    Pico 4 + 7900XTX + 5800X3D + Wifi 6 + Virtual Desktop = about 30ms latency, and next-to-no compression. I'm very happy with this solution. I sold my old G2, and as a direct comparison the Pico lenses made all the difference.

    Just to touch on your experiences with ACC. ACC in particular needs a lot of tweaking to get it to run well in VR. OpenXR/OpenComposite is basically a must run for ACC. Fixed foveated rendering and CAS helps massively. Without it, my 3080 struggles to run it above low or medium. With OpenXR I can run my Quest 2 at full resolution with 150-160% VR resolution scale and most settings on high. If I didn't find out about OpenXR, I would've given up on VR right away. iRacing and AMS2 are much better in VR than ACC right out of the box. ACC is just not very well optimized for VR.

    Great information. I toyed with the idea of getting the Pico 4 after trying it in a store and being blown away by the image quality of the pancake lenses. But the QA issues I read about it put me off, and then I bought a Quest 2, which I love for iRacing (cable free), but the image quality can sometimes be an immersion breaker. @@gustavogoesgomes1863 I think that's a sensible upgrade path. I'm still drawn to the thought of triples, basically for the reasons outlined by Karl; VR for PC gaming (when used wirelessly) just doesn't produce the same level of graphic fidelity. At the same time, when I race VR, I often forget the graphics quality due to the immersion factor. But, when I am at the ADAC Sim racing expo in October (Dusldorf) I will be trying out triples, just to see what all the fuss is about.

    I’ve got a 2080 super and an i9 9900ks. With the quest 2 oculus debug tool I can change the amount of the screen that is turned on. By only running 55% vertical and 80% horizontal I still get full horizontal view and slightly reduced vertical fov but I can run iracing on class 2 graphics (second highest graphics out of 6 levels) and get a pretty solid 120fps that only occasionally scales down to 60fps when im surrounded by cars on a high end circuit.

    I totally agree, there is a no returning point from wireless. I'm still amazed Sony pulled off the PSVR2 with a dangling cable.
    About racing sims I think the problem is more related to the nature of the genere, long view distances are allways gonna end up hitting the screen´s grid phisycal resolution. There is no workoround to this other than increase pixel density. I own a Q2 and probably will upgrade to a Q3 but the Pico is a very tempting thingy.

    Karl, I'm about to write a longer comment about my experience with the Pico 4, but as a short note before: If you try PCVR Sim Racing with the Quest 2 again, fiddle around with the FOV Tangient Multiplier settings. I've set mine to 0.7/0.7, which basically leaves out a whopping *49%* of the total rendered pixels you wouldn't see anyway. This leads to massive performance headroom you can use for higher settings. Thank me later. 😛

      Can vouch. I set mine to 0.7/0.5 for a bit of a helmet like view and this allows me to crank up the SS to the point the game looks MUCH better for basically zero side effect. I hope to see a similar Quest 3 review from ya. I'm stuck between Quest 3 and the full Index kit, wich will cost me about the same (~$1K) to get running on PC...
    Quest $500 + Headstrap $150 + Pro controllers $300 = $950 without even considering a 6E router or VR cover.

    Nice video! One thing that came to my mind is that you should use some other sims to test VR headsets. ACC is just awful in every headset if you dont have some nasa spec PC. I got it running okay with 3080, but it took ages to tweak everything and i still prefer iracing and AC VR. I dont need any eye candy in simracing, but i want picture to look smooth and i hate to see flickering. I would suggest to test VR in one of these: Iracing,AMS2 or AC. I have been thinking to uprage to pico 4 from quest 2, but im not sure yet. I use VR headset only in simracing.

    I recently purchased the DPVR E4 to replace my rift s and quest 2 purely for sim racing and flight sims. It’s a really good budget headset with a DisplayPort only connection. I hope you don’t mind, but I recommended you to them as a great you tube reviewer and that they should send you one to review once they release their facial interface and lens protector’s. I’m really enjoying it and it retired my rift s for sim racing. It’s budget for sure with compromises but better FOV than oculus, Super-light in weight and DisplayPort for under £500 so I was sold haha Try AMS2 it’s so easy to run on high in vr with a 3080.

I’ll gladly wager when I have a quest 3, I’ll still use dpvr e4 for sims.
      For my personal tastes with racing or flight games, it has to be DisplayPort connectivity for me to enjoy it and I want a light in weight non front heavy headset so I can do long stints in comfort. For racing sims I used my rift s the last four years and I bought the dpvr e4 for sim racing to replace my ageing rift s. I’m really pleased with it, it’s like a modern day upgraded rift s, it has compromises, but like the rift s I can see me running this a good four years.

      @@KarlGosling that’s great news! You and I appear to have similar headshapes, so here’s a tip for the dpvr e4 headstrap padding. The padding on the back of the headstrap you can pull it off because it’s Velcro, re attach 2 cms lower down than how it comes out of the box and for me it became super comfortable. When I first put it on out of the box, it was not comfortable for me, but by simply lowering the back padded cushion by 2cms it cupped the back of my head perfectly and I find it more comfy than my now retired rift s.

So I will sell the 8KX even I like it and the FOV is even on small the biggest in PCVR-Gaming. The clarity of the Pico lenses are just superior and I've better performance or let's say overhead. They both run with solid 90 fps, mostly AMS2, and I like I can switch off my G9 with Virtual Desktop and run VR and Desktop with the headset. With the Pimax I have to put if off very often and you have to with AC and iRacing anyway.The Pico 4 is the best PCVR-headset if you have a 4080 and decent WLAN-router, at least under 1k. Just for a test, I've tried to run ACC on 1080p (max. settings) on a 28" 4K Monitor and it looked like a PS1 game. It was terrible. So I can't even imagine having the same resolution on 55" screens??? Whereas the VR runs quite nicely with the FOV Tangient Multiplier turned down quite a bit. (0.7/0.3) with 180% resolution. So, i noticed whenever i opened up Air Link, It was normal, it ran fine and smooth, but every once in a while my frames would drop. and it would be very laggy. it would end but it keeps happening and its making Air Link unusable and all the games i play unplayable. if you can, a fix for this would be appreciated. thank you

    So while you were playing beat saber and I could see your TV screen the visuals and the gameplay looked unbelievably good. I am extremely new to VR and I only own a pico 4 with no gaming PC. I know this is a very stupid thing to say but if I bought a pretty good gaming PC will it actually make what I see on my pico 4 lenses significantly better than when using standalone?? Because I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that the same device (pico 4) can produce such significantly better visuals when it is connected up to a computer. I mean obviously the computer will be extremely powerful but I can’t seem to get my head around the fact that the same device can pump out insanely better visuals??

    Some of my most played games are modded games on PCVR. Fallout 4 and Skyrim VR with the VR essentials mods for some reason don't work properly with virtual desktop. I have had issues with other games too. In my humble opinion a dedicated PCVR headset with lighthouse tracking is the way to go for PCVR. There are too many hiccups with getting games to run properly with virtual desktop. Plus you take a 30% performance hit when compressing the image and sending it over wifi. I'll stick with my index until the bigscreen beyond comes, my pico 4 is up for sale on marketplace.

    Last week I had the Pico 4 for about half an hour before I returned it.
    I was curious about the pancake lenses and whether the RGB passthrough would enable me to use my keyboard in VR to insult other drivers in the chat of open ACC lobbies. :-)
    Please note: Wireless PCVR is not an option for me. I do not have a WiFi6 router, and if I play PCVR, its's 99% sim racing, and my sessions would easily extend the battery capability of the Pico. So I'm happy with wired PCVR.
    Here's my baseline:
    * Meta Quest 2
    * 5800X3D
    * RTX 4080
    * Oculus Link Settings: 90Hz, 450mbit/s bandwith, 0.7/0.7 FOV tangient multiplier, render resolution cranked up to the max
    * ACC: 160% PD, DLSS enabled, quite high details
    With these settings I can run ACC easily at 90 FPS while the GPU does not draw more than 270W.
    In comes the Pico 4.
    I really loved the weight balance, the lenses and nice features as the motor driven IPD adjustability. Oh, and the magnets that hold the face gasket and optional prescription lenses are really, really good.
    But: Why did they cheap out on a 3.5mm headphones jack? The internal speakers are not an option for sim racing, neither on the Quest 2 nor on the Pico 4.
    At least my wireless headphones (Steelseries Arctis 7) just fit over the headstrap.
    The passthrough experience was quite underwhelming. Some CZcams reviews suggested a way better quality than I got in the end. It looked as if I was looking through clouds of steam, and I very quickly had to bury the hopes of a clear view of my keyboard.
    The connection via streaming assistant worked fine *after* I found a solution for the "Client software version outdated" message: You need to download and install the current version's apk manually, as the software won't update by itself.
    I'm tech-savvy, so this wasn't a big issue for me, but it might be for others. And after the real plug and play experience I was used to from my Quest 2, this felt like an unnecessary obstacle.
    But the visual quality was totally sub-par. Compression artefacts all over the place, even with the "ultra" setting.
    And on top of it all, my 4080 was struggling to keep up the framerate in SteamVR, no matter if I selected 72Hz or 90Hz mode. Framedrops and stutters all over the place.
    So I packed everything together and started the Amazon return process.
    That evening I quietly asked my Quest 2 "you mad at me?" and it said "nah, let's have fun!" and I decided I don't really need another set of VR goggles.
