Lawl Nova Assist Trophies Volume 0: The Novassist Trophy (April Fools 2024)

- The introduction of a new item in Lawl Nova: The Novassist Trophy! It's essentially the same as the Assist Trophy, but it summons characters that you can play as in the Roster! (Just not the ones currently battling). With this being an April Fools prank, I wanted to reveal this concept in a silly way by giving the Assist Trophies in Nova from Volumes 1-3 a little moment in the spotlight. They won't become playable, but here's three that "graduated" in different Lawls (and their creators gave me permission to use here).

"Normally I make these videos when I'm done with the planned characters, but I know how popular Assist Trophy videos are so I had to make them already! In this new volume, we'll be introduced to a series of assist trophies that are so poweful and useful that they'll make the ones from the previous volumes look like Goldeen!" - Hry

Considering a single attack can cancel his effect and that even if he manages to land it he can use it on his summoner... I think he is still pretty useless haha

Gotta say, the Fighters and Assist Trophies swapping roles reminds me of how Nin10doland suggested an idea for Smash Bros where you could play as the assists through some sort of mode, and they all had limited movesets compared to the actual playable fighters. I would love it if this idea was fleshed out and used in another platform fighter.

Also for that final reveal as soon as I saw Zelda I knew exactly who was getting revealed XD
this might actually top noba's classic mode for my absolute favourite of your april fools specials omg. such a genius concept for a prank, while watching along i was like "haha! what a fun concept, it's almost a shame that these aren't real."
...and then you made em real! much like zach and tetris, i love how this is in the format of an april fools special despite being canon, it's the perfect way to introduce this new concept!
and to top it off - look, someone was inevitably going to confirm arzette for their lawl, and i'm so glad it was you; giving that cd-i zelda is also in this lawl, nova is *the* perfect fit for her and she's easily the character im most excited for out of the current roster!!
Darn, I was really hoping for Fat Cat to become playable!
Jokes aside, this was a very clever idea for an April Fools video! The reveal at the end was a welcome surprise too!

Your April Fools videos are always a delight to see, but this one completely takes the cake for me. My favourite part about your April Fools videos its how creative they have gotten over the years, and this one is not only creative, it was also a nice way to introduce a really cool idea for a Lawl item. Really excited to see the other fighter's novassist versions, even if in Google forms doc.
And that reveal was the cherry on top, she's perfect for Lawl and also the perfect rival for CD-i Zelda.
I love this idea because it seems like something obvious enough someone would have done in Lawl, but the genius part comes from how nobody actually did it before. Even if it was a joke, seeing some of the assists in fighting stances actually hyped me, so I'm hoping for this video doing well enough for a Vol. 5 and some kind of Ascendant Slot. Anyways, the final reveal was so great, such a fitting inclusion in the roster.
Swapping out the Assist Trophies and Fighters is an idea you deserve to be proud of, because it’s awesome! Glad to see the item is canon too!

I'm glad I was able to finally find a second assist item ala the Pokeballs in Smash
the idea of an assist trophy that summons other characters on the roster is a really cool idea. i'm surprised no one else has thought of that tbh. also the reveal was pretty cool too. also i like how the description mentions how useless goldeen is i just find that hilarious. (also as soon as i saw the april fools spongebob silhouette i knew exactly what was coming next.)
Closest thing I could think of is the striker versions of the main cast in Fraymakers

Jokes aside, I think I have discussed it with a friend or two once about not completely deconfirming the AT characters, thus came up with a throwaway idea of fighter assist which is more or less just hypothesis... until you came along and made it a reality!
Despite their attacks being more or less the same as the character's own moveset, they have an unique spin to make them behavior more like NPCs.
From Spidey's web-swinging barrage to John's stupid ass "buff punch" attack that can easily backfire (but also gets little to no fanfare), I love them all.
Yet Kid Icarus, out of all characters, gets an unique thunder arrow, for whatever reason. Unless this means a KI revamp soon???👀 /j
In conclusion, I love it very, very much, and I can't wait to see the next volume of Novassist.
Honestly Nova's elaborate AF video is probably the one I find myself excited about every year, so here's to more to come.

The Thunder Arrow is actually one of his Smash Attacks, though I revamped how it looks because originally it looked way too ugly
(At 5 minutes and 42 seconds in) Oh wow, so that’s the true, secret winner of Novas totally official Empty Slot 5. That’s pretty neat.
For real though this was a terrific April Fools Special, Skap. Lawl Nova is easily one of the best spin offs when it comes to adding fun new ideas, items and mechanics, with the Novassist being another solid addition. It’s such a cool twist on both Assist Trophies in Smash, and Assists in fighters like Mahvel. Really do hope we can get another volume of these in the future (please tell me when you’re gonna do SA Bigfoots. Wanna be there to brainstorm ideas with you), as it's always so cool to see what creative concepts you can think up for everyone in Nova.
With pretty much every Assist Trophy getting an updated idle it also goes to show how some of these characters could genuinely work as their own fighters. Just me personally, Nosferatu, Bulk Bogan, the 60s villains, Willie and even Mr Kadabra if you got creative with him could be amazing to see get the graduation treatment. Though it’s completely fair and understandable if it's not in Nova.

Por otro lado, me parece bastante interesante el concepto del Trofeo Novasistente (sí, me tomé la libertad de hacerle traducción, intenten detenerme(?). A ver que movimientos le ponen al resto del roster.
This is actually a super cool concept, it reminds me of how Fraymakers also lets you use the playable characters as assists as well
Also the amount of effort you had to put in for all the idles is unreal a lot of them look so good too

At the end when I mentioned how some platform fighters have this mechanic, I was thinking about Fraymakers! (as well as the Jump games on the DS)
I got so excited but then realized it's already 4/1 elsewhere.

Edit: During the video, I was a bit disappointed that the assists mostly took from their movesets and not new material...until the reveal at the end, and it all made sense. I'm excited now.
1. Out of all the April Fools Lawl Nova videos I've seen, this one is my absolute favorite.
2. I actually like the idea of the whole "Novassist Effect" for this new item. Because it makes this particular Lawl stand out a bit more and I'm all in for it.
3. Looking forward to Arzette's moveset!

I knew this was gonna be an April fool's prank, but it was still a very neat concept. The fact that these are canon to lawl nova (as novassists) is even better. I'm also so excited that Arzette got revealed not long after her game was released, and that I finished the game before this reveal.
Yooooo this is sick! I also love the idea that you can summon Fighters and Assists and they do something different. Not to mention Arzette is hilarious so I am interested in seeing how she’ll be handled. Yeah don’t really have much to say other than peak.
2:34 NGL, you should've went with the version of IF from the same game for the April fools stand-in for Sega Hard Girls (and by the version from the same game, I mean IF has a different outfit from the two she wore in the main series games).

Despite this being a April Fools I do really like the Fighters becoming Assist Trophies idea and I’m glad that idea is canon. Similar to that Genesis Cannon item if the fighters aren’t present in battle they can appear in some shape or form, and this is a much better way to represent this. I do like this April fools joke video.

Jokes aside, the Nova assist trophy is such a cool and unique concept, being a great shout out to fighting games like Marvel vs Capcom and MUGEN. It'll be exciting seeing all of them in action. And while I knew this was some kind of Noba prank, the fighting stances for the assist characters were cool as well.
And of course, the character reveal. Arzette was someone I knew was going to join Lawl at some point, (and if not, I would have suggested her,), and who better than the Lawl that has the character that she's based on? Having seen her source, I expect great things for Arzette.

For some reason I can see playing as an assist character with a very limited moveset would be in a lawl challenge mode
It kinda reminds of a game I played where there was a level where you had to play as an assist character who only has like one attack/ or projectile and no jumps (I think)
