👌 Great use of the Warp tool, btw, it’s not rap, it’s warp. I would like to work it all the way in illustrator, so I will use your steps, new Illustrator 2022 must have tools to create it with out finishing off in Photoshop, maybe the new 3D tools introduced recently. 🙏👌

The instructions are clear and to the point. For my first attempt, the stripes did not place smoothly on the shape. They were thick and thin at some points. I guess it will be better once practiced. Overall, great techniques from creating the ribbon to finishing up the final image in photoshop!

Hey Lakshmi, everything basically lies in how you created your mesh/ how fluent your mesh is. If you are still getting irregular lines, you can use the mesh tool to add points to your shape to allow for more fluid build.
Also, you can substitute Line Segment Tool with the Rectangle Tool (+ fill - stroke) incase the lines begin to give you issues.

I have a problem, when I set the blending mode for the gradient to "multiply", it turns completely black. Can somebody help?

The symbol will wrap the line along/around the shape. :) Normal line won't.
What do you do to make the pattern follow the edges of the ribbon shape? When I follow the tutorial I see the square edges of the black lines going outside of the shape...

When I apply the strips on the S shape by sending the strips back i:e send to back and then selecting both shapes and then apply Envelop Distort --> Make with Top Object, the result is complete mess. The strips don't get aligned with the shape automatically they are placed randomly over the S. is there any solution of this??

The edges of my black lines are not flowing all the way to the end of the shape when curved. Anyone else have this problem? When I made the line symbol, I made sure it lined up all the way to the edge. It has a jagged edge, like the end of a line path. Any ideas?

rasterize the line before you make the line pattern....then the ends of the line will follow the shape_mesh
But if i rasterize, then i will get some weird blank space between the line. Just use shape instead of stroke line..;)

You can do this much easier with the blend tool.

instead of drawing lines, draw rectangles. It should work.

The struggle was legit! I thought it's a simple shape to create. But it wasn't as easy as it looked. I finally had to follow the video to create the shapes.
You can create shapes easily using shape builder tool.

if you could somehow import the flag texture as a symbol, it should theoretically work the exact same way once you "make with top object" it
those who are watching it in 2021 like me and didn't get the edges of enveloped lines match with curvature of shape after envelop distort, please expand the lines to shape. The thing with line as symbols is not working in higher versions probably.
