I love your videos on this topic. I fell into that over consumption of decks even though it was against my values from the get-go, but like you said it's been made so easy for us to form that addiction. I am fortunately broken free from it now, at least mostly, and I'm enjoying my decreasing collection of decks a lot more now than I was during my buying frenzy. It feels like the remaining decks in my collection have room to breathe now, if that makes sense!
Videos like this are important for (us) newbies out here. We really don’t need a collection of 150 tarot decks to be a reader and enjoy the process. I have a moderate sized collection at the moment - a combination of discovering that the decks I get on with are not necessarily what I thought AND with crazy rising exchange rates it actually makes financial sense to buy now and then cull rather than wait! But I only keep a few in rotation at any one time just to see which ones work for me. Can’t wait to have a paired down collection of favourites!
I resonate with a lot of what you said here. I am de cluttering my collection. Of 12 tarot decks. The only “people” decks I have are the RWS and the Druidcraft. Other than that I have otherworldly, mystical, magical decks. Especially animal decks.
@@MixtressRae I have definitely been swept away in the tarot consumerism wave. About a year ago I re-homed (culled, if you will) about 80 decks and now I have almost required the same number of decks back. When I watch TarotTube I am inspired to buy more and more decks that I fall in love with for various reasons that you touch on in several of your videos (perhaps CZcams creator connection, perhaps I fell in love with the art, perhaps I think I need it for a specific use that a CZcamsr suggests it should be used for). I need to get my collection down to like 10 tarot and 10 oracle (which is my dream goal). Anyway, I find it very helpful and useful that you don't promote collecting all the decks. Your channel is much better for my mental and financial health than some others that I've followed. Because it's about tarot itself, not the number of decks, right?!
Always interesting to hear your thoughts around this topic because I enjoy hearing you talk through it as you go (I am also a 'process queen' as you put it). I love your curated collection, I can really see you and your tastes in it.
Absolutely the best feeling for me is knowing nothing is coming, not checking on tracking, not worrying something is going to be damaged, just nothing but PEACE 🤍
To remove ash off a bag -- use a Q-tip with warm water and regular soap. Just spot clean it. Unsolicited advice and apologies if you read this and think, "Well, duh." Glad you're enjoying your curated collection!
Mixtress Rae, I know you don't do decks with people and don't get decks anymore really ... but I saw an upcoming deck on Am that made me think of you. Like, I don't really know why; I just saw it and thought, "I need to tell Mixtress Rae about this one." Maybe because I've watched past videos where you spoke about goth culture and such? It's called The Modern Goth Tarot Deck, images by illustrator Natalie Foss. I wish there were more preview images though, I don't know what the cards look like because it's not out yet.
You know there's people who freak out at you chasing down first ed. TWU in your yard.😅 I use it outside as well. It just likes to be there. On wood. In the sun. I love your ebay story. My Ceccoli Tarot is all busted up for the same reason. Here's what I find interesting. My collection is unbearably large for your sensitivity. (250 +/-) I get use out of a surprising number, and I am not bothered by not using them all the time or hardly ever. I think it's kind of cool that we have similarities in our collections. Some of your favorites are some of my favorites. I relate to some of what you say, but at least half of your decks are not my jam. It's just a little Tarot math I think is compelling.
Hi! Very interested to see the decks that stayed and why. You got me thinking about people in decks. I don't mind drawn people because they aren't real, so the energy they portray is general, a collective energy. Like with the skeletons. Real people in decks, I don't like because to me they each carry their own energy. So then the card is about their personal energy and there is no room for my energy as I have to consider theirs. It's more their story than mine.
Agree. I can’t connect to AI art decks even though they’re so beautiful. There’s something about a deck that someone has put a piece of their soul into to create that makes the connection.
You're rockin' the gorgeous jewelry again! 😍😍 I learned on original RWS so my plaid backs are an old friend to me. I have the mini, too. I take that one to my mom's for her readings, since they're tv tray sized, lol! Your Telezma is beautiful, I like it much better than that other huge, expensive collage deck that made the rounds last year. I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, I like your smaller collection, I find myself still culling from the 20 or so decks I still have - I just pulled out the Pavlov deck the other day to pass on. Thanks for posting this, I love your videos! 🙋♀️❤️🃏🕯🪄🧿🎶🎶❤
Very interesting talk, thank you ❤ You kept the Halloween Tarot 🎃 it's one of my favorites ! If I had only one tarot, it would probably be this one 😊 I have a huuuge collection, and I'm trying to stop buying but as you said, it's a long process Take care
These videos are fricking magic. My collection started to stress me out once I hit just over 50 decks (including oracle and a couple of lenormand) and so have whittled away a fair few so far. My tastes have definitely changed so decks I once loved are being neglected.. I sm starting to struggle just a little with the indie deck cull. But watching your process, I KNOW I'll get there. ❤ Thanks for the babble! 😊
I need a babblefest today - and then combined with a look into one of the cool kids collection, that's just perfect 😄 ( my cool kids are not the popular kids - actually it's extremely rare for one of the cool kids to be a popular kid too, Kelly Ann Maddox and Molly Roberts are both exceptions) The strange comment delivered plz ignore
I am a Dark Angels superfan, I'm so happy to see other people using it 😁 Did you buy/make that crocheted pouch you're using for Crow's Magick? If a pattern is available, I'd love to get my hands on it.
I appreciate hearing your process. It helps me with my own. I have been culling and going through another culling today. I find myself having trouble letting go of a backup copy of a deck, like a different version of golden rider (smaller pocket version) or the standard size sealed as a backup or a different size or version of Thoth deck. Any thoughts?
I’m always happy when I get rid of extra copies, personally. My advice is get rid of all backups with one exception of your very very very most precious. But that’s me!! I don’t even have a backup of marigold. I have a mini Halloween and two RWS but that’s it.
Bathtub readings? 😮I need to know more. Unless I misheard that lol and what’s a good way to scent decks without getting them oily? Sorry for all the questions!
I put the oil/scent on my hands before shuffling, inside the cover of the book on the bare side front and back and some times I'll put a drop in the lid of a box and let it dry down before closing the box. Others I keep in my cabinet along with parfumes and incense, and regardless, when you use your decks they will start to have a scent of you and your space.
I use cards when I’m in the tub, that’s the whole story! 😬 I sometimes do the incense stick in a bag thing or oil on hands thing but also spray perfume on bag. 🥰
I am really feeling the same effect. I am in the process of trying to pair down my collection. Not as big as most, but there’s definitely things that I bought that didn’t resonate, but kinda had FOMO… 😢 I posted some of the decks in tarot groups sell, trade, blah blah.. just looking to sell, not wanting anything else to bring in so I understand exactly what you’re saying. The paired down vibe is we’re I am at

Totally. And they are more likely to speak to me without all the others listening. 😎

Yes! There is one tarot tuber in a CAVE and I honestly get anxiety just watching him. It just extreme non stop consumerism

I so love and respect this video. I love seeing a collection video that doesn't consist of 100s of decks.
You'll love it even more the next one I do them, because there are even less decks now. ;)

Crochet bag made by a dear friend. If she sees this, perhaps she’ll divulge her secrets??
i just purchased your oracle deck and im enjoying the deck

You’re getting rid of Dark Wood??
Maybe. It’s in extended time out right now. I love the art, but it’s too detailed for the size of the cards so I never end up using it.
