im a dev on roblox for 6 years and yes roblox only gives a sht about games that actually makes money, so the more money you make the more roblox recognizes your game as "worthy" so you have to use the most dark and manipulative tactics to get people to buy sht
I distinctly remember playing "le bote", a naval combat game by the same dev that made tradelands.
You actually bought the passes in a separate linked game that was like a little museum with display cases that held miniatures of the ships you bought, it listed stats and the contents of the thing you bought and it was really really cool, it felt rewarding buying a yamato battleship or the carrier pack.
It made the process of what was in essence buying gamepass feel like a shopping center experience the way it styled itself.
Bee Swarm Simulator, despite being the best simulator made (and I will not entertain arguments against this) becomes super stale after obtaining your third spirit petal. There is just nothing fun to do anymore outside of getting a double-passive Star Amulet and an endgame tool like Dark Scythe. At most, you'll go to level 15 or level 18, then stop playing like I did. You can make a game with an expensive shop, it just needs to have good gameplay until the end.
I say this because the endgame becomes incredibly predatory. The requirements for boosting went from having a few items, to also maxing out 7 buffs that take 24 hours to fill up, and also you need to consume items that are already hard enough to get naturally, yet are so easily lost during a boost. You need to sacrifice great items for more honey (which oftentimes is not even necessary nowadays) and the planters take eons to grow without macroing.
If you want to even max out your hive you have to boost and farm 24/7, which is not a luxury many people have.
0:45 there is also an obby trend which I really don’t like. It’s these obbies where there’s just one simple twist and then the difficulty stays about the same, there’s a speedrun timer, a daily wheel and a lot of different things.
I don't even have a shop in my game. Either you collect 100 stars to access the tower or pay for the gamepass. Tower obby isn't ready yet anyway.

That deep space tycoon DLC example inspired me, so im prob gonna add something similar to that in my game.
It is interesting since these extra “islands” as he said or additional content reminds me of DLC on normal games and it is acceptable there but with the ads I agree
there is something innately evil about creating a gacha system in a game of majority children and implementing a purchasable currency for said gacha without being able to gain said currency without immense grind.
Roblox developers are either saints like vetex or actually mentally insane like the blade ball dev team

for my game i made a nice and cheap shop (the gamepasses are cheap not the shop) the gamepass max price is 99 robux and i feel like its very high

Edit: yes it can still be somewhat pay to win but the dev limits you on the best items so you actually have to start mostly fresh

i know a really good game with no gamepasses nor dev products and it has 17 active players and 75k visits but it's very polished and gets updates once every week which aren't small either
