I bought this kind of stand for $20 for my 55" TV a year ago from Amazon. Before I even used them on the TV, I snapped these on the LRS. I was like why would I spend $250 to but risers for the LRS. Glad you did the same. And you know what made the Maggie's sound even better? I moved them to a different room. The bass became far more satisfying!

Ohh yah it's so much cheaper and the result is the same. As far as low end goes, I've had even the Tympani (on my channel too ) 6x4ft wide planars.
To me they never produced good low end , I crossed them over always (any Maggie) at around 80hz (actively so nothing gets fed under 80 to the planars) my subs suffice to say easily outdo what planars can put out in terms of low end.
I did go back to my kappas as I do prefer them over what the LRS does. But I still have the LRS in storage currently.

@@MichelLinschoten The Maggies don't produce quantity bass. But it does produce quality. The bass is fast and crisp. That's where the new room comes it. It boosts the bass a bit but it never loses the speed. I have a Rel that can keep up but it is still not 100% the same pace.

    • @MichelLinschoten

@@hawkins55 I ran with 4 subs 2 18 inch driven by 2.4kw of class d out of phase with the front subs any big planar will mix a lot better with subs than the lrs does.
The lrs sounds lot different from any other Maggie I've had (mgIIIa, mg2.5q, mgII,mgI,mmgi, Tympani I) trick is to actively cross over don't let the panels play "full range) you get really lot of gain there too.
It's the reason I went back to my kappas it doesn't require my big subs to do what they do. However I want to use my woofers (I decommissioned the 18 inch subs as they were way to big physically)..
I want to try and make an open baffle for them. That should be a very interesting try, also great choice on rel I used to have their older subs (quake and stadium) fantastic gear.

Use to be a welder in a job shop. Those magnestands or feet have about 30 bucks in material around a man hour in cutting drilling welding and paint. At 125 bucks there would be a good profit. 300 is just greed.
I had the direct opposite result with the TV stands. I have different stands. It's either straight up or tilted back too far. There's 3 adjustment holes. If you cut away the tab between the 2 holes closest to the speaker gives you the adjustment you need. Just getting the LRS+'s off the ground was an improvement. After the mod and tilting them back half the width of a hole it was not a subtle improvement. The soundstage expanded even more and the instrument placement within the sound stage also improved which lead to a bettering of the overall sound. The room you have very much resembles my listening area.
It all comes down to personal taste and what the individual prefers. I prefer the tilt and it's close to the factory tilt. The factory did it for a reason and the aftermarket stands have the same tilt. Don't see the need to muck about with door stops

    Good idea.
I'm sure there are even sturdier tv stands too.
I found a pair of older Maggie T feet on eBay. The holes matched the LRS 😊
    Then I built oak frames.
MG1 side rails, 1x8 bottom and 1x4 top with 1x2 top caps.
Various oak trim pieces to give a furniture finish.
    They now stand 60in tall.
    (See thumbnail)
Running 2.2 with REL powered subs.
Just what I've always wanted for sound and visually.
    Thay also pass the WAF😁
    I listen every morning

      Nothing so radical.
The standard LRS just bolt into my frames at the stand mounts. Foam strips recessed into the frame rails hold the panels in place with friction.

I may add tapered oak baffle wings on the bass sides with brass piano hinges this winter....

With the cheapos I used you could adjust them under and beyond 4 inches.
It's actually the only magic to it, setting them 90 degrees and few inches of the floor. I found 250 for a set of feet way to much considering the speaker was 600.
I no longer have Maggies, had many of them but they always packed dynamic range for me. But agreed , that stands makes a difference they just ask to much for them imho

Thank you for the video! I went to Amazon and found these, Rfiver Universal Table Top TV Stand Base... They were on sale, $19.99 with an additional 6% off if ordering two or more sets. Talk about savings! I do not foresee having to purchase any high dollar feet for my LRS+. I also ordered the GR Research LRS+ upgrade kit, to remove all of those "Cheesy" parts in the business section. The cost on that was around $315 shipped. Sounds like a deal to me, just the savings alone with these legs or feet you discovered paid for this GR Research upgrade kit!

I just don't like surround sound for music at all. My setup is very capable to play music voicing smack in the middle and do what it supposed to do.
I might make a video on that one day.
I used pretty much every service out there Amazon hd if I am really in the mood of ultra quality listening. And Spotify for pure convenience.
I have fooled plenty at my home with just Bluetooth ldac (990kbps bit depth) it has more than enough to please ears with music.
Spotify is hands down the best well integrated app on the market to me. Amazon hd does have a notch up on quality for me as most definitely itunes has too.
Just not an apple fan at all , they are far behind app wise, just as amazing hd is and tidal and such .
I do agree that Spotify needs to stop dicking around and start lossless what not already !

I'm hesitating between the Audio Physic Step 35 or the Magnepan LRS+, I have a relatively small space and I want a speaker with a very good 3D image. I mainly listen to classical music. What do you think about this dilemma?

    • @MichelLinschoten
      @MichelLinschoten Před 11 měsíci +1

Subjectively, so take this at absolutely face value. Magnepans are really fantastic at the 3d imaging you desire. However, to me there are to many caveats. Low sensitivity approx 84db, and to me they do lack lower end dynamics. I know with the magnepan purist that doesn't translate well my opinion on that.
But I'd probably go for the audio physic step 35. You might still enjoy having a sub with them, but cones are undeniably better at dynamics than planars.
Just my 5 cent my friend.
Keep me posted if you can very curious to what your choice will be.

What you showed me was that these stands are not stable ~ By you shaking them they seemed to move from side to side ~ Ok so my question to you Michel is wouldn't these stands cause a vibration that would alter the sound of these speakers ~ I'm not putting these stands down but I guess you get what you pay for ~

    • @MichelLinschoten
      @MichelLinschoten Před 11 měsíci +3

Side to side movement all you need is a cross bar and they are just as sturdy as any stand you can think of.
They most definitely do not have the mass that magnestands have. As far as translation of resonances.
In my case (and I know for some purists that's not so) magnepans no matter of what size, had them from small up to Tympani's I never fed them under 80 Hz anything.
The low end of Maggie's never was interesting for me to remotely consider running them *full range"
So I have had 0 issues with it, I can imagine when you push the panels to really do some low end. It might but again i doubt it, play your Maggie's really loud.
Put your hand on the frame, it really doesn't do much. It's not a cone system, that most definitely has to deal with those issues to a much larger extend. Than maggies or esl...
Also I have to add , there are tons of different stands you can go for, this is just one of many you can look for. So you're most definitely not bounded by what you see here.
It's purely to show people, try something out on the cheap first. Before you decide to really invent , the biggest sonic difference is not just the height difference, it's also the ability to have the speakers perfectly straight.
That makes a huge difference (in my ears)
Just to be more elaborate about it ..
