- So, when we first arrived in Boracay, the sea was crystal clear. Blue waters, white sand, and then 2 days later... BAM! The whole beach turns green.
Now, we know this is an algal bloom, but we didn't know it was happening and wow, its so green and there's so much of it!

A healthy beach has algae, especially when the the temperature of the water is right. This is the tropics after all.
that's not dirt, its algae, its natural, even beaches in Mexico has that
of course most ocean have that in minimum. Not at this level and amount. Algae is the result of an excess nutrients coming from waste water, flood water etc. If they are not treated before releasing back into the ocean, those nutrients will turn into algae.
It's a natural phenomenon it happens yearly in boracay during the first quarter of summer season. I think the algae helps the sand gets whiter. It is non-toxic. after the algae season the sand and the water is way better and stunning. 🥰
forever excuse Boracay omg every time this is happening this explanation is coming up
are you from Boracay or Aklan local knows better. im Local FyI
@@khianu7889if you are local in boracay could you convince your LGU's to trim down the sky rocketing foods prices starting from street foods to the carenderias and restaurants?
One example of price gaps, around your neighboring provinces, City or Barangays.. the cost of bananacue is P10 - in Boracay it worth P50 sold by just roaming street vendors?..how much grams of gold your people in boracay put in foods they sell? the reason of being a highly tourist's area is not acceptable!
@@marikitliwayway6703what's your explanation then?
@@marikitliwayway6703I feel sorry for you...u don't know this kind of phenomenon. You should ask locals first before spitting words .
Those are algae's. The algal bloom in the shoreline in whitebeach happens on the summear hottest peak. It has been it for years. Algal bloom is at its fullest in March until April.
If you visit from October until February, the Algaes are non existent in white beach.
Bro that’s not toxic..it appears always on the start of summer!!!March…it’s not harmful..when it dried the sand absorb it and automatic disappears
That's algae it exist since Boracay was still under develop. It help the sand more whiter. It is safe to swim . Go to station 1 it had few algae

Algae season in Bora .that's the reason why the sand in Bora is so soft and cold even in midday.
it's like spring break in florida and mexico. lots of people especially the days leading to holy week and after. if crowds not for you, visit during the lean season
True. I've seen many other Boracay vlogs where there weren't too many people. It depends on the season.
That is algae and the phenomenon is called algal bloom. The algae in boracay is safe and non-toxic and phenomenon happens during the hot (summer season) when the water is relatively calm and the algae can freed from the concentrated nutrients near the shores. going december the phenomenon is not present since the water is more turbulent which disperses the nutrients and there is less sunlight thereby hindering algae growth.
From a marine biology standpoint, algae only grows on nutrient rich water which comes from inland water seepage (possibly wastewater) during the low tide. That is why it is near the coast line.
Also, it has been published by the Philippine journal of science (by DOST) that the algae does not contribute to the quantity or quality of sand (it does not turn to sand). Boracay white sand comes from corals, pure quartz and dead coral polyps (gives off the white color).
This happens worldwide especially around beaches near human settlements. Boracay is experiencing a tourism boom. i personally have seen and experienced this in boracay but i am not a local and I’m in the engineering and sanitation field. So my explanation is a technical one and not biased.
Though not a fan, i commend Former president Duterte in closing Boracay for 6 months since the island has been neglected for profit from tourism. More research and papers have been published since then. I could tell you but you can google it to know more.
Natural phenomenon. Algae Bloom from February to May. And if the sun is really and and very hot, the more algae there is. Even during the pandemic when Boracay was closed, there is is still algae. June to January there is no algae in the beach. 😊
i've been to Boracay several times since the early 2000s but i have to say 17:30 this is one of the nicer/professional tour sales people on the beach... Very friendly and willing to answer all your questions... Hope you continue to enjoy and visit other places besides the major tourist hubs.
its normal starting march to may when the sea is calm and the sun is intense perfect environment for algae to grow
Meron pa kaya po sa 3rd week ng May yang lumot?
THAT IS FOOD OF FISH
Those are algae that surfaces during summer time. Due to warm weather caused by the ocean.
Bro that's natural on beaches don't be dumb becareful of your throwing words be nice mate!
*Aside from the algae.* As much as I am happy so many foreigners are enjoying the Philippines, it's making me realize now that the significant boost of tourism in the last 5-6 years will now impact the natural beauty and the hidden gems that the Philippines once had across the country. It was exciting to see everyone coming to enjoy it but seeing all those tourists and all the boats and line ups in all the islands across the country, they are now becoming overwhelming and commercialized sometimes it doesnt feel like Philippines anymore.
The Philippines' economy is not the greatest and tourism definitely helps put food on the table for some of the local people but it does come with a price. I wish there would be a perfect balance 😕
Ben ik mee eens, zo was bali en sommige plekken in Indonesie ook zo, door de steeds massale komst van toeristen ging het veranderen, en te commercieel
The algae are soft like cotton. You can still swim and enjoy ❤️
Awesome Video Guys Thanks for Sharing 💪👍👍👍👍👌✌️🙏

Sea urchins are one of most expensive when bought in US fine dining restaurants. And Also in Japan its expensive.

Its algae season in boracay from march to may.. its a natural occurence so if you want to visit boracay the perfect month would be nov- feb if you dont want to see algae.. please do your homework first before visiting places..
I love Boracay with or without algae . It’s a natural phenomena.
it's a natural phenomenon. way of nature's cleaning itself. those are ocean grass. you cannot control that. unless 24 hours people will sweep that away like idiot or crazy. let that to dry and all goes ashore then that will be easy to clean. Seaweed that we eat are much like the same when they are slimey. when process it is edible and we love sushi exterior lining.

its not man made, the middle of boracay used to have wetlands and swamps but most of them were bought by resorts. check out the boracay wetland conservation
Mooie strand, maar die betonnen hotels of appartementen maken het niet zo mooi
Try to ask the local people why the sea is like that
It’s Holy Week in the Philippines..so all touristic spots is probably packed with the holidays!✌🏼🇫🇷
it's normal and natural sir. every summer in the Philippines. don't e afraid sir.

happens every year man algae that's what makes the sand white
Our research suggests that the colour of the sand is a result of old coral, not algae! But still, it's a natural occurrence.
it's mother nature coz the sea water has calm down and this is yearly so no worry nothing happen
just came back from 10 days in Boracay ..water is very clean just a bit of algae but not a big deal , everything is perfect there ; food, people ,weather, nightlife( beach parties) ..its pure PARADISE
TRY TO ASK THE TOUR GUID ITS A NORMAL SPECIALLY SUMMER THE ALGAE SEASON HAIST
That's a natural phenomenon In Boracay and other beaches...algae is harmless and still can swim around...they will disappear around June onwards where rainy season starts.
Try checking the neighboring carabao island ..less touristy and beautiful ✌🏼🇫🇷
The price are insane even in makati that sandwhich do not cost that much - 200 seriously - i can buy inasal and still got change - it signs of polution it has been closed down before for rehab but of course it hurts the locals therefore this time they just power through it
Algae in Boracay are natural and non-toxic - task force ...
“The presence of the algae is simply a natural phenomenon that occurs yearly during the dry season or summer period in different areas of Boracay. This is non-toxic and should not be a cause for concern,” Despi said in an official statement issued by BIARMG last Wednesday.
bcoz it summer its normal and soon it will more whiter than even before anyway than greenary stuff is helping our nature that is nature like leaves
that lake is not man made it's actually a natural lake long before it was developed. when I was young that lake has plenty of fish and some huts around it and it's like a vegetation around the lake. not anymore I'm afraid.
Go to Puka beach...no algal bloom there.
Thanks for letting us know :)
wrong time of the year to visit the Island. Best time to visit is November to February. then March to May is when the algea appears due to the weather is very hot. June to October is very windy.
Thankyou!! We'll know for next time :)
And be careful on walking around, some people spit on the ground and you don’t wanna step on one of them.
19:18 Hi Dan & Beth. Video of Boracay is great. BTW, Halo-Halo is pronounced like “Hah-Low - Hah-Low”. Looking forward to your next adventure.
I will pronounce halo halo like that from now on!🤣
Thanks so much :) :)
Naturally green algae occurs during summer.
It's algae. It's natural. If you want to avoid it, don't go during Philippine summer.
That beach needs to be close down for a while so Local Government Unit can proceed the clean up
Those algae are delicious. Not joking!
I don’t eat very much at the restaurant out there I cook myself buy food from Robinson then cook at home because I’m not comfortable of eating the food from the restaurant out there for some reason.
Panahon ngayon ng lumot kahit saan lugar sa talbukan ng dagat may lumot dito nga sa amin sa batangas pag panahon ng lumot yung karagatan nagkukulay green
boracay need to invest on some kind of machine to clean up that seaweed or algae because some first timer visitor will be disappointed.
They bought that machine two years backbut lack of maintenance and spare parts make it idle
They should clean it somehow it os not an excuse of letting this thing happens
.
are you not familiar to algae ,,,,it's part of the ocean and is happen when the summer will start in the philllippines.,,,,dont worry is not harm ful to human just ignore it....just enjoy the sun ,food and ocean....take care guys
You should go instead to another beach in boracay called Puka Beach
"we've heard its very touristy" - tourist in the Philippines
And we were correct :)
That's normal even before Boracay became a tourist spot, it's seasonal it happens during Summer March - May.
No it’s not. Never experienced that in Boracay when I was a kid back in the 80s.
Respect and enjoy not disgusting you said
We know its natural :) Just because it's natural doesn't mean its not nice... I don't like swimming in algae anywhere, it's unpleasant.

based on the locals on Boracay, the Algae season is between January to May, and around June the Algaes are all gone and turned into white sand.

Was it like that 30 years ago?
We've heard mixed things. Some people say was, some say it wasn't!

Yeah we got our timing very wrong :( but at least now we can potentially let other tourists know that March is full of algae before they visit, which will help them choose a better time.
March to end of may is algae season in Boracay
naturally disgusting is what it is
Click bait channel.. will not support 👎
Glad you liked the video :)
Then don’t go to Boracay anymore. Go to European beaches nearer.
Click bait channel will not support 👎
Yes, the title and thumbnail is quite clickbaity. But in the video, they said Boracay is "one of the best beaches they've been to with the whitest sand." - 15:10.
It’s not click bait at all. We’re just showing the reality. If you don’t like the truth then that’s on you 🙏🏼
@@dunneytravels With all due respect, it's not that we don't like the truth. What we're hurt by is why focus on that aspect alone esp. in your title and thumbnail. The algae is a seasonal thing. There are times when there aren't any or very little algae. Please understand our side too. We love supporting vloggers, but we just want them to be fair in presenting the negatives and positives of our country, esp. our world famous tourist spots. Boracay would not be Condé Nast Readers Choice Best Island in Asia for 2022 and be included in TIME Magazine's 'World's Greatest Places of 2022' if it was that "EW!" like in your title.
Anyway, hope you had more positive experiences in PH after Boracay. God bless.
@@dunneytravelsyes, the reality of your ignorance
@@moondustgirl2132 We were very fair. If you actually watched the video then you would see how many times we said we love Boracay, we do our best to show the best sides of each place we go to. However, we are not prepared to hide the reality of a place. Many people visit Boracay for its crystal clear waters and white beaches, but that is ruined if the sea is full of algae, which we highlighted in the video. Other tourists have the right to know when is and when is not a good time to visit. All our video did was highlight that it's probably not best to visit in March if you want a nice relaxing beach holiday. There's nothing wrong with that and locals should appreciate the honesty.
And yes, swimming in a beach full of algae is EW, whether it's natural or not, it's still NOT pleasant. It's just an opinion. I can't imagine any tourists would enjoy swimming in algae...
We have been more than fair showing the positives of travelling the Philippines as a whole. Every video we say incredibly positive things, so I would suggest to any people crying over this video to watch the rest of our videos and realise that we're actually doing Philippines tourism a favour by consistently showing the good sides of the country. :)

Green slime
That algae is from over development of the island and has not not enough water waste treatment...Boracay is the most beautiful beach I have ever been and it was ruined by over development ! This has never happened in 80's and 90's...
I was there po in the 90s and the algae was already there. It's a natural phenomenon in Boracay and some locals there say it turns into white powder when it dries up. That's why the sand there is very powdery while in other sections of Boracay where there's no algae, the sand is coarse.
You obviously dont know anything and lying. I was there since 80s and 90s. The powdery white sand are crush corals not algae. Algae grows when theres too much excess of nutrients from waste water. The island is destroyed by over development. Theres no proper waste treatment in Boracay.
@@moondustgirl2132 You are obviously lying and dont know what you are talking about. Algae is the result of an excess nutrients coming from waste water, flood water etc. If they are not treated before releasing back into the ocean, those nutrients will turn into algae. Also powdery white sands of Boracay is due to crush corals, not algae when it dries up. Stop your delusion, I was there even late 80's. The algae happen but its so minimal that you barely notice that time. Now, due to over development and increase population of the island, its ruined and those excess algae IS the ultimate symptom of it ! Its a cess pool !
@@moondustgirl2132 Wrong. Algae is brought by excess nutrients from waste water, flood street water etc..Powdery white sands came from crushed corals, not dried up algae. Stop lying. I was there since 80's and 90's so mas matanda ako sa iyo. Boracay has been ruined by over development and over capacity !
@@quesee08 You have no right po to accuse me of lying. Wag po kayong ganyan. First of all, i did not say it came from me. What i said is that it came from locals there. I just read it from another commenter who said he grew up in Boracay. 2nd, nakapunta na ko sa Boracay in the 90s. Why would you accuse me of lying about that? Totoo naman yun and that even then, meron na pong algae. So please stop accusing people of lying kung wala naman kayong proof. Hay, grabe talaga sa internet.
P. S. And yes po, i know that white sand is from crushed corals. And sinasabi po nung local is that the algae adds to the powdery quality. Di naman nya sinasabing puro algae un.
Right?? You pay environmental fee and those sea moss/ajgae are getting worse by the year.
Yeah those environmental fees are definitely just going in someone's pocket! At least they could be honest and just call it a glorified tourist tax lol
