by Bethesda, giving the Obsidian team more focus (on story and the rpg elements.)
      I can't choose between which I enjoy more though. F3's art style and atmosphere is the work of Adam Adamowicz, I'm pretty sure he is the only credited concept artist for F3, making the atmosphere very particular and cohesive. There's a whole, criminally small, art book of Fallout 3 and only two to four images are not the work of Adam's, so if you love the atmosphere look him up and pay your respects.
      That being said, I understand every comment about "Fallout 3 is complete and utter trash with no redeeming factors" because for an rpg of the likes of Fallout, a game that claims a cult like status, it can be hard to follow in its shadow, especially for a whole new company.
      (RIP Adamowicz)

    Aren't these devs at this point just the same as 'ideas guys'?
    People who had great ideas but never went trough the hardship of making those ideas a reality through the graft of intensive development?
    Vision is one thing, making it into a reality is entirely different when it comes to game development. I strongly get the feeling that most of what this guy is saying would've have been dumb'd down much like everything else these days.
