Even better when you learn that it was produced in England not Jamaica. Also neither the performer, Papa Levi nor the producer, MAXI PRIEST were born or raised in Jamaica--though both are of Jamaican parentage./in fact, a recent CZcams interview (from 'Irish & Chin'?) shows that PL never grew up speaking patois. Maybe BROKEN patois, but he still remembers the long fast DJ flows. Now THAT's impressive.

This tune put the English Mcs on the map Levi was ahead of his time lyrically just like Asher Senator Leslie Lyrics the late Smiley Culture and from the Wandsworth area the late Daddy Willie from Brixton Tippa Irie from the Midlands Macka B and Pato Banton these guys studied the genre and took the baton and forged ahead . Levi stood out bcos of his personality and humour and he was a confrontational Mc who was confident of his ability and knew the business only time I see him rattled is when he came across Daddy Willie who was very similar to him in style plus he had lyrics too 1985 High Wycombe. Those were the days everyone wanted to dj and spit lyrics I must admit know done it as good as the Saxon djs .Don't get me wrong there were djs just as lyrical I've mentioned a few above Champion from Brixton Ricky Rankin also but the Saxon djs had that polish like they ate slept it basically they were very professional.

I felt I could decorate everyone's house in the road. That was the inspiration. In later life, I could not find "mi God mi King" anywhere. Thanks to the internet, we can share this wonderful music. Many thanks. E. x

    Mi God Mi King Lyrics
    Yeah!
In smoking sensimillia you gotta give thanks and praise on to the Almighty Lord God jahoviah!
    Do it, jah!
    Murdah!
Mi god, mi king, him name Jahoviah. Jah man
Mi god, mi king, him name Jahoviah
He inspire me to be a mic chanta
Me mask wid deh mic 'round the amplifier
Me fling wey deh slackness, cah now a culture
Pure conscious lyrics yuh a go hear me utter
So if you are an adult or a teenager
Say everyday you wake you fe read a chapter
Beginning of wisdom is the fear of jah
The bottomless pit mek we throw lucifer
They tek wey we gold, jah man, them tek we silver
Them hang me pupa and rape me madda
The ship me from the wonderful land of africa
Fi slave fi dih plantation owner
They take wey we name, jah man, them call we nigga
The only word we know »I isa coming, massa!«
Them tell we say we ingnorant and inferior
And how them intelligent and superior
Through the complexion of them skin color
But I as a youth born as a super
Me badda dan deh bite from a tarantula
You hear fi mi voice a come through the speaker
But it sounds sweeter with the echo chamber
    R fi di roots
    C fi di cultcha!
Seh S for selassie earth rightful ruler
Seh once as a lamb going to di slaughta
Now the conquering lion of the tribe of judah
You can't enter zion with a bushmaster
    An m16 or an revolver
Se (s)tan a babylon with you ammunition
Ca deso a de ultimate destruction
Pupa levi pon the version. Hail jah man
    A Levi pon the version
    How me stay?
Jah man mi cool, nuh stubborn like mule
Mi walk pon de streets nuh gwaan fool fool
A right at the dance a mic a mi tool
Eat pon table sit on a stool
No black me brown me brown no black
Me ribs a(t) me chest, me spine a(t) me back
Trousers have pocket and pocket have flap
But soul or rock but reggae mi chat
Cap an no buck an deh buck ha no cap
At deh bottom a bass and treble a top
Me hot no cold, dey cold no hot
Electricity can give you a shock
No fraid for no mouse no fraid for no rat
Start from the bottom me reach to the top
Eat out the snack, di pot ha di pap
Me run at deh toilet mi cut the crap
Me hungry again me no eat a snack
Cah from me a youth me no scour no pot
Fe me head dread me head it no plat
No live in no house me live in a flat
Lord in di year when dis riddim drop
Yuh head yuh toe yuh body a rock
From me pon deh mic dis ya lyric a top
Well slacknes a bottom and culture pon top
African land of the I’n’I spot
In time of trouble jah not tun him back
Me pray to jah, mi never will stop
Who worship satan a foolish idiot
Jah blow breath, the devil can not
Who get a bullit, now mista Sadat
After Reagan pump Levi a shot
Malcolm X dem kill pon deh spot
Up inna zion deh righteous will top
Down inna hell the wicked a rot
The sweetest singer a Sugar Minott
The maddest comedian a Kenny Everett
    Dracula tun inna vampire bat
But when him see sun him cyaan tek dat
You eye dem dark fi use contact
But deh pon deh mic is Levi a chat
Not so long jah walk pon deh land
    The peaceful righteous rastaman
Troddin with the maccabee inna him hand
Preaching love to man and woman
    Get crucify by the roman
Them let him to cross street foot an him hand
    Rise again the resurrection
Well a him create the earth an heaven
Take six days no take him seven
    Give riches to king Solomon
Make him wiser than all other man
Eve couldn’t mek without of adam
Live in a babylon as a black man
Where all me face is racialism
When me weak they seh that me strong
When me right they seh that me wrong
Through me no check di politician
No care who win no election
Pon the mic me please everyone
    Flashing down style an fashion
Mi god, mi king, him name Jahoviah
Mi god, mi king, him name Jahoviah. Yes
He inspire me to be a mic chanta
Me mask wid deh mic 'round the amplifier
He inspire me to be a mic chanta
Me mass wid eh mic ‘round the amplifier
Me fling wey deh slackness, cah now a culture
Pure conscious lyrics yuh a go hear me utter
So if you are an adult or a teenager
Say everyday you wake you fe read a chapter
