Beetje lang, maar wel lekker kneuterig.
the information in the video was all right but a lot of the filmed material was not done in the Netherlands. Street signs, bicycle paths and too many helmets.
Thank you so much for reacting to our video 😃!! So great you also find it interesting.
yeah i loved it, cant wait to see where your channel goes!
The aspect of almost everybody biking at least occasionally also has a very important effect on traffic conflicts: Drivers know, how interacting with a car feels "from the other side".
Not only the factor that the Americans in general don't have such an active life like the Dutch, also the food in America contributes to the obesity problem. One gram of sugar in a product, where America has 6 gram of sugar in the same product.
Bak, not as in back, but with an 'a' as in park.
What Americans call "bread" is more like brioche.
I know there are other channels with the same content as yours. But they don't have YOU! And it's your commentary I enjoy more than the video's itself :) Oh and Fiets is pronounced as beets with an F. Thumbs up!
😂😂😂 You are almost just as proud of the Netherlands as we are like Dutch! ❤️
not every employer rents bikes ... is he on crack ?
The childerensbike without peddels, is called a loopfiets. (Walkingbike) they learning to keep balans.
Hiking is the number one popular sport and leisure activity in Germany, but cycling is a close second.
Maybe it's also because of the landscapes.
In the Netherlands, cycling is for 95% local transport. "Everything is far apart" is what the American population gets fed to dismiss the creation of local cycling infra. 10 minutes at 70mph comes down to 20km/12 Miless tops. that does not take "several hours" as the average cyclingspeed is about 11mph. Your "far away" would still be considered "local" overhere. Nobody suggests that in the USA they need to implement cycling paths between Boston and New York just as hardly nobody in the Netherlands would drive from Amsterdam to Maastricht by bycicle... we can if we wish though.
Dutch Government: We created "Fiets naar je werk dag"
Dutch public: What is next? "close your eyes before going to sleep day"?
@9:20 We don't have these kinds of parks, i can tell you with 90% certainty that this is not in The Netherlands and just some random video. What might interest you though this short video about the bicycle exam children take in elementary school and why it's important. The exam is not extremely serious, meaning you can still bike when you fail, it's mainly done to make the children more aware: czcams.com/video/gQGgizVURFU/video.html
interesting, in Germany these tests are a bit earlier (aged around 10), together with an also earlier change from elementary to secondary school shortly after.
I've got 4 bikes ,7 mopets,a car and a motorbike for long rides 😁😃I hope you wil get to the Netherlands sometime in the future 😃 Always great content from you here😃
60 Mph is 96 Kmh and we got electric bikes that go up to 30 / 40 Kmh
Your pronunciation of "Bakfiets" is very good, but with a more Utrecht accent (stretching the 'a'').
The slogan, and where to put the right tone and emphasis, gets more clear when written as "Fiets(!) naar je werk"-dag.
But, the large distances between cities is a lame excuse as bikes are mainly used inside cities for daily shopping, socializing, or study. Most people cycle for half an hour and a max of 45 minutes to their job.
Love your enthusiasm ;-)
It's actually weird if you don't own and ride a bike..
No way I go by car to the beach.. I go with my (electric)bike..
Way faster than all the people stuck in the traffic jams and paying a lot to park their car.. if they are lucky enough to find one..
It's madness, people coming from everywhere when it's a hot day.. Lots of people from Germany too..
We bike for fun and relaxation a lot.
In Dutch names the emphasis mostly lies on the first syllable. So in Leeuwarden it is on Leeuw.
We Dutch call our country also Holland. Sometimes I call it the Netherlands or Nederland and other times I call it Holland. I think more people in the world know the Netherlands as Holland and maybe because I live in Noord-Holland I prefer to call the Netherlands Holland.
i see footish of other country's suposely from the Netherlands. Also its Leeuwarden not Leeuwerden how its spelt on the map
You have to understand that we in the Netherlands don't have those retarded zoning rules that the US have
started after WW2.
We are more like, "keep it simple" , in a new neighbourhood their will be a supermarket, school, snackbar/friture/pizzeria,
children can walk to school, you can buy daily fresh food on walking/biking distance.
When you see a bicycle parking garage for 5000 bikes, try to imagine if everybody would have come with a car.
Being born in Leeuwarden: no offense taken. It is on a surprising location on the map though
They even spelled it wrong XD It's LeeuwArden not LeeuwErden XD (I live in Leeuwarden and no offence taken, but Leeuwarden is a city not a town)
Yeah don't talk down on Leeuwarden Charlie! It's a provincial capital. Ever heard of Mata Hari? The famous dancer and double agent killed by the French during the first World War? She is from Leeuwarden. Just like the female ancestor of all the current European royal families. It's a city with a lot of history, and definitely has a more beautiful city centre compared to Rotterdam ;) even though it is maybe more than 5 times smaller 😅
i am dutch but i never heard about fiets naar je werk dag and the people you see at the video are not dutch because the are wearing helmets and real dutch d'not
but it's a nice video ...... LOL
Most of the footage is NOT from the Netherlands!!
I didn't notice lol
And a "fietsstraat" isn't even a legal category in the Netherlands, but just a very bike-oriented design of a 30 zone. The concept originates in Germany, where it is also closely related to the 30 zone. Belgium then copied the German regulation and created the nice traffic sign with the car behind the cyclist. The real Dutch invention here is the "auto te gast" ("cars as guests") line, which greatly sums up the concept: It's just a bike path, which still allows cars to reach destinations, which can only be accessed from there.
Charlie 1 miles is 1.6km.
So 60mils an hour is 96km an hour.
So when younhave 25.000km of biking paths that is. 15.625miles of biking paths.
Almere the youngest city of the Netherlands has the most bike lanes not shared with cars,so totaly free from cars.
Loopfiets a walkbyc
Funny that this video is about Dutch cycling culture and that quite a lot of images are used that are not in the Netherlands. Who can spot them?
I didn't notice it actually lol can you timestamp it?
I think all the Dutch can spot them haha,...It's Obvious that the "Working guys"with the Helmets on weren't Dutch and also that Family on the Bike thing,....The Dutch never advertise in that way, with everyone having the "Perfect"smile on their Faces,.....That's more like an American kind of approach.😁
Ok Charlie you asked for it.
2:24 what shall I say strange workers?
2:43 not our cycle path
2:50 riding on the footpath, helmet and sports bike
3:38 weird bike sign, helmet and sports bike again
3:45 too many sports bikes and helmets
3:52 Never seen so many yellow bicycle frames before
4:01 English written on the street
4:13 no Dutch license plate
4:19 this picture doesn't feel right. Yellow stripe in the middle??
5:11 same image as 3:45
8:15 really not a Dutch family. HELMETS!!!
8:21 plastic playground equipment in a public park??
8:26 If only we had a coastline like that
8:48 why so young on a tricycle.. we are not crazy
8:51 never seen this before. Our children just practice on the street and don't have to be taken to a park specifically for this
9:27 Something tells me there's something wrong with this picture... they're driving on the wrong side.
9:51 another sports bike with someone in normal clothes
10:31 No way!
10:45 so many plastic baskets! Might this be an advertisement for the watch?
11:24 sports bikes, helmets.
12:37 This way you don't rent a bike here... and teh plastic baskets again
12:42 really not here in the Netherlands.@@ItsCharlieVest
Thank you for the thorough response, your right, it's definitely alot of pics not from there
Don't forget the Fake Smiles @@betsytb694 and Nobody wears Helmets around here.😃😜
Loved this reaction video. You are good in Holland but the Netherlands 👍 People can't fool you. So easy 🤣
the information in this video is mostly correct, but almost every clip were biscilces are d
shown in the video is not in the the netherlands.
Yaay you're the best. Have a great day Clarlie!!
Awwww shucks lol thanks you too
If you wonder why more bikes then people: most people, when their old bike is getting a bit 'meh', they buy a good new bike, and keep the old one as reserve, just in case the new one has a flat tire or something. Or they have a sports-bike on the side. Or a bakfiets. Or electric.
About the stealing: we often joke thats better to have a really dirty cheap bike for everyday use, and have a bike-lock thats worth more then the bike. We lock the wheel with a wheel lock, and most also lock the bike to something sturdy like a lamp-post on the street with a thick chain and a serious lock. They can still be stolen if someone takes along a grinder and a generator in a truck, if you put out a 10.000 euro bike on the street: it will get stolen. So we place thim inside sheds. Mine is in my kitchen. My reserve is in the shed. Most stolen bikes are opportunity thefts: you forget to lock your bike? Gone. Its a decent bike and only has a wheel lock (so people can pick them up and take them home to grind off the wheel lock)? Gone.
I once had a pretty expensive bike, with wheel lock and chain around the front wheel & lamp post parked in the city. When I came back 2 hours later, only the front wheel was there, with the chain lock.
Thats also why we have bike insurance for theft. Problem is: its only for like 5 years, and it costs half as much as the bike: to get it insured against theft. Lollll.
I own 3 bikes, one old one to go to the station (or other places with a high chance it gets stolen), one electric one, and a race bike...
Exactly my Thoughts on what you said from 2.27 min. to 2.40 min,No offense!😉👍,...Maybe Leeuwarden was mentioned there because Friesland in the Past wanted to be independent....and "Fiets naar je Werk dag" means something like Taking your Bike to work.
I think most people feel that way honestly
Calling is Holland is like calling the USofA America. ;-)
I was born and raised in Eindhoven, I never use a bike, if I can't walk it I will use public transportation... But well, I'm not your average kind of guy...
But the great thing is you have the option of doing so safely and easily should you decide you want to cycle. Public transport is also very highly developed I saw when I was in the Netherlands, so lots of options :) I only wish we had the same amazing cycling infrastructure in my own country.
that is not true not everywhere do have the bikes priority even on bike lanes (fiets straat) Guess we need to give him a dutch trafic school book
that's called a balance bike
pronounce fiets like feets in your language
I got only 1 bike and it is broken LOL
it is named leeuwarden not leeuwerden
Another video about bikes..
Fietscross banen
now his ad... he better use it him self to get better educated about the netherlands maybe !!!!!!
Original video/channel uses AI generated content, AI collects images, AI does voice-over. Then all slapped together it creates a decent overall picture, but has many flaws if you know how things exactly are.
The principal of the video is ok, but half of the clips to sustain the comment are from other countries.
Also when he said it bugs him that it says Holland, above it also says Leeuwerden, but it is Leeuwarden my home town, and maybe its pinned because it was European Capital of Culture 2018
Oh I didn't know that
bike friendly trafic lights are through the whole country at almost every intersection .... see that is the crap when they never look further the bloody amsterdam they need to go through the whole country and get the facts right before they post shit ... really SMH!!!
The original video has very bad footage Charlie. Wouldn't be surprised if this was another AI generated video.
Whoa, danger watch out lol don't burn yourself on that LOL
Leeuwarden is not in Friesland. Friesland was build around Leeuwarden. According to True Lewadders, Leeuwarden is anti-Fries, don't even joke about it LOL......... Oh wait..... Lewadders are a joke... yes that's it... ""The Wardens of the Lion"" Leeuwarden is not Friesland though they are, yes that's it or wait... don't tell the Lewadders, the Friessians don't really care LOL
I had to try explain it, I lived in that weird City for about 9 years. Nobody really managed to explain it to me either, but at least I tried LOL
The Friesians are great ppl hard to understand for outsiders, but when they find out you're a ""Hollander"" they will not be able to continue to speak Friessian anymore, I have dared them, I can understand, not speak, not read nor write, understand Frissian (standard if there is one LOL there is non LOL!! Nor is there true standard Dutch LOL) for over 95% of the time and the rest is understand the context or just ask, but that makes em unable to keep talking Friessian LOL The problem is, there is no problem LOL
You must know the only Dutch that seem to really understand they are a part of the Netherlands, and the Netherlands is not Holland i.g are the Fiessians.
What are you?
I'm an Earthling haha, born in the Jordaan, Amsterdam, in the province of North Holland, the Netherlands, Europe, third rock from the sun ;)
Most Dutchies don't care or know about the Holland vs the Netherlands issue LOL
I wish you and your loved ones happy holidays :)
The only reason Dutch people ride bikes within the city is to save money. They are money wolves just like that.
And traffic jams.
time stamp 6:06 why I said that channel sucks and he pisses me off with his not fully check his facts and not looking further then his nose is long
there is no such thing as intrest free loans !!! I wont be subscribing to him
