  • So, when we first arrived in Boracay, the sea was crystal clear. Blue waters, white sand, and then 2 days later... BAM! The whole beach turns green.
    Now, we know this is an algal bloom, but we didn't know it was happening and wow, its so green and there's so much of it!

    A healthy beach has algae, especially when the the temperature of the water is right. This is the tropics after all.

    that's not dirt, its algae, its natural, even beaches in Mexico has that

      of course most ocean have that in minimum. Not at this level and amount. Algae is the result of an excess nutrients coming from waste water, flood water etc. If they are not treated before releasing back into the ocean, those nutrients will turn into algae.

    It's a natural phenomenon it happens yearly in boracay during the first quarter of summer season. I think the algae helps the sand gets whiter. It is non-toxic. after the algae season the sand and the water is way better and stunning. 🥰

      @@khianu7889if you are local in boracay could you convince your LGU's to trim down the sky rocketing foods prices starting from street foods to the carenderias and restaurants?
      One example of price gaps, around your neighboring provinces, City or Barangays.. the cost of bananacue is P10 - in Boracay it worth P50 sold by just roaming street vendors?..how much grams of gold your people in boracay put in foods they sell? the reason of being a highly tourist's area is not acceptable!

    Those are algae's. The algal bloom in the shoreline in whitebeach happens on the summear hottest peak. It has been it for years. Algal bloom is at its fullest in March until April.
    If you visit from October until February, the Algaes are non existent in white beach.

    funny seeing how other CZcamsrs see and film their time in the country. For anyone thinking of moving to the PH to live full time, please come for a few months
    first to try it out. It can be great or a disaster if you do not have the patience to put up with the delay in getting around or taking a number at a bank and "waiting" for
    service. We have a large home in Vistamar Resort in Lapu-Lapu and just arrived back in the U.S. after a 4 month stay. Our maid face times every other day so we can

    That is algae and the phenomenon is called algal bloom. The algae in boracay is safe and non-toxic and phenomenon happens during the hot (summer season) when the water is relatively calm and the algae can freed from the concentrated nutrients near the shores. going december the phenomenon is not present since the water is more turbulent which disperses the nutrients and there is less sunlight thereby hindering algae growth.
    From a marine biology standpoint, algae only grows on nutrient rich water which comes from inland water seepage (possibly wastewater) during the low tide. That is why it is near the coast line.
    Also, it has been published by the Philippine journal of science (by DOST) that the algae does not contribute to the quantity or quality of sand (it does not turn to sand). Boracay white sand comes from corals, pure quartz and dead coral polyps (gives off the white color).
    This happens worldwide especially around beaches near human settlements. Boracay is experiencing a tourism boom. i personally have seen and experienced this in boracay but i am not a local and I’m in the engineering and sanitation field. So my explanation is a technical one and not biased.
    Though not a fan, i commend Former president Duterte in closing Boracay for 6 months since the island has been neglected for profit from tourism. More research and papers have been published since then. I could tell you but you can google it to know more.

    *Aside from the algae.* As much as I am happy so many foreigners are enjoying the Philippines, it's making me realize now that the significant boost of tourism in the last 5-6 years will now impact the natural beauty and the hidden gems that the Philippines once had across the country. It was exciting to see everyone coming to enjoy it but seeing all those tourists and all the boats and line ups in all the islands across the country, they are now becoming overwhelming and commercialized sometimes it doesnt feel like Philippines anymore.
    The Philippines' economy is not the greatest and tourism definitely helps put food on the table for some of the local people but it does come with a price. I wish there would be a perfect balance 😕

      @@dunneytravels With all due respect, it's not that we don't like the truth. What we're hurt by is why focus on that aspect alone esp. in your title and thumbnail. The algae is a seasonal thing. There are times when there aren't any or very little algae. Please understand our side too. We love supporting vloggers, but we just want them to be fair in presenting the negatives and positives of our country, esp. our world famous tourist spots. Boracay would not be Condé Nast Readers Choice Best Island in Asia for 2022 and be included in TIME Magazine's 'World's Greatest Places of 2022' if it was that "EW!" like in your title.
      Anyway, hope you had more positive experiences in PH after Boracay. God bless.

      @@moondustgirl2132 We were very fair. If you actually watched the video then you would see how many times we said we love Boracay, we do our best to show the best sides of each place we go to. However, we are not prepared to hide the reality of a place. Many people visit Boracay for its crystal clear waters and white beaches, but that is ruined if the sea is full of algae, which we highlighted in the video. Other tourists have the right to know when is and when is not a good time to visit. All our video did was highlight that it's probably not best to visit in March if you want a nice relaxing beach holiday. There's nothing wrong with that and locals should appreciate the honesty.
      And yes, swimming in a beach full of algae is EW, whether it's natural or not, it's still NOT pleasant. It's just an opinion. I can't imagine any tourists would enjoy swimming in algae...
      We have been more than fair showing the positives of travelling the Philippines as a whole. Every video we say incredibly positive things, so I would suggest to any people crying over this video to watch the rest of our videos and realise that we're actually doing Philippines tourism a favour by consistently showing the good sides of the country. :)

    That algae is from over development of the island and has not not enough water waste treatment...Boracay is the most beautiful beach I have ever been and it was ruined by over development ! This has never happened in 80's and 90's...

    • @moondustgirl2132
      @moondustgirl2132 Před 2 měsíci +2

      I was there po in the 90s and the algae was already there. It's a natural phenomenon in Boracay and some locals there say it turns into white powder when it dries up. That's why the sand there is very powdery while in other sections of Boracay where there's no algae, the sand is coarse.

    • @quesee08
      @quesee08 Před 2 měsíci

      You obviously dont know anything and lying. I was there since 80s and 90s. The powdery white sand are crush corals not algae. Algae grows when theres too much excess of nutrients from waste water. The island is destroyed by over development. Theres no proper waste treatment in Boracay.

    • @quesee08

      @@moondustgirl2132 You are obviously lying and dont know what you are talking about. Algae is the result of an excess nutrients coming from waste water, flood water etc. If they are not treated before releasing back into the ocean, those nutrients will turn into algae. Also powdery white sands of Boracay is due to crush corals, not algae when it dries up. Stop your delusion, I was there even late 80's. The algae happen but its so minimal that you barely notice that time. Now, due to over development and increase population of the island, its ruined and those excess algae IS the ultimate symptom of it ! Its a cess pool !

      @@quesee08 You have no right po to accuse me of lying. Wag po kayong ganyan. First of all, i did not say it came from me. What i said is that it came from locals there. I just read it from another commenter who said he grew up in Boracay. 2nd, nakapunta na ko sa Boracay in the 90s. Why would you accuse me of lying about that? Totoo naman yun and that even then, meron na pong algae. So please stop accusing people of lying kung wala naman kayong proof. Hay, grabe talaga sa internet.
      P. S. And yes po, i know that white sand is from crushed corals. And sinasabi po nung local is that the algae adds to the powdery quality. Di naman nya sinasabing puro algae un.
