  • To celebrate Bookshop Day 2021, we asked authors what they love about bookshops and why they’ll be choosing bookshops on Saturday 9 October.
Authors and illustrators featured in the video: Alexandra Shulman; Ann Cleeves; Anna James; Annelise Gray; Carolyn Kirby; Chitra Soundar; Claire Nelson; Elizabeth Day; Elodie Harper; Emma John; Jasbinder Bilan; Jess French; Joanna Cannon; Kevin Tsang; Katie Tsang; Kiran Milwood Hargrave; Tom de Freston; Libby Page; M.G. Leonard; Michelle Dunne; Nicola Davies; Philip Reeve; Sarah McIntyre; Sammy Wright; Smriti Halls; Sophie Anderson; Tamsin Mori; Zoe Folbigg - thank you for supporting bookshops.
Bookshop Day is one-day celebration of all high street bookshops across the UK and Ireland, including independent bookshops, Blackwells, Waterstones and Foyles. The campaign aims to highlight the cultural importance of books and bookshops, and celebrate the people that bring the two together, our wonderful booksellers! Booksellers are what make our book-buying experiences so special - they are book experts, curators, community champions, bibliotherapists and matchmakers.
Bookshop Day happens annually in October and will next take place on Saturday 9 October 2021. Bookshop Day first launched in 2013 and is run by the Booksellers Association to encourage book lovers, like you, to shop at their local bookshop.
Every year, as part of the campaign, we create a Books Are My Bag Limited-Edition Bag. These bags are available to purchase exclusively from bookshops; another excellent reason to visit your local bookshop on Bookshop Day!
