Every one of those picks makes complete sense in the context of his music
I was thinking the same thing.
Hard to believe some of the most spiritually agonizing, angry, insane music ever made was created by such a calm, polite, humble dude.
It often is.
He has no anger left after making music.
I just added this...this man is like totally sane
Wiseblood.. mental stuff.
"Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your art." - Gustave Flaubert
Zappa, Lalo Schifrin, Univers Zero, Secret Chiefs 3, Godzilla OSTs, the RIO/ Frith gang...
Thirlwell did not disappoint here.
he's not going to listen to those records. he's gonna put them in a blender, add water, and drink them.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@JUDITH76222 yeah, he's just a bad ass artist!
Watch the Foetus NYC documentary. That’s about spot on.
God damn I hope so now
Throne of Agony is one of my all time favorite songs.
he was an Immaculate Consumptive with Lydia Lunch , Nick Cave and Marc Almond
... Thirlwell looks like Action Johnny.
Before he got the herpe.
Looks like Bill Nighy
still killing it with the hair
foetus has been my hero since I was 17....I'm 47 now...and he's still my hero
Ha We he's been my personal fav
since I was 15 and now I'm 37...
Bought Nail when it came out and was a major collector of his stuff upto about 1992 and am now getting into his later stuff. Got the first singles filed somewhere. Superb artist.
I didn't expect him to pick The Best of Godzilla 1984-1995. I could love him just for that.
This guy has incredible taste in music. Not surprising.
I was lucky enough to see Clint ruin live in London early 80's. Was an amazing show. Also chatted with him at Marc Almond's opening night at the Fridge in Brixton. A very original talent.
This is the smartest ad campaign I've ever encountered. It's addicting and really makes me want to shop.
Not too surprised to see how big into soundtracks he is. At least one song off of pretty much every Foetus album I've heard sounds like it belongs in a demented Disney movie
I met Jim at a Dead Cross show a few months ago. Lovely man! This was really enjoyable.
Zappa, Secret Chiefs 3, Univers Zero, Symphonic Music of Yes, Henry Cow, Circle, Lalo Schifrin, Florian Hecker...may be the best batch yet.
He is so much more talented than Trent Reznor and the Ministry gang, and yet they are miles more famous. Sigh.
I don't know about Ministry, but he's worked with Trent in the past and done remixes of some NIN tracks.
JG is a real human being.
the jaw on this fella
I remember walking into LISTEN Records in Renfield ST. Glasgow back in 1981 looking for Gong's "Angel's Egg" and coming out with You've Got Foetus On Your Breath! It was the cover that did it.
I bought a second copy of "Soak" by this man, having lost the first copy moving between countries. It arrived with "To Steve: Best, JGT" written on it. Lovely man.
i suddenly have a lot of new music to listen to
These "What's In My Bag" videos are so well done. The editing, all the clips from obscure films, they really are very well made, and I love watching them. Thanks Amoeba!
Tim Smith called this man an influence, you can't get better praise than that.
Foetus is worthy of laudation
That's interesting. I'm a huge Cardiacs fan, would not have guessed.
@@dorengarcia7925 Don't ask me where I read it, some obscure interview where Tim mentioned the music he loved (Gentle Giant, Zappa and JG Thirlwell) and when asked if he liked The Beatles he said: "The Beatles? Of course I like The Beatles, everybody likes The Beatles. I once met a man who said that he didn't like The Beatles but I think he was just showing off". I miss Tim Smith.
thanks for putting me up of Laddio Bolocko. what an amazing band!!
I started watching Venture Bros about a week ago. Only yesterday I looked up who did the soundtrack, and already JG Thirlwell is well on his way to becoming one of my favourite musicians.
I was living in LA back then, and would have been glad to follow Jim around, buying a copy of whatever he picked out.
this guy's thing was balls-out blasphemy and a sound more abrasive than sheet metal being fed through a circular saw before EITHER of those things were fashionable.
The Dadaists and Italian Futurists of the early 20th Century were pretty brazen with noise. Would be something to go back in time to hear that stuff live.
In 1995-96, he opened for Ministry and did a cover of I Am The Walrus which was nothing short of breathtaking...that Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel record is gnarly good, hey🧠🛸🛸👌💪
I saw him Live at the Satyricon in Portland Oregon in like 96/97 I believe, and I got on my friends shoulders during that song, and I ranked really hard on Jims nipple, and he did not flinch, I was really wasted ( and in hindsight would not have been surprised if he would have gotten pissed, considering how hard I did it)
THE LOVECHILD OF GINGER BAKER & DARYL HALL
Empire Goodness ha, ha, ha love it and you're so right. Top comment!
his sccent is virtually undetectable now.
Yeah, I couldn't smell anything while watching.
Yeah, I was surprised how much his accent has changed, while Cave still sounds Australian. I could pick out some Australian-coloured pronunciations, like 1:03 "guitaarist", 1:05 "guitaarr" (extended "aaah", rather than American "guitarr"), 1:13 "minimool".
I surely wasn't expecting Daisies OST here, keep on J.G
The only Real multi talented music genius to date. No one can hold the candle to J.G.Thirlwells endless creativity. His music is, like Krafterks work, not only music, but a serious piece of great art. His work is absolutely unique
Cough.. Ariel Pink.. Cough
In the beginning when they listed some of the names he has used over the years, I was a bit disappointed that they omitted Wiseblood.
I'm well aware that he's recorded with lots of people, everyone from Coil to the Melvins, and that Wiseblood consisted of JG and Roli Mosimann. But it was a full-on project that he even toured with. Maybe because there was not a lot of output by Wiseblood is one of the reasons it is often overlooked, but I quite enjoyed it when it came out and I got to see him perform twice as Wiseblood, in NYC and later in DC. Both shows were quite good and I hoped he would have continued with Wiseblood.
I agree, just listened to Prime Gonzola and Where Evil Dwells and damn, what an album Dirtdish is.
+1 Dirt Dish (and associated 12" and 45s') were epic for me
I found about him after I heard the cover of Where Evil Dwells by Fear Factory, both versions are insane. But I prefer Metal at all ways. Bought myself the first-press of Dirtdish years ago. Amazing stuff.
I printed Wiseblood shirts back in the day. 2 colors, easy & cool
Motorslug
Really great choices.
I will thank him forever for the Laddio Bolocko hint!
Oren is incredible. Such a lovely mix
Man, myth, legend
Circle! Excellent pick!
He had some really dope stuff. I love old soundtracks too!
Remember meeting him in Camden at Dingwalls... he just played with his laptop on stage. There was a powercut! LoL! He was playing support for Earthlings?...
Univers Zero Heatwave!! Yeahhh!! One of my faves!!
JG Thirwell is like a effing dirty word.... most of it you don't like or you don't wan't to like and most of it is crap and you insist to yourself its crap but it's not...and some you find is fucking awesome and itt sticks with you for most your life once you heard it
Literal legend!
Jim can't quite escape his Aussie accent
1:50 Didn't know Frank Sidebottom was in "Dr. Phibes Rises Again"!
Hahahahaha. Sorry I'm 2 years late. Thank yow.
wow sick picks
If I saw him in Sainsbury's I'd think he looked fairly interesting but I wouldn't know who he was and I wouldn't have suspected it would be him.
4:02 shows he's a man of impeccable taste and discernment :)
sounds incredibly worth checking out, thanks for the info on that!
JG es lo mejor de lo mejor
Legend, this man!
JG is a genius.
Jim exudes class.
UZ Heatwave and Secret Chiefs 3, Ensemble Ambrosius plays Zappa, Henry Cow ...some good stuff to decorate the inside of yer skull.
Lalo Schiffrin es argentino
audiophiles go to record stores
you know JG is a real one cuz he knows how to pronounce Biollante :D
J'adore!
This guy looks like a non Thrash version of Dave Mustang.
Has he lost a good deal of his Australian accident over the years?
that guitar processing sounds like Robert Fripps soundscapes
Laddio Bolocko& Tim Hecker.. In mine as well
Great jacket.
Anyone know which Godzilla movie the clip is from?
Lalo Schiffrin is from Argentina, J G
JG Thirwell likes Univers Zero.....that's a thumbs up from me.
and Secret Chiefs 3...good stuff.
This video got me into Universe Zero, although I felt it lacked something. And then JG Thirwell released Oscillospira wich was like perfect UZ and the some!
HOLY FUCK THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU AMOEBA !!!
This is easily the craziest bag I've seen and I think I've seen all of them hah
Mine: Major Parkinson, Cardiacs, Asmus Tietchens Asmus/Hematic Sunsets, John Cooper Clarke, Plaid, John Hassell, 16 Horsepower, Brainiac, City of the Asleep, Fred Eaglesmith, Hermeto Pascoal, Sevish, Stolen Babies, Ivo Papasov, Prent Rogers, Ultra Vivid Scene, Polyrock... and Me.
@Osthropek It's the Intro song for the Venture Brothers. No Vacancy, but it sounds almost exactly like the song Fighteous from the Steroid Maximus album Quilombo.
The "Lord Krishna Von Goloka" CD is by Sergius Golowin; it's a Krautrock classic championed by Julian Cope. Features all those Kosmiche guys including Klaus Schulze.
Jim Thirlwell is so good at industrial music Trent Reznor copied him lol
J.G.Thirlwell, the master of disaster....!
0:45 (I thought and saw nothing but a light)
Laddio Bolocko!!!
Genius.
Can someone find the song he composed for the archer dreamland end credit scene? also holy shit this video is old.
I just binged season 7 and Dreamland.. I literally finished yesterday..very serendipitous comment..lol..right on👍🤘
i met him yesterday at the brooklyn academy of music. a production of einstein on the beach was being put on. he was very quiet and polite. brb downloading all of these
YES marches on and on
A beautiful breaker of rules.
I'm not familiar with his music. Is it the first track on the background a song of his?
Yes, part of his Venture Bros scoring work. He's been self-releasing (mostly) his own music under various monikers since 1981, but probably best known as Foetus.
J.G. Thirlwell !
not many people will find this...the man is normal!!!!!!
the song at 1:50 is?
lizard stomping music ahahaha
Whatever JGT likes, I'll try it.
Andrew Eldritch would look like JG Foetus Thirwell unless he'll release smth new Sisters. The very same type of face .
Man, where is this store?! I have to go there!
All in San Fran and Los Angeles areas.
Finally a bag that doesn’t seem prescripted
He actually busted out the secret chiefs nice
He looks like Petula Clark singing "Downtown"
Dude... Zappa, Lalo, SC3, Fred Frith, Univers Zero... I'm adopted, were we separated at birth?
Circle is the best!
Este tipo está muy viajado
Interesting.
Look at Chris Cutler go at 6:43!
You guys should get Little Jack Lawrence in for WIMB
The Symphonic Music of Yes!? Jim! How could you??
Music goes beyond labels ;)
Hahaha!
Univers Zero sounds like old school Goblin.
nice henry cow pic
Ann T. Christ Children should be seen and not heard and you are most definitely a child.
Secret Chiefs 3 shoutout! 2=-D
